Toowoomba hosts Pony Club Nationals The Pony Club National Championships are held every two years and this year Pony Club Queensland will be hosting the National Championships at the Toowoomba Showgrounds in September.

Pony Club Australia introduced the concept of a national championship after Sydney was granted the hosting rights of the 2000 Olympic Games to assist and encourage all pony clubbers to strive for their Olympic dreams.

Riders will come from all states to compete in dressage, showjumping, eventing, formal gymkhana, mounted games, tetrathlon, formal gymkhana and a quiz competition from September 18-22.

In addition, there will be two international teams from France and China also competing adding to the sense of occasion.

Each state may nominate six riders per age group and discipline which include: Dressage Juniors Novice Level Associates Elementary level Eventing Juniors Pre-Novice Level Associates Novice Level Showjumping Juniors Maximum start height 1.10m Associates Maximum start height 1.15m Tetrathalon Juniors 12 and under 17 years Associates 17 years & under 25 years

Pony clubbers from around Australia and from overseas will converge on Toowoomba in September for the Pony Club National Championships.

Tetrathlon is new to Queensland, and is run over four phases in Sub-junior; Junior and Senior age groups and includes running, swimming, shooting (laser pistols) and riding ( showjumping).

and showjump style fences Shooting Phase - Each competitor will have two snap-shooting targets each with five shots fired consecutively Swimming Phase – time over a set distance: Subjunior 100m, Junior 200m and Senior 200m.

Running Phase – time over a set distance: Subjunior 1000m, Junior 2000m and Senior 3000m.

The show jumping course is different to a normal show jumping course as it is to include some cross country style jumps.

Competitors also have to negotiate a gate and a slip rail.

All competitors will be scored for individual championships and the top three scores to count for the overall team awards.

Riders will also compete for the Roger Braham OAM Perpetual Shield which will be awarded to the Champion State, awarded over all Championship disciplines competing at the event.

An international show jump challenge is also included at this year's national event.

Australia will select a team from riders participating at the nationals and the visiting teams will borrowed horses for the challenge.

Power of Pink raising money for breast cancer The Power of Pink dressage and show jumping weekend is fast approaching and participants are urged to look out their best pink outfits and gear for the charity day.

It is a National Breast Cancer Foundation endorsed charity event and will be held on 14th and 15th of October at the Murwillumbah Showgrounds.

The Power of Pink was awarded Community Event of the Year by Tweed Shire Council in 2011, and has received multiple nominations for Equestrian Queensland Event of the Year and the Wonders of Women Awards.

In support of the event, the Australian Dressage Council has approved an official dress code exemption to allow the riders and their horses to compete in pink.

Thanks to all the participants and sponsors, The Power of Pink has raised more than $68,000 for Breast Cancer Research over the past eight years.

All funds raised including riding class entry fees, sponsorship and donations are donated directly to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The gourmet café is operated by The Mt Warning Dragon’s Abreast dragon boat team - two time world champion breast cancer survivors.

Equestrian sports have a large representation of female competitors and breast cancer will affect many of our lives.

The Tweed Valley Equestrian Group were inspired by participants experiences to help fund research for breast cancer.

event is the perfect partner to help raise money and is well under way in its planning for the 2017 event and are seeking prizes for classes and/or donations for the popular online fundraising auction.

Last year they raised a staggering $15,000.

The warning signs and stages of foaling The Gestation Period for Mares is approximately 320-370 days from the first time being bred. To generalize the estimation of the due date use a 340 day gestation period.

The First signs One of the first signs foaling date is approaching is the distended udder.

During the last month, the udder usually enlarges as it fills with milk, it may fill up at night while she is resting and shrink during the day while she exercises. When the udder remains full through out the day, foaling is probably near.

Relaxation of the muscles of the pelvic area usually occurs about three weeks prior to foaling.

This process is gradual and may not be seen on all mares but in most, a distinctive change in the appearance can be seen.

