Many of the residents of Wawel Villa Seniors Residence, located in Clarkson, gathered to help Cecylia celebrate her milestone 100th birthday along with some of her family including two of her daughters, two granddaughters and one great-granddaughter. The story of Cecylia’s life was beautifully recounted by one of her daughters which was then followed by the reading of special birthday wishes from the Queen, the Prime Minister and many other dignitaries. MP Sven Spengeman was kind enough to bring Cecilia a beautiful bouquet of white tulips. Everyone was treated to a delicious piece of chocolate cake and champagne and watched Cecilia and Robert do what they love best – dance. Here’s to another 100 years!

Peel Children’s Centre (PCC) welcomed guests to its sold-out Evening of Hope Gala and Auction, presented by Bell.
The masquerade-themed event raised $66,180 in support of PCC’s high quality, free and confidential mental health services for children, youth and their families. Janice Golding, a video journalist for CTV News Toronto, was the event’s special guest Master of Ceremonies. Donning a Venetian masquerade mask, PCC CEO Humphrey Mitchell welcomed and thanked guests for their support.

Mitchell reminded guests that behind every mask there is a face, and behind that face, a story. He then invited guests to remove their masks to show their commitment to ending the stigma of mental health that stops many people from reaching out and getting help from service providers like PCC. In December at the Keller Williams office in Port Credit, Theresa Baird and her team hosted their annual ‘Photos with Santa’. Families were treated to a fun afternoon decorating cookies, making crafts and singing Christmas carols. Santa and The Grinch were hanging out with everyone and taking pictures with all the children. It was a great afternoon of making memories and getting into the holiday spirit.

On Saturday, December 7, Battaglia’s Marketplace held its ‘Toys for Tots Drive Collection’. It was an overwhelming success, with more toys than could be counted and with over $1,200 in cash donations which will definitely bring Christmas joy to many less fortunate boys and girls. Those in attendance were treated to live music from musicians Paul, Will, Matt and David and some delicious apple cider. Battaglia’s would like to thank everyone for their generosity and such a great day. It was another wonderful thing to happen in the Lorne Park community this holiday season.

In it’s 11th year, the annual ’twas the Bite Before Christmas Family Friendly Turkey Dinner was held on Tuesday, December 3rd at Oasis Banquet Hall in support of the Mississauga

An annual favourite, celebrity guests served up a festive Christmas dinner with all the trimmings to over 200 guests. As the guests arrived, they were greeted by the beautiful voices of the Cawthra Secondary School Choir. The Emcee for the evening was TV personality, life coach and author, Tania Kolar. The nights entertainment came from Comedian, Frank Spadone, who kept the crowd laughing throughout the evening. Honorary Chair, Mayor Bonnie Crombie was also there to lend a helping hand and say a few words. The dinner was another huge success.

The 14th Annual Indoor Winter Handcrafted Marketplace was held at Cawthra Park Secondary School.
The event was held on Saturday, December 7th and Sunday, December 8th and featured over 70 awesome vendors. Shoppers could browse the booths to find that perfect gift for everone on their list. Everything from Fresh Baking & Preserves, Natural Bath & Body Products, Hand-painted Ceramics & Pottery, Modern Art, Jewellery, Stained Glass, Seasonal Decorations, Artisan Wood Products & Rustic Signs, Honey & Oils, Soups, Handmade Fair Trade Items from Cambodia, Thailand, Haiti, Indonesia & Nicaragua, Adult & Children’s Fashions & Accessories were available. After all that shopping,

shoppers headed upstairs to the Café for soup and sandwiches and all sorts of yummy treats. Proceeds from the show went to Cawthra Park School Council, QE School Council and Peet Children’s Centre.

On January 1st, 2020, those brave enough to take the plunge, ran into Lake Ontario at RK McMillan Park in Port Credit. The Brogue’s owner, Tommy Donnelly, inspired by a suggestion from his friend, David Emms decided to create their own polar bear dip as a fun way to give back to the community by raising money for charity. This years’ repeat recipient is the Ian Anderson House, a residential cancer hospice that offers end-of-life palliative care. The cold temperatures lakeside were replaced quickly by the warmth of the Brogue Inn, where raffles and live auctions created lots of excitement to kick-off 2020. A great yearly tradition that was enjoyed by all.
