LET’S TALK...

Physiotherapy Q

How does Humber Bay Physio differentiate from other physio clinics?

At Humber Bay Physio, being a multidisciplinary clinic and with a team of trained professionals, we try our best to help people to improve their health conditions and their overall quality of life. In context of Physiotherapy, we focus more on hands-on approach rather than just the passive therapy. We encourage people to take active part in their own well being and together we can achieve success. Walking on a travelator will take you to the destination but if you take steps along, you will reach your destination sooner and safer.

www.HumberBayPhysio.ca Always Wonderful! The staff at Humber Bay Physio are amazing and the number of services they offer is really incredible. This is a one stop shop for everything health related!! From massages to Physio, colonics, naturopathy and so much more. Humber Bay is so lucky to have this local self health machine!!! ~ Susan Jones

Q

How do I know that I need physiotherapy?

There is no rocket science in understanding what your body needs, you just have to listen to it. Pain is a protective mechanism although it’s an unpleasant sensation, it reminds you that something is wrong with your body, please take care of it. Furthermore, it’s not that physiotherapy can be done only after the surgery, it’s actually there to help an individual to prevent the surgery. Physiotherapy would also help you with your personal heath and wellness, help you to get fit without hurting yourself.

Q

Is physiotherapy all about modalities and stretches?

Physiotherapy does include modalities and stretches but that’s not it. Physiotherapy is an umbrella under which a lot of things are covered. Modalities are used initially to reduce pain or to help with the healing of the injured tissues but the main goal is to treat the underlying cause and not just the symptoms. To feel better overall and avoid further injuries, right amount of manual therapy and active exercise therapy is needed and that’s what physiotherapy is all about.

Q

What can I expect from first few sessions of physiotherapy?

Barral Visceral Manipulation Biodentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) Schroth Scoliosis Rehabilitation Colonic Hydrotherapy BioFlex Light Therapy Psychotherapy

FREE Consultation

Chiropody/Podiatry Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy Naturopathy Athletic Therapy Osteopathy Physiotherapy Chiropractic Massage therapy

Physiotherapy is no magic and hence, there won’t be any miracle overnight. A person might feel more pain or soreness after first couple of sessions and that’s completely normal as that’s how our body responds but that soreness would be gone in 24-48 hours. It’s similar like working out in a gym for first time, one might feel sore and tired but eventually that pain and soreness goes away and one start to feel better. So, nobody has to panic about it.

SEX: MALE BREED: MINI DACHSHUND AGE: 11 MONTHS NICKNAME: SAUSAGE

One of the most charming dachshunds from Humber Bay. Life of this adorable guy is full of activities: exploring parks and admiring views from the lakeshore, enjoying car rides and snuggles with his family. This handsome boy is unbelievably photogenic and like a true model has an impressive collection of bow ties and sweaters, though according to his mom some of them look like a crop top on him. Among his favourite activities is going to daycare where he enjoys playing and socializing with his little furry friends.

Ooey-Gooey Cheesy Goodness

Over the Valentine’s weekend, the Small Arms Inspection Building was overrun with Mac & Cheese lovers for the 6th Annual Mac & Cheese Festival, North America’s largest festival of its kind. BY SUSAN GIBBINS

Over the Valentine’s weekend, the Small Arms Inspection Building was overrun with Mac & Cheese lovers for the 6th Annual Mac & Cheese Festival, North America’s largest festival of its kind. The Festival brought together the most skilled mac bosses under one roof to prepare signature dishes and present their ooey-gooey cheesy menus along with plenty of wine, cocktails, margaritas and craft beer. When patrons weren’t stuffing their faces, they could enjoy playing racing simulators, giant Jenga, a wide array of board games and retro games on Nintendo Classic, Super Nintendo and Playstation Classic. There was also a section for the kiddies to run and jump around. It was amazing to see so many mac and cheese creations, over 50 in all. Now that’s a way to celebrate Valentine’s. Can’t wait until next year!