A hollow develops on either side of the root of the tail as muscles of the hip and buttock area start to relax.

Waxing of the teats - wax-like beads appear at the end of each teat ( they are droplets of colostrum). They can appear anywhere between 12-36 hours prior to foaling or a week or two before foaling, and sometimes fails to occur at all in some mares.

Relaxation of the vulva occurs in the 24-48 hours before foaling, the vulva can be observed to swell and relax in preparation to stretching several times it's normal size to allow passage of the foal.

The appearance of wax on the end of the teats, droplets of milk, dripping or streaming milk can sometimes occur for several days prior to foaling. Unfortunately, mares that stream milk prior to foaling lose large amounts of colostrum, the vital first milk that contains antibodies and a laxative for the newborn foal.

If the mare is losing a significant quantity it should be collected and frozen. Colostrum can be thawed and fed to the new born foal at birth.

Many mares exhibit behaviour changesduring the last few weeks of gestation a mare can become cranky, restless and as she enters the first stage of labour she may want to be left alone. She may walk continually in pasture or stall, switch her tail, look at her sides o rkick at her abdomen. These signs are also indicative of colic, but if the mare eats, drinks , defecates, urinates frequently then the first stage of labour is probably in progress.

As labour approaches the mare often breaks into a sweat. The mare's neck, flanks may feel warm and damp or a general sweat over all the body may occur.

The next step is being able to recognise the various stages of birth: Stage one - positioning of the foal Stage two - delivery of the foal Stage three - expulsion of the placenta The ability to recognise each stage and to follow the normal chain of events that occur during each phase allows the attendant of the mare to be able to assess whether that mare needs assistance.

Understanding the foaling warning signs  from page 9 The outward signs are, restlessness, sweating of the flanks, as the uterine contractions become more severe, the mare may become very nervous, pacing, walking fence lines, looking at her flanks, kicking at her abdomen, she may paw the ground, may even get up and down several times to help position the foal.

Once these signs are recognised the attendant should check the mare then observe from a discreet distance.

The end of the first stage is marked by rupture of the allantoic membrane and a sudden release of allantoic fluid, a process that helps lubricate the birth canal. This usually occurs one to four hours after the onset of the first stage.

Stage two The delivery of the foal is characterised by very strong contractions of the abdominal and uterine muscles.

During this period the mare usually positions herself on her side with her legs fully extended to facilitate voluntary straining that aids her expulsion efforts.

She may get up and down several times to help position the foal or may even move around with the foals head and legs protruding.

If labour continues while the mare is standing someone should catch the foal and lower it to the ground gently to help it avoiding injury.

If the mare should lie down next to a wall or a fence the attendant should make sure there is plenty of room for the foals delivery.

If the mare is too close to an obstacle the mare should be made to get up and allow her to find a new position, where the perineal region is free.

A strong, healthy foal is the goal of all breeders.

The foal is normally presented in an upright position, with its head tucked between extended forelegs.

As the head and neck appear, enclosed in the bluish-white amnion, the foal's shoulders pass through the pelvic opening.

One foot is usually positioned slightly in front of the other to help reduce the circumference of the foal's shoulder and there-by ease its passage through the birth canal.

After this critical period the mare usually

The mare may rest in the final stage with the foals legs still inside her. rests for a short time then delivers the rest of the foal with relative ease.

The amnionic foetal membranes are usually broken as the foal emerges or as it first attempts to lift its head.

If the membrane is not broken immediately after the foal's delivery the attendant should tear the membrane to clear the nasal passages so the foal can breathe and so as to prevent suffocation.

After the foal's hips have passed through the mare's pelvis the mare usually rests once more.

The foal's hindlegs may remain in the mare's vagina for several minutes, in this time it allows the foal to receive essential blood from the placenta via the umbilical cord and should not be interrupted.

In most cases, the time from rupture of the allantochorion to the post delivery rest period is completed in minutes, but a range of 10 to 60 minutes is considered normal.

