“TESTIMONIAL
We loved working with Nutan to find our first house! She was incredibly helpful in teaching us how to navigate the crazy real estate market in Toronto. We spent a long time looking at houses to determine what we wanted but when it came to the actual sale of our condo and purchase of the house it went so fast! I totally expected our condo to linger and to be in many bidding wars for the house considering the state of the market, but that was not the case. Nutan’s expertise ensured both transactions were quick and smooth, getting us the price we wanted for the condo and making sure we had a competitive (but affordable) bid for the house. She even got an artist to paint us a beautiful picture of our new house that we will have on our walls for the rest of our lives. Thank you so much Nutan, we could not have done this without you! ~ Shelagh & Dan
GREAT WAYS TO MAXIMIZE YOUR CLOSET SPACE
Organizing a messy or cluttered closet makes it easier to find your clothes, creates space and makes the whole room look neat and tidy. Here are some closet storage ideas, tips and tricks to help maximize space in your closet.
USE SHELVES TO OPTIMIZE SPACE AND ADD
DECOR
“Adding wooden or wire shelving to your closet is a great way to increase storage for items like shoes and other non-hangable items,” says Katie Linnen, storage and organization merchant for The Home Depot
Canada. “Wire shelves are perfect for letting things like linens breathe, while wooden shelving is sturdier for heavier items. Installing adjustable shelving systems, like the models from StyleWell, provide maximum versatility to display accessories, and keep your totes and bins organized.”
HANG THINGS THE SMART WAY
Hang your garments efficiently with a few of these tips. Use two rods at varying heights to hang twice the number of items. Use the highestlevel rod for long items like coats and dresses. Smaller hangers and specialty hangers can be used for ties, scarves and belts to keep them organized and accessible.
USE BASKETS AND BINS
Baskets and bins are an effective way of storing smaller items like jewelry, linens, pajama pants, accessories and other items that don’t require hangers. Bins can be stacked and hidden in shelving to keep your closet looking neat and organized.
KEEP YOUR SHOES TIDY
Store your shoes with one from each pair facing in opposite directions to help maximize space. Put them in shelving or cubbies or get a shoe rack to keep them organized. There are also shoe storage solutions that can be mounted to your door or wall, angling downward to give you a clear view of what’s on the rack or shelf. Shoe boxes are great for keeping dust at bay but are usually bulkier and take up more space. Rods can even be installed on your wall to hang your high heels from, creating a cool and organized look.
USE DRAWERS TO ORGANIZE LARGE AND SMALL ITEMS
Drawers are a great option for storing towels, pants and anything else that’s foldable. Plus, they slide away neatly for hidden storage but still give you access when needed. You can even use the top of the cabinet as another storage area.

STYLISH MUDROOMS BY DESIGN
By Lindsay Thornton | Cornerstone Design & Build
CREATING A FUNCTIONAL AND STYLISH MUDROOM REQUIRES A THOUGHTFUL BLEND OF DESIGN AND PRACTICALITY; UNFORTUNATELY, SHOES DON’T HIDE THEMSELVES.
Creating a functional and stylish mudroom requires a thoughtful blend of design and practicality; unfortunately, shoes don’t hide themselves. Therefore, the first step is to inventory all of the items your mudroom needs to store each season. Does your mudroom need to accommodate sports gear, pet supplies, or just everyday coats and shoes? Once you have your list of items, you can tailor your design accordingly.
The next step is to assess who will be using the space & how tidy are they really! We have found that families with children (young and old) prefer open hooks/cubbies, as a closed door seems to be one too many steps in putting items away. We have also found that kids tend to do well with
their own locker or hooks to give them a designated space to hang their bag/coat. Opting for drawers or baskets for shoe and hat storage also tends to work better vs shelving which requires a more careful placement.
We highly recommend investing in custom storage to address your functional needs, while also adding a custom colour/texture. However, if a custom solution is not in your budget, opt for a bench with wall hooks and then add in colour on the walls or a washable patterned floor runner.
Consider a combination of open and closed storage to maintain a tidy appearance while keeping items readily accessible Additionally, incorporating adjustable shelves or a mix of hooks that can help accommodate varying heights and changing needs. Choosing durable materials will ensure your mudroom stands up to daily wear and tear. Opt for easy-to-clean flooring such as ceramic tile, vinyl, or natural stone, and select patterns or textures that help conceal dirt. For wall finishes, use washable paint or durable materials like beadboard.
When it comes to selecting a style vein for your mudroom, don’t be shy! Mudrooms are often a closed off area to the home, so don’t be afraid to play with a bit of colour or wallpaper/panelling.
On trend lately, are handmade/ old looking tiles, which we love for mudrooms as they hide dirt so easily. Consider a brick patterned floor or a textured tile that will help conceal dirt, while also adding some style. Lastly, we know that for many of our design clients they have had the challenge of having dirty shoes and having to run to other parts of the home prior to leaving the house. To avoid this, we recommend and include within our designs the ▹
following within a mudroom 1) Key Storagea box or hooks will do. 2) A bench or chair for tricky boots and 3) a mirror!
One final item to consider is proper ventilation is also important, particularly if you’re storing sports equipment or pet supplies that may require extra air circulation.
By integrating these design tips, you can create a mudroom that is both stylish and highly functional, tailored to meet the every changing needs of your family. ◆

LEMON ASPARAGUS
Carbonara
DIRECTIONS
STEP ONE: Separate 2 eggs, reserving whites for another purpose. Whisk the 2 yolks with 2 whole eggs, Parmesan cheese, lemon zest, 2 tbsp (30 ml) lemon juice, salt and black pepper; set aside.
STEP TWO: Fill a large, deep skillet with water and bring to a simmer. Add 1 tbsp (15 ml) lemon juice. Crack 4 to 6 eggs (use 1 per serving) into ramekins and slide into the simmering skillet of water. Poach eggs for 3 to 4 minutes or until whites are set but yolks are still runny. Use a slotted spoon to carefully transfer poached eggs to a paper-towel-lined plate.
STEP THREE: Meanwhile, cook spaghetti according to package timing for al dente in a dutch oven of boiling water seasoned with 1 tbsp (15 ml) salt. Reserve 2 cups (500 ml) of hot pasta
water before draining pasta. Reserve pasta in colander and return dutch oven to stovetop; set over medium heat.
STEP FOUR: Add butter and asparagus to dutch oven; sauté for 3 minutes. Add garlic; sauté for 1 minute.
STEP FIVE: Gradually whisk about 1/2 cup (125 ml) of reserved pasta water into the egg, cheese and lemon mixture to temper it. Add hot, drained spaghetti and egg mixture to asparagus. Cook, tossing constantly and adding additional pasta cooking water until pasta is saucy and heated through.
STEP SIX: Divide pasta between serving bowls and top with a poached egg. Serve immediately with extra cheese on the side.
