The holiday season in the Nation’s Oldest City, St. Augustine began with Nights of Lights. And there is even more for which to be grateful this year for the businesses and residents who have repeatedly bounced back after a challenging storm season.
“We reopened on Saturday with all but one exhibit intact…we thank our grounds crew and everyone who helped us to quickly and safely reopen the park,” said John Fraser, owner of Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth Archeological Park.
Charlie Robles, General Manager, The Collector Luxury Inn and Gardens said, “I will never cease to be amazed at the resiliency of St. Augustine. Within 24 hours after Nicole, the local hotels, shops and restaurants were up and running as if there was no storm at all!”
Nights of Lights has been listed among the top 10 holiday light displays in the world by National Geographic. During this festival of lights, downtown St. Augustine
glows with holiday magic – from the ground to the roof tops, millions of tiny white lights create a festive holiday season atmosphere in the Nation’s Oldest City, and it’s free of charge.
“We are grateful for the actions of the businesses and the city and county governments following the storm to make our destination ready for the Holiday Season,” said Richard Goldman, President & CEO of St. Augustine, Pon te Vedra & The Beaches Visitors and Convention Bureau.
Nearly all tourism businesses on Florida’s Historic Coast are fully operational. To make planning for visits to Florida’s Historic Coast, the St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra & The Beaches Visitors and Convention Bureau has pub lished a list of open businesses.

Sprawled across 1.5 tranquil acres at the base of the majestic San Jacinto Mountains is Casa Cody, Palm Springs’ longest-operating hotel and a timehonored oasis under the open skies of the Califor nia desert.
The story of Casa Cody begins in the early 1900s when Hollywood pioneer Harriet Cody—cousin of the illus trious William “Buffalo Bill” Cody—arrived in Palm Springs by wagon, settled on land and built a home with architect husband Harold Bryant Cody. By the 1920s, Casa Cody had become established as a hotel frequented by legends of the arts community including Charlie Chaplin, American opera singer Lawrence Tibbett and French-born novelist Anaïs Nin.
Newly revitalized under the management of Casetta Group, the secret garden-like Casa Cody has been brought forward in time with a modern aesthetic and the addition of lifestyle experiences, while retaining its enduring spirit,
romance and charm. Winding pathways surrounded by wild bougainvillea, native plantings, and fruit trees lead to the discovery of 30 rooms and suites within historic struc tures, including 4 freestanding cottages. No two accommo dations are exactly alike yet cohesive in design. Interiors are instilled with a rich palette of color and texture, guided by the old-world charm and opulence of Palm Springs along with the vibrant colors of coastal Spain and a mod ernist mindset.
Many rooms feature kitchenettes or full kitchens, private patios, and fireplaces. The quaint and cozy Harriet’s Cottage, one of Casa Cody’s most requested accommoda tions, radiates romance and feels like something from the pages of a storybook. Winter’s House is a spacious bun galow and original 1930s California Ranch House. The two-bedroom, one-bathroom Adobe House is a true adobe built in the early 1900s and one of a handful of remaining adobes documented in Palm Springs.

uxury travel is often associated with idea that’s a bit over the top with sometimes with an unwelcoming atmosphere.
The Esperanza Hotel of the Auberge Resorts collection is the complete opposite of these misconceptions people might have been accustomed to before. The hotel has a perfect balance of five star excellence, friendly and personable service.
If you’re into candlelit lanterns, gorgeous ca banas, tall swaying palms, outdoorfireplaces, and wooden swing sets by the beach this hotel might just be the perfect place for you. While the layout of the property is timless and spacious, it doesn’t feel like a colossal resort; the architecture and design are really magical.
The location is right on the beach and has cliffs surrounding it. Not only does Esperanza offer this cozy, romantic atmosphere, but this 30-year-old proper ty was renovated six years ago as a way to incorporate elements of modern luxury such as its beautifully heated infinity pools. They definitely hit the spot with that design element.
The rooms are perfect. Totally my vibe and we stayed in Spa Casita which is the room with the jacuzzi on the balcony overlooking the entire hotel and ocean. Highly recommend staying here. The room was INSANE.
At Esperanza, half the property is guestrooms and the other half are accommodations for long-term residents so the staff is able to provide award winning service and incredible attention to detail. The resort also offers a private beach that is inaccessible to the public due to the giant rock formations that surround the property. This quiet bay is slightly warmer than other beaches in the area, making
it a great place for a relaxing swim.
At Esperanza, the housekeeping staff takes customer service to the next level with plenty of sweet gestures and complimentary offerings. How they leave the rooms when you arrive and when they clean is impeccable. Something I hadn’t experienced before Esperanza. Another note to mention, when we arrived we were welcomed with a beau tiful cocktail and chips, salsa, and guacamole. A way to a girl’s heart.
Now that I brought up food let’s start talking about it. If you like to eat well, then again, this place is for you. There are several amazing restaurants on the property, but the most memorable is the Cocina del Mar.
This stunning restaurant is set high up between the rocks where guests can watch the bright moon and listen to the sound of waves crashing below. Its decor is to die for with warm lanterns lighting the two-story balcony where the table is adorned with candles making it a perfect ambi ance with whomever you may be with.
This is such a great place to come with your signifi cant other, your best friend, and even your family. The hotels have options for every kind of adventure and their spaciousrooms, top-rated amenities and their luxurious Mexican vibes just make it a perfectmemorable stay for everyone involved.
just returned from India, a land of great beauty, color, and activity. With 22 official languages, 29 states, 1.4 billion people, and more than 1,500 dialects, this South Asian nation is one of the most diverse and unique on the planet.
India is home to remarkable landmarks, breathtaking views, and an incredibly rich cultural heritage. From the beaches of Goa to the Taj Mahal, from the deserts of Rajasthan to the Konark Sun Temple, from the border with Tibet to the backwaters of Kerala, India inspires. And so does Nandlal.
Nandlal came to the city to make a life for himself when he was 16. Opportunity was scarce in his small, hometown village, so he had to leave it and his family behind.
He was 18 and washing cars for a few cents per day when Arun was first impressed by his work ethic. As a man of means and vision, Arun saw potential, offered Nandlal a job as his chauffer. He paid for his driving lessons, gave him a nickname, and then opened the door to the last job Nanduji would ever take.
In the nearly 50 years since that day, Nanduji has
served Arun and his family faithfully. He was there when Arun started new busi ness ventures. He was there when Arun got married. And he was there on that heartbreak ing day when they brought the baby home without her mother.
Through it all, Nan duji has served. If it needed retrieving, he went and got it. If it needed fixing, he fixed it.
If it needed to be found, Nanduji searched for it. And when Arun needed help with special projects like keeping a watchful eye on the daughter he loved so much, Nanduji never
failed him. He was there on the day Arun passed away. And he serves his family still.
My time in India left an im pression. Its culture and cuisine, natural beauty and monuments, temples and cathedrals—these are all things I will never forget.
But what moved me most were the people of India and their stories. The stories of need and sacrifice, of vision and hard work, of service, humility, and loyalty.
I’m sure Nanduji wouldn’t think his story noteworthy. But I took note. And I was honored to meet him.