As the mare rises or as the foal struggles to stand the umbilical cord usually breaks.

Because the foal receives a significant amount of blood from the placenta via the umbilical cord, the cord should not be prematurely ruptured.

Stage three Expulsion of the placenta is the last stage of labour. This usually occurs within three hours. However the normal range is 10 minutes to eight hours. During this period the

uterine contractions continue to proceed in an effort to expel the placenta.

The mare will exhibit signs of discomfort.

The placenta is expelled inside out because the contractions cause inversion of the placenta as it comes away from the lining of the uterus.

The purpose of these contractions is also to cleanse the uterus of fluid, debris and return the expanded uterus to its normal size.

As this stage may last several hours it may be helpful for the attendant to tie the afterbirth in a knot that hangs above the mareâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s hocks.

This will help prevent the mare from stepping on the membranes and tearing them out prematurely but also adds gentle pressure using gravity to aid in expelling the placenta.

The attendant should not attempt to pull the placenta from the mare's reproductive tract as this could cause tears and leave remnants of placenta that could cause future uterine infections.

Retention of even small pieces of placenta is a potentially very serious condition.

Once the placenta is passed it is a good policy to lay it flat on the ground and check it is all in tact.

There is new evidence that suggests that the weight of the placenta correlates to the condition of the mares reproductive tract and also correlates to the health of the foal.

The normal placental weight in light horses is 10 to 13 pounds.

The texture of the membrane is important.

If the membrane is thick and tough or if it shows haemorrhagic spots, then placental infection might be suspected.

When the placenta has been infected the foal will often show some abnormality at birth.

Close examination of the placenta is important, if you have any doubts keep the placenta in a plastic lined and covered bucket with a small amount of water to keep moist till your veterinarian can examine it.

Post foaling the mare should be watched carefully for 4 to 5 days after foaling.

It is normal for the mare to have a dark red discharge for 6 to 7 days, but if a yellow discharge is seen this indicates infection.

This requires veterinary attention.

Dealing with mastitis and other mammary problems

By Dr CHRISTINE MYERS, BVSc, DACVIM WestVETS Animal Hospital Mammary gland problems in the mares are thankfully not common, however occasionally some issues can arise including; mastitis, abnormal milk production, discharge, swellings, lumps and ulceration.

The horse has two mammary glands and two teats, which are quite small, unlike the cow (which has four large teats).

The technique for milking a horse is also quite different to a cow and there are two holes in the tip of each teat that don't always point in the same direction.

Collecting milk into a jug to feed a foal can be a challenge and a bit messy!

Mastitis Mares rarely suffer from mastitis but it can occur in maiden mares, barren mares, mares feeding a foal, after the loss of a foal or after weaning.

The signs for mastitis include large, swollen mammary glands, often hot and painful to touch and sometimes with chunky or bloodtinged discharge coming from the opening of the teats.

The mare can develop a fever and feel unwell.

Treatment includes antibiotics (it may be helpful for the vet to get a sample of milk to culture the bacteria that is causing a problem so that antibiotic selection is appropriate); antiinflammatory pain relief and milking out the infected discharge/milk from the gland - this last step isn't always easy and unless you use

The heartbreak of premeature foaling

Mares can be difficult to get in foal but the majority of owners wake up to a healthy mare and foal

The first concept to understand is that the gestation period of a mare can be quite variable.

The normal range is 320 – 360 days and so sometimes a foal can be born up to three weeks earlier than the generally accepted average period of 340 days

and still be perfectly normal.

It is in this last six to eight weeks of pregnancy that premature foals are a possibility and often these foals are alive but premature and it is often possible to save many of these.

Treatment and management of these early foals needs to be very intensive and aggressive and of necessity, can become extremely expensive.

The foal is susceptible to many complications and owners intending to attempt to salvage one of these foals need to have a long and frank discussion with their veterinarian before commencing.

Nonetheless, it can be very rewarding to be involved in the treatment.

