NO BETTER FRIEND THAN A SISTER #WEAREINTHISTOGETHER
Tracey White Kirouac shared these beautiful photos of her 89-year-old Mother Eileen, socializing with her best friend Wynne, her 91-year-old sister. Both sisters lived through World War 2 together while living in Manchester, England. Today, they are experiencing the extraordinary changes with the COVID-19 pandemic. They speak to each other daily by phone, even though they live only two townhouses away from each other. They take turns cooking for each other and leave the prepared food and magazines at the front door. They are currently social distancing from each other, waving and blowing kisses through the glass window. We thank these two beautiful ladies for their role in stopping the spread of this virus.

HOW TO SUPPORT
SM ALL B USINESSES IN THESE UNCERTAIN TIMES Thousands of businesses across Canada are feeling the financial strain of the coronavirus after closing their doors to uphold social distancing practices. For small business owners suddenly deprived of customers, any support from the local community can spell the difference between surviving the pandemic and closing their doors forever.
10
NEIGHBOURHOODMAGA ZINE .CA
Here are some ways you can help support small businesses during this trying time. Buy Online While some local restaurants have opted to close their doors to weather the outbreak, many restaurants are offering delivery and pickup, but check for delivery options at places other than restaurants. Your local hardware store, flower shop, bookstore or clothing boutique may not have their usual storefront, but many are providing delivery or curbside pickup.
Buy Gift Cards Purchasing a gift card to your favourite shop, theatre or restaurant is an immediate way to put cash into a business. Gift cards can go toward helping cash flow in these uncertain times.
See if Local Studios are offering Video Classes Quarantine life can get dull. Check out local exercise studios to see if they are offering livestream classes. You can also hire a financial planner, therapist, tax accountant, personal trainer, or music teacher right now ― they’re all providing services online.
Leave Good Reviews A word of support can also go a long way for stressed-out business owners. Go online to post positive reviews. Reach out by social media, e-mail, phone call, or whatever mechanism you have to tell them that you support them and when all of this is over, you’ll be there at their door.
Now might be a good time for Home Projects or Repairs If you’ve been meaning to put up a fence, do a bit of landscaping, replace some windows or tackle any other project that doesn’t take more than a few people to complete, find a local handyman or service to help. On-site auto mechanics are also available if you need them.
Tip Extra Generously, if you can Delivery workers are especially vulnerable to contracting coronavirus, given the nature of their work. If you can afford to tip 40% or even more, delivery workers would appreciate it. And if you’re worried about coming face to face with the delivery worker, ask them to put the bag on your front doorstep instead.
Share Your Knowledge via Social Media If you learn of a unique promotion or idea from a local business, share it online. Businesses are providing decorating and baking kits for kids and their parents, with curb side pickup. Because local businesses usually don’t have huge marketing efforts, their customers can help spread the word through social media.
Be Creative With much more free time than usual, use that time to be creative. Start an online contest / drawing for local business gift cards and services and promote it online and on social media. Each week, draw a winner and share the results. Just how long these small businesses will have to scale back operations is unclear, but ultimately, it’s going to be up to us, the local communities, and customers, to support them. Please do your part and stay safe.

with the WAT ER S HOP WATERSHOPBURLINGTON.COM
The Water Shop in Burlington has been in business for over 30 years and Tim Krukoski has owned it for the last year. The Water Shop provides Distilled Water, Reverse Osmosis, Alkaline Water and Artesian Spring Water.
What are the benefits to having purified water using Reverse Osmosis? 12
NEIGHBOURHOODMAGA ZINE .CA
This form of water purification is 99% pure and is essential for diet and weight loss programs. It helps flush the body of toxins and protects appliances from scale. Water that has been through a Reverse Osmosis process tastes great and helps produce a more flavourful coffee, tea, juice and soup. What type of contaminants are found in water? There are essentially two different types of contaminants found commonly in most water. The first is Bacteriological Ontaminants like E-Coli and Cryptosporidium and the second is chemicals including organics such as pesticides, herbicides and PCB’s. There are also inorganic chemicals that include heavy metals such as lead, mercury, uranium and many more. What do you find most exciting about your business?
One of the highlights is telling stories to clients of people getting healthy by using my water treatments leading the way. What is the most effective water purification method? The best method is Reverse Osmosis and the benefits are the elimination of the two types of contaminants that usually exist it today’s water supply. What are the most popular products the Water Shop offers? Our most popular products would have to be Alkaline Water, fluoride free toothpaste, jumbo cashews, Soda Stream kits, CO2 Bottle Exchanges and flavours in addition to our regular products. Do you offer any purchase plans for your customers? Yes, we have several plans available and they can be found on our website at www.watershopburlington.com.
How does the Water Shop purify its water? We use the best proven technologist to provide our healthy, great tasting water. Our process is made naturally with no chemicals added or used in our process.
Stage 1 - Water Softener for Ion Exchange This first step pre-treats water to remove scaling minerals and reddish brown iron. Stage 2 - Sediment Filtration This next step removes large particles such as sand, silt and rust. Stage 3 - Activated Carbon Filtration This removes unpleasant taste and odour, chlorine, THM’s, volatile organic contaminants, herbicides and pesticides. Stage 4 - Reverse Osmosis At this time the water is forced under pressure through a membrane which removes up to 99% of dissolved solids such as lead, copper, sodium, nitrates, radium, mineral salts and bacteria. Stage 5 - Carbon Block Filtration This step removes organic chemicals and polishes the purified water for a superior taste. Stage 6 - Ultraviolet Sterilization This final stage ensures that any remaining bacteria is destroyed before the water is dispensed into to your bottle.
