RUDY CUZZETTO
FAMILY DAY SKATE By Rudy Cuzzetto
It’s great to be back out again with the local community, after a one-year pause due to COVID-19, for the Annual Rudy Cuzzetto Family Day Skate. With the hard work and progress of nearly all Ontarians pulling up their sleeves and getting the vaccine, we were able to continue the tradition and host this event at our local community centre in Clarkson. It was wonderful to see residents from across Mississauga-Lakeshore come and spend their time with myself as well as with family, friends and neighbours. I want to thank Sarah Quinn and her team at Tim Hortons Lakeview for their generous donation of delicious hot chocolate as well as a thank you to Daniel Loszmann and his team at Donut Hive for providing tasty donuts. It was great to be able to host this traditional community event--I can’t wait to see you all next year! Sincerely, Rudy

CROOKED CUE
By Trevor Gordon ■ Photography by Susan Gibbins
For EPILEPSY AWARENESS MONTH IN MARCH, a fundraising event was held on Sunday, February 27th hosted by John Pappas at the Crooked Cue to create awareness about epilepsy and to educate the public.
Back In 2012, the Canadian Government passed the Purple Day Act declaring March 26th “Purple Day” to recognize all who have been diagnosed with epilepsy along with their supportive families. People from neighbouring communities came to Port Credit for an afternoon of challenging their skills with a pool cue and raising funds for Epilepsy South Central Ontario, located in Port Credit at 250-A Lakeshore Road East.

FOR THE MUFFINS
STEP 1: Preheat oven to 325˚F and prepare a muffin tin with paper liners.
STEP 1: Place finely chopped chocolate into a heat-proof glass or metal bowl.
STEP 3: Let the two ingredients sit for a few minutes before stirring.
4 ripe bananas, mashed 90 g unsalted butter, melted 100 g granulated sugar 100 g packed light brown sugar 1 large egg, at room temperature 5 ml vanilla extract 225 g all-purpose flour 5 g baking soda .75 g salt 250 ml toasted pecan pieces (optional)

STEP 5: Using an ice cream scoop, scoop the mixture into the paper lined muffin tin filling to 2/3 of the way up. STEP 6: Bake for about 15-17 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean when you insert into centre of muffin. STEP 7: Cool the muffins completely on a wire rack. Meanwhile, make the ganache. 12

STEP 2: Heat cream in a small sauce pan on the stovetop until just simmering (you will see small bubbles along the edges of the pot). Do not let it boil. turn off the heat and immediately pour the warm cream over the chocolate.
PETIT FOUR ASSEMBLY
400 g semi-sweet chocolate, chopped into small pieces 175 ml heavy cream 1/2 cup sprinkles of white chocolate curls
With the cooled muffins, remove the wrapping paper and put the muffins on the cooling rack with a clean sheet pan underneath, and making sure the muffins aren’t too far apart. Pour the ganache into a liquid measuring cup with a spout, and slowly pour over each muffin, coating top and sides. You could use a small offset spatula to help guide the ganache onto the sides of the muffin. The extra ganache that drips into the pan can be scooped up with a spatula and reused on the muffins, or put in the fridge for later use. Sprinkle the tops with the white chocolate curls and let set completely before serving.

Coldest
NIGHT OF THE YEAR Article by Christie Reyna ■ Photography by Susan Gibbins
Armagh held its first Coldest Night of the Year Fundraiser on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Lakefront Promenade Park. Coldest Night of the Year is a walk fundraiser created by BlueSea Foundation to raise awareness for those experiencing homelessness, hunger and hurt, and to raise money for charities that host the event. The idea is for participants to complete a 2KM or 5KM walk, to get a glimpse of what many Canadians who experience homelessness have to go through every winter. Charities across Canada have participated in this fundraiser for years, and Armagh was very excited to host it this year! Despite the challenges COVID-19 presented, the community showed up and helped us go above and beyond our fundraising goal by over $23,000 (and the number continues to go up!). We are so overwhelmed by the support from the community, and are grateful to everyone who fundraised, donated, sponsored, volunteered their time, and came out for our fundraiser. It really goes to show what can be accomplished when a community works together for an amazing cause. The money raised will go towards Armagh’s Expansion Project, where we aim to create more residential units, add spaces for children & youth, and create a tranquil courtyard. This expansion project is meant to address the urgent need for safe, supportive housing in Peel that has worsened due to the pandemic. As the only Second Stage Shelter in Peel, this expansion will allow us to help more women and children not just survive the abuse, but thrive as they work to rebuild their lives free from violence. Through this fundraiser, we are another step closer to reaching our expansion project goals, and all the credit goes to our community. Thank you for making our first Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser a success!
IN STREETSVILLE, THE COLDEST NIGHT OF THE YEAR TEAM HONOURED THE MEMORY OF “STREETSVILLE JASON” TO RAISE AWARENESS FOR THE HURTING, THE HUNGRY AND THE HOMELESS. The Troopers met at the Tim Hortons (Streetsville)
location where “Streetsville Jason” often frequented. They walked to the boarding house where he lived and ended the walk at the Streetsville Square where there is a bench memorial in his name. For the fourth year in a row the team raised funds for Eden Food for Change and were able to donate over two thousand dollars to the charity. By Peeter Poldre 14