At this stage, I wanted to discuss more the situation of what an owner should consider if their mare begins to develop signs that may signal the possibility of an early foaling.

Most commonly, this includes the relatively early development of a large udder and possibly the presence of a vaginal discharge or streaming of milk from the udder.

The owner should immediately seek veterinary advice.

The first, and in times gone by, most common cause was the presence of twins.

With modern scanning and pregnancy testing methods, this is a lot less common but is still the first thing that should be considered.

The next most common cause is placental insufficiency.

Mares are starting to foal and fortunately the majority of owners wake up one morning and are presented with a normal healthy foal.

The creator missed out a little when the horse was made and their reproductive system was left a little less than perfect.

The mare can be difficult to get in foal in the first place but unfortunately, she is also quite prone to miscarriage and premature foals.

By this time of the year there has already been a wave of actual abortions which is a common occurrence at about the seven month stage of pregnancy associated with an internal change in the hormonal control of pregnancy and at this stage, there is no hope of survival of the foetus.

As the pregnancy progresses and the mare approaches term, another critical period in the gestation develops as the foal’s needs becomes much more demanding and not infrequently the mare is unable to sustain a normal healthy foetus and premature foaling can become a problem.

This simply means that the mares/foal support system via the uterus and placenta is just not functional enough to sustain the extreme demands of the rapidly developing foal in the last three months of pregnancy.

This is much more common in horses that are older or have had several previous foals, but it may occur as a result of some problem with any previous pregnancy such as retained placenta or post foaling infections.

The uterus develops some fibrosis and scarring and so is not efficient enough to support a subsequent pregnancy to term The third common cause is some form of actual infection in the uterus.

This can, in some cases, have been present the whole pregnancy from mating, but more frequently it is a result of vaginal contamination resulting from poor conformation and faecal soiling as the weight of the pregnant uterus slowly pulls the anus further forward and increases the angle or slope of the vagina.

Pre-emptive treatment in mares whose perineal conformation may suggest a predisposition to this would be to perform a relatively simple, but highly effective operation known as the “Caslick’s Procedure”.

In this, the lips of the vulva are sutured closed to prevent vaginal contamination. Obviously this surgery needs to be reversed prior to foaling, but it can save many pregnancies. continued page 13

Dealing with foaling is no simple matter from page 12 If symptoms of a possible premature birth develop, the mare needs to be examined and assessed and an attempt made to reach some form of diagnosis as to what the problem is and determine an idea of prognosis.

Obviously the first consideration is to determine the anticipated foaling date and just how early the foal is.

The examination will also obviously include a normal clinical assessment of the mare and her temperature, pulse and respiratory rate.

A rectal examination will be performed to confirm she is still actually pregnant, assess the dilation of the cervix, and determine the foetal position and viability.

Ideally an ultrasound examination may also be performed to assess the placenta and uterine fluids.

If the rectal cannot detect movement of the foal, the vet may scan the mare’s abdomen to look for a foetal heart beat.

Blood tests may be done to look for signs of inflammation and infection and hormone assays can be very useful to establish the viability of the pregnancy and give some idea of prognosis for survival of the foal.

If there is vaginal discharge, this may be cultured to attempt to determine the bacteria causing infection.

Mares can be difficult to get in foal are are quite prone to stillbirths or weak or premature foals Treatment strategies can include the administration of antibiotics if infection is considered a possibility.

It is a not uncommon practice in some mares considered to have a predisposition to infection, to administer antibiotics for days each month throughout the pregnancy.

The previously mentioned Caslick’s operation makes more sense in an attempt to prevent vaginitis in the first place.

Usually altronogest, a synthetic progesterone hormone marketed as “Regumate”, or

“Readyserve”, will be administered, often at quite high dose rates, and occasionally clenbuterol, a smooth muscle relaxant to obviate uterine contractions may be used.

These drugs can be quite effective, but once again, all this treatment can be very expensive and so it is important to develop some diagnosis and prognosis to evolve an appropriate treatment and management plan.