Amphlett House, an elevated taphouse in Mel bourne’s CBD located on the corner of Little Bourke Street and Amphlett Lane, will open on 17 November 2022. The new venue will be spear headed by two of Australian hospitality’s finest, Andrea Gualdi (ex-Maybe Sammy, named ‘The Best Bar in Australasia 2021’ by ‘The World’s 50 Best Bars’) and celebrated Melburnian chef, Ian Curley.
Located in the heart of Melbourne’s restaurant and theatre district, Amphlett House will join the likes of Longrain, Hochi Mama, Grossi Grill and Florentino. The 120-seat taphouse will see exceptional drinks and elevated pub classics come together in a welcoming and upbeat atmosphere.
The beverage program will be led by Ovolo’s Creative Beverage Director, Andrea Gualdi. Gauldi has curated a drinks list that will tap into a new way of drinking, with a variety of tipples on tap including craft beers, wines and a unique selection of handcrafted cocktails using Australian ingredients. Amphlett House worked in partnership with a food scientist when creating the cocktail list, ensuring a completely sustainable and consistent product, with the same quality you would expect from Australia’s leading
bars. These cocktails are their interpretation of the iconic classic cocktails, and includes signatures such as the Wattle Seed Negroni, Finger Lime Daiquiri, and Eucalyp tus Smoked Margarita.
The beverage program has a strong focus on locally brewed, grown and sourced product; the beer selection will feature boutique Australian breweries, such as Bone head, Jetty Road, Young Henrys and Better Beer, with 75% of the wines coming from local producers. The first cocktail on tap will be Coffee & Orange Americano.
Andrea Gualdi said: “My background has been com pletely focused on cocktail bars, so I am thrilled with this unique opportunity. Our aim is to bring the same level of quality you’d find in Australia’s best bars to the drinks of fering at Amphlett House. We are lucky to have access to some incredibly progressive Australian and international producers, both in the alcoholic and non-alcoholic cat egories, and we look forward to showcasing quality, local produce in a welcoming setting.”
Alongside a unique way of drinking will be a menu of elevated pub classics by Ovolo’s Director of Kitchen Operations, Ian Curley, with support from head chef Ben Green (recently returned Executive Chef of Gather and
Gather, London).
Highlights from the menu include: smoked bone bar row on toast, with parsley and shallot salad; oysters with mignonette dressing and shaved horseradish; breaded chicken breast with Italian coleslaw; and fish and hand cut chips with peas, zucchini and yoghurt tartare. There will also be a selection of sides and bar snacks includ ing: chicken and leek terrine; salmon fish cake with cele riac remoulade; and hand cut fries.
Ian Curley said: “The food concept for Amphlett House will be elevated pub dining, with a classic menu highlight ing quality Victorian produce. I’ve loved this part of Mel bourne for many years and am looking forward to serving up humble fare with big flavours in the Paris end of town. There is nothing pretentious happening here - we welcome you to share a meal with family and friends or grab a quick bite with your better half.”
Amphlett House’s sophisticated yet fun interior has been executed by award-winning interior design and architecture studio, Luchetti Krelle. Interior designer and principal of Luchetti Krelle, Rachel Luchetti says, “We have relished the creative challenge of creating a sophisticated and stylish space that gives a nod to the building’s 80’s era. Memphis nostalgia was a perfect fit for this project, and we have interpreted this through injecting colour and energy in the classic Ovolo manner.”
The taphouse is the latest addition to boutique designer hotel collection Ovolo’s portfolio of cutting-edge food and drink offerings, and a move away from the unique restaurants and bars Ovolo is best known for. The taphouse will sit within designer hotel Laneways by Ovolo, with the launch coinciding with the hotel being reimagined and renamed to reflect its evolution.
