VMware – Enable enhanced Vmotion (EVC) in Virtual Center on HP BL/DL Servers Summary:

This document outlines the standard for enabling ehanced vmotion (EVC) in Vmware Infrastructure 3 (VI3) with update 4. This documentation assumes that the environment has been configured per data center standard and Jabil documentation. This document also assumes that you have Intel based processors and HP blade and server based hardware.

Requirement to enable EVC in Vmware Infrastructure 3: • • •

Hardware virtualization (AMD V or Intel VT) enabled AMD No Execute (NX) or Intel Execute Disable (XD) enabled All vm guests must be powered off to make the cluster change to enable EVC

Instructions:

1. Boot the server into the BIOS using F9. 2. Scroll to “Advanced Options” then “Processor Options” then enable: ◦ No-Execute Memory Protection ◦ Intel Virtualization Technology 3. Save the BIOS settings and reboot. 4. Log into Virtual Center and edit the setting of the cluster 5. Click Vmware EVC then Enable Intel Hosts option