Remember, there is probably something not normal with the foal in the first place and so the drugs may only be prolonging

the inevitable.

There are no “blanket answers” and it is essential that each case is properly evaluated.

Obviously if the foal is born prematurely, immediate and urgent intensive care is required, and this is another story.

A little later in the year, the opposite problem is commonly encountered where the mare is considered to be going well over term.

In these cases, I advise the owner that as long as the mare is within three weeks of the expected date that they should not worry too much as this can be normal.

The most important determination in these cases is that the mare is actually pregnant and so an examination is usually necessary. Each year we see a number of mares with an enormous “grass belly” that actually are not pregnant and the frustrated owners are waiting in vain.

A lot of owners put pressure on the vet to induce the mare to foal when they are overdue.

I usually counsel them to wait and not interfere as unfortunately artificially inducing the mare to foal can lead to many complications and so I prefer to allow nature to take it’s course. If the mare actually goes over 365 days, it is very likely that the service dates are incorrect and careful scrutiny of the records should be made.

increase in speed of transit, and fortunately, most of these are reversible if the cause is eliminated.

Degenerative failure of cells is in the main, irreversible and there is little hope of cure.

Most owners, when their horse’s stool becomes loose, immediately demand antibiotics to "control' the infection.

The reality is that bacterial causes of diarrhoea, particularly in adults, are extremely rare.

By far the most common infection causing diarrhoea is worms.

Large burdens of parasites in the gut, or encysted larvae in the wall of the bowel, cause irritation, inflammation, and increased speed of transit and worms should always be the first possibility considered.

Most modern wormers are extremely efficient and a rapid cure can be expected, although resistance is now becoming more common.

Most cases of sudden onset acute diarrhoea are the result of some form of "digestive disturbance" whereby the horse ingests or is suddenly exposed to some new or different feed.

Obviously sudden changes in pasture would be very common, access to feed sheds or suddenly being given something like bread or carrots can all result in loose manure.

Fortunately most horses pass 6 10 piles of well formed faecal manure balls every day. The horse's digestive system is remarkable in the fact that horses are "hind gut digesters" in that most of the food material is processed in the large colon.

The large colon and caecum are easily the largest primary organ in the horse and amazingly contain a very large volume of "watery material", amounting to up to 120 litres.

Amazingly, the small colon, which is only three metres long, has to absorb all the water out of the colonic fluid that progresses towards the rectum and eventual expulsion as formed faecal balls.

The normal small colon is unbelievably efficient at absorbing water and fortunately in most horses, little goes wrong.

Two disease processes commonly occur. Increased speed of passage of abdominal fluid through the small colon exceed-

break down and digest food and transform it into essential nutrients that are absorbed and nourish the body.

These populations of bacteria and protozoa are very labile and any sudden change in the character of the food can cause chaos within the populations, lead to change, and diarrhoea can result. (Note there are also many extremely serious disease conditions that can result as well).

Fortunately most of these disturbances are transient and as soon as "normality" is re-established, normal manure production resumes.

That being said, probably the most common cause of inflammatory diarrhoea results from the ingestion and accumulation of sand.

This is so common, and yet many people refuse to acknowledge or suspect it. Horses are habitual grazers and they naturally spend most of their "free" time nibbling and nuzzling around with their head to the ground.

The lips are constantly nibbling and exploring the ground and in particular, if grass and food material are in short supply, the lips ingest dirt and sand like a vacuum cleaner into the horse's mouth which is then swallowed and start to build up in the gut.

It is amazing how much sand material can accumulate in the colon in particular.

Dealing with different causes of diarrhoea  from page 20 This sand is extremely irritating and the irritation results in increased speed of transit and loose faecal material.

Very often, the stool is more so called 'cow pat' rather than watery diarrhoea but all forms can occur and the loose manure is often intermittent, seemingly firming up and then relapsing.

