December 3, 2006 Dear Friend: Since our inception in October 2003, IMHO has funded medical and health care projects worth over US$ 500,000 in the wartorn and tsunami affected areas of Sri Lanka. In addition, we have transported over US$ 5 million worth of medical supplies and medications. All of our life saving activities would not be possible without the commitment and trust of our many caring supporters. Thank you! War and illness have a shared capacity to bring suffering to the most poorest and defenseless people of the NorthEast Sri Lanka. • Vaharai crisis: 40,000 people are internally displaced; People literally move every day due to military operations; Local hospitals are closed due to daily bombing and shelling; Primary health care centers and the mobile clinics conducted by our partners in Sri Lanka (Centre for Health Care , CHC) are the only medical service available to these poor people. • Jaffna situation: 600,000 people are trapped in the peninsula with little or no medication; No medications in the private sector due to the unofficial economic embargo; This has resulted in doubling of medication needs in the government sector while the supply is dramatically decreased due to A9 closure.
We need US$ 62,500 to meet the monthly needs of medication request for Jaffna and Vaharai. IMHO has already sent US$ 55,000 worth of supplies. We have developed a system to purchase medications in Colombo and transport them to the needed areas in the NorthEast. Our first shipments of medications have already reached the destinations through the help of ICRC. We hope that you will join our effort to improve the life of the less fortunate who we left behind. We sincerely thank you for your past support and hope you will consider another generous gift this year. We wish you and your family a safe, pleasant holiday season and New Year to come.