All for a Good Cause BY KAREN ALLMEN-CHOW

RECENTLY, CAPUCCI SALON and the new spa within the salon, Skin & Bodyfresh, hosted an amazing fundraising event in support of St. Joseph’s Health Centre. For the fourth year in a row, the owners and staff of Capucci’s donated their time and all funds collected for services (which were provided at a 20% discount) was donated to St. Joe’s. Not to be outdone, the owners and staff at Skin & Bodyfresh also donated their time and donated all funds to St. Joe’s. The fundraising efforts were also aided by the sale of Lucky Draw tickets. Over 50 prizes were available to be won, all donated by an array of local businesses and salon suppliers.

Make Ahead Tip I LOVE Chicken Schnitzel, it’s one of my favourite guilty indulgences. No guilt with this one. It is baked, full of good nutrients, loaded with flavour and is a sure winner each time! Quinoa flakes replace the traditional breadcrumbs and can be found in any whole foods store. Make it with the Chopped Tomato Garlic Bruschetta Mixture or not! Either way, you will love it! Serves 4-6

Ingredients 1 1/2 lb Chicken Scaloppini 1/2 cup Flour of any sort 2 Eggs, beaten Oil spray QUINOA COATING 1 1/2 cup Quinoa Flakes or Breadcrumbs 1 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder 1/2 tsp Sea Salt 1/4 - 1/2 tsp Pepper 1 tsp Paprika 2 tsp Lemon Zest 2 tbsp Fresh Parsley 2 tbsp Sesame Seeds, white or black or a mix CHOPPED TOMATO GARLIC BRUSCHETTA MIXTURE (OPTIONAL) 3-4 Ripe Tomatoes, remove seeds and chop 1/4 inch dice Kosher salt 1 clove Garlic, chopped finely 1/2 tsp Dried Oregano 1 Green Onion, white and light green part, chopped fine 5-6 leaves Basil, chopped finely

The chicken can be floured, egged and coated, placed on a sheet of wax paper and either stored for the day in the refrigerator or frozen uncovered as is. Once frozen, the chicken pieces can be stored in a zip-lock bag. Allow the chicken to defrost uncovered in the refrigerator for a few hours or overnight before brushing with oil and broiling.

Directions STEP 1. Preheat oven to Broil. Arrange the rack to second from the top position. Line cookie sheet with foil and spray with the coconut oil spray. STEP 2. Mix together in a medium size bowl Quinoa Coating ingredients, place in shallow dish. Place egg in another shallow dish, place flour in a third shallow dish. Arrange dishes so that flour is first, then egg, then coating. STEP 3. Dip each pice of chicken in flour, shake off excess. Dip in egg, then coat in Quinoa Coating mixture. Lay coated chicken piece on oiled cookie sheet. Repeat with all the chicken. STEP 4. Lightly spray each piece of chicken with oil). STEP 5. Broil for 3-5 minutes, flip pieces over, broil for 3-5 more minutes. STEP 6. Serve with Tomato Garlic Bruschetta mixture. STEP 7. To make the Tomato Garlic Bruschetta mixture: Season the tomatoes with salt and put them in a colander to drain for 5-10 minutes (or longer). Transfer tomatoes to a bowl and fold in remaining ingredients, season with salt and freshly ground pepper.

Exhibition of Art From February 10th to March 1st, Neilson Park Creative Centre held an exhibition of works in various media by the students of Louise Zych, instructor of Basics & Beyond classes. IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE that the students who agreed to exhibit their works come from all walks of life, ages, experience and talents. Some have been students of Louise for many years. Some of those adults would have started from youth and some adults in later stages of their lives have long wanted to explore their artistic side. Regardless of when or where the student started in their artistic journey, what visitors see here is the result of years of study, exploration, courage and dedication of those students who come here to Neilson Park Creative Centre to reach this stage of their journey. It is also a testament to the dedication of instructors like Louise Zych who put all their energy and expertise into the fostering and nurturing of these students and all students like them through the programs provided by NPCC. The value of the programs provided by NPCC is clearly evident in this exhibition. For more information on the artists and Neilson Park Creative Centre go to www.neilsonparkcreativecentre.com.