Sand "colic" is not that difficult to diagnose and can often be recognised by a typical "washing machine" intestinal sound heard near the sternum with a stethoscope.

A definitive diagnosis can be made by placing manure in a bucket, flooding with water, mixing, and allowing the sand to sediment out to the bottom.

Sand accumulation is difficult to treat.

The single biggest issue in treatment is preventing any further access to sand.

This is often not easy as I said before, the horse is a constant

As horses are forage animals and as grass becomes scarce or they pick up dropped feed they will ingest sand. grazer and will always be nuzzling around on the ground.

Each situation is different and management needs to assess the circumstances and make whatever changes are appropriate.

People rely on addition of psyllium to the feed but this only has limited effect, particularly if in the face of continual and constant ingestion of sand.

Most cases are curable, as long as further intake is ceased.

Over time, the sand already present is slowly passed on and eventually the gut returns to normal.

We have performed quite a few surgeries on horses where findings have been the presence of sand and it is simply incredible how many "buckets" of sand can be removed.

The most serious causes of diarrhoea or soft stools in the horse are the various inflammatory or degenerative bowel diseases that occur.

These are most common in older horses and they usually have a slow insidious onset but the condition is progressive and often results in serious consequences for the horse.

Over the years there have been a plethora of different names for the problems, but these days most are lumped into the syndrome "Inflammatory Bowel Disease".

Diagnosis is usually not that difficult as history, clinical presentation and the age of the horse are strongly suggestive.

Blood tests are informative as such horses usually have a low blood albumin and some sort of inflammatory profile.

Ultrasonography can detect thickening of the intestinal wall and rectal biopsy can give very useful clues.

Interestingly a lot of these biopsies reveal a high number of eosinophils, (a white blood cell associated with allergy) in the

sample.

This suggests that the horse has possibility developed a sensitivity to some chemical or feed material in the gut and has developed an immune reaction over time.

Once again, each case is different and must be analysed.

Certainly it is very important to â&#x20AC;&#x153;chop and changeâ&#x20AC;? the feed around and in some cases, stability can be achieved with certain feeds.

The only real therapy is long term treatment with cortisone as this reduces the inflammation and so allows better fluid absorption.

Rarely does this result in a cure, simply management.

In horses with very low albumin, we often try a plasma transfusion which, combined with feed changes and cortisone, can allow a degree of healing and slow the process.

Watery diarrhoea requires veterinary treatment.

Preparation the key to Balanced Transitions

On completing our 2 day Balance and Transitions course at Dust A Lone Ranch New Zealand. We saw some great changes in the horses as they began to find their balance in unity with the rider.

It got me to thinking about a couple of things. Firstly, how we can often assume that the horse has balance. "He can balance in the paddock" we say. Yes. This is true (though I have seen my fair share of horses fall over in the paddock due to a lack of balance), but we sometimes forget that we are asking him to balance with other influences; A saddle (not only extra weight, but a girth squeezing) A rider - Extra weight A rider - asking for accuracy in travel (in the paddock they can run where they like) A rider - giving cues that they are supposed to interpret A rider - asking for bend, collection etc.

And this is just the start.

We can also confuse the horses with our timing of asking for

balance - sometimes we ask for it too early, on a young horse that is just trying to find his feet with a rider, or we might leave it too late and ride a horse without balance for too long.

I like to introduce the concept of 'preparation' (balance) to young horses when I start them under saddle, however, I do not expect them to hold a

self carriage.

If we introduce balance as preparation for an upward or a downward transition, our horses will begin to make the connection to continuing that balance through the entire ride.

No matter where I am - at a halt, or in motion, I will always ask my horse to prepare (elevate his front end, and

engage his hind) before the transition.

It is vital that I do this for both my up and downward transitions - too often I see horses 'going faster' into their upward transition and 'falling' into the downward.

Fix the preparation and balance in the transitions, and the self carriage will be a lot closer.

