Many of us don’t pay enough attention to our dreams and are missing out on a wealth of untapped intuitive wisdom, creativity and insight that can heal and transform our waking lives.

Dreams offer an instant insight into your state of mind. Through them you can learn about yourself, your aspirations and desires. By recalling them you gain increased self-knowledge which is the beginning of all wisdom. They can also reveal hidden emotions and undercurrents in your life, and learning to recall and understand them can help you express face these aspects of yourself. Given the strong correlation between dreams and heightened creativity and intuition, as well as mental and emotional wellbeing, dream recall is good for your holistic health.

Understanding Your Dreams

Dreams speak to you in the language of symbols. You need to translate the meaning of the symbols and, in most cases, the symbols can only be translated and interpreted personally. For example, if a dog appears in your dream, this typically suggests love or companionship, but if you are afraid of dogs it will have the opposite association. That’s why dream interpretation dictionaries aren’t always that helpful. They give the generic or most common meaning but obviously can’t give the personal meaning for you.

The best dream interpretation dictionary for you is the one you write. Only you know what associations certain symbols have for you. Once you understand that personal interpretation is key, here are some simple but effective steps you can use to understand the intuitive messages your dreaming mind is trying to send you.

INTERPRETING YOUR DREAMS

Write down your dream…

Write it down as best you can and don’t even try to make it logical as it rarely will be. Dreams aren’t direct, linear or logical; they speak to you in symbols. As you write down what you recall, be sure to do so in the present tense as this helps you re-enter the dream world as if it was happening. Writing down your dream also helps you see it from an outside perspective and makes it easier for you to pick up on connections with your daily life.