Coffs Coast club gets the jump on competition The Coffs Coast Jump Club, based at Coffs Harbour Showgrounds, was formed just under 12 months ago when several local riders got together after realising there was a demand for a showjumping specific club on the mid-north coast.

Local riders previously had to travel long distances to compete and train.

The closest showjumping clubs were located at Wingham in the south, the Tweed in the north and Armidale to the west.

The Coffs club runs rally days every four to six weeks at the Coffs Harbour Showgrounds, and has had great feedback from members and visitors commenting on professional and friendly events the club has held are.

The club caters for riders and horses of all abilities, from poles on the ground, up to 1.25m+ or even as high as riders can competently achieve.

They are affiliated with Equestrian Australia and Jumping NSW and have been attracting riders from all up and down the NSW coast.

They are able to offer riders and horses EA grading points at its competitions which is a bonus

CCJC was sponsored digital timing equipment by locals David and Joan Appleton, which has really assisted the club in providing accurate results for competitors.

They then run software that, when combined with the timing equipment, allows competitors to have access to the results instantly.

lar with competitors looking to improve.

The club is very fortunate to have two local course builders , Athol Clarke and Geoff Goldrick, who have been building challenging courses aimed at keeping riders sharp as well as helping in their performance regardless of ability.

The course have also help lift the level of competitiveness among members and visitors.

The Coffs Coast Jump Club also have some wonderful sponsors on board who have helped the club right from the start such as Coffs Harbour Produce, Horseland Coffs Harbour, Mitavite and Busway-Kempsey.

A number of local businesses have also come on board to help sponsor and support showjumping festivals which has enabled the club to offer great prize money which in turn has attracted competitors from further afield.

The next club day is on

September 17 and the club is now accepting entries online at nominate.com.au select equestrian, chose showjumping and look for Coffs Coast Show Jumping Club.

Competitors can also enter on the day.

The two day Spring Festival of Showjumping will be help over the weekend of October 21st and 22nd October.

There will be great prize money on offer and heights will range from 60cm to 1.25m.

Riding Pony Champion of Champions Show The Queensland Riding Pony Committee will be holding their Champion of Champions show on Saturday, September 16 on the Dressage Warm-Up Arena, Queensland State Equestrian Centre at Caboolture.

This show offers two events in one. In the morning, there will be a full senior show pony program for Led and ridden Show Pony, Show Hunter pony, Overheights, Leading Rein and First Ridden as well as home produced and newcommer classes Then in the afternoon, the committee will wind up the year with our Champion of Champion Ridden feature event.

The workout will be the RPSBS Show/Show Hunter Ridden Workouts and are only open to those that qualified by placing first or second at selected shows that include the 2016 SHCQ HOTY, 2017 Toowoomba Royal, Northern NSW Hack Championships, EQ HOTY, North Queensland Hack Championships, Queensland Country Hack Championships, Brisbane Royal, RPSBS State Stud Show and Beaudesert Show.

What’s happening NIMBIN SHOW The Nimbin Country Show had its beginnings in 1919 and is the first show in the North Coast show circuit. The 2017 show will be held on September 23 - 24 and is a traditional style agricultural show with horses, cattle, poultry, dog trials, arts, crafts, fruits, vegetables, and horticulture.

TLEC HACK SPORTING DRESSAGE DAY The Terranora Lakes Equestrian Club will hold an Open T-Shirt hack show & gymkhana on Sunday 3 September 2017 at the club grounds Bilambil Rd Bilambil.

Events will include Novice and Open show hack and Show hunter classes, and a beginner ring and then on completion of the Hack events the Dressage will begin along with fun events for all ages including bends, barrels keyhole, 3 mug race and more Cost for the day will be $25 which includes all classes and 1 dressage test.. additional dressage test will be $5.

We will be using recycled ribbons that have been donated back to the club so we can raise much need funds to go towards all the great improvements we have planned for the grounds like top dressing the show arena, the new sand arena and new jumping course.
