Dear children, You will all be aware that the North and East of Sri Lanka, the areas from which your parents and grandparents are from, suffered very much over the last 25 years because of the recently finished civil war. There are many things that need to be improved, repaired and re-built in this area and our organization the International Medical Health Organization which has a number of doctors as volunteers is participating in making things better. We felt that you children would also like to help us in our efforts. There are a number of projects however; we felt that you might be particularly enthusiastic about projects that help the children in this area. All of you go to school and you know the value of a good education so I am sure you will agree with us that we should do what we can to provide good school facilities for all the unfortunate children in the North and East of Sri Lanka. A school called the Tharmapuram Maha Vidyalayam in North of Sri Lanka in a place called Kilinochi was damaged during the war and we are now trying to repair and re-build this school. As the first step we would like to construct a play area for these children that will include exercise bars, swings, a few see saws and build a good fence around this play area so that the children can play safely. So how are we going to raise the $1,000 required to make all of this happen? Well you are going to do it for us. We will be giving one small piggy bank to each of 100 children. When you pick up your piggy bank you or your parents will donate $5. The $500 that we will collect will be immediately sent to the school so that they can start the work on the play area. We would like you to fill your piggy bank with coins – please avoid pennies- you can ask your friends, family, take it with you to parties or to functions that you may attend and once you are done bring it back to us. We will send the money immediately to the school and publish your photo and one or two paragraphs about yourself in our website thanking you for your efforts in building a play area for these children. Not only will you have helped us to build a play area for these deserving children you will also encourage other kids in Canada and the US to come forward and help children in other parts of the world to have a better life. Thank you so much for your generosity and support, without which we cannot continue to change lives for the better around the world. - IMHO Canada Board 5637 Finch Avenue East, Unit 7, Scarborough, Ontario M1B 2T9, Canada www.IMHOCanada.org Tel: (416) 321-9555 Email: contact@imhocanada.org

International Medical Health Organization (IMHO) Canada A non-political, non-profit, humanitarian organization

About IMHO History The International Medical Health Organization (IMHO) is an international humanitarian organization that focuses on developing and improving health care in disadvantaged and needy regions worldwide. IMHO was founded in 2004 in the United States, by volunteers who recognized a desperate need in bringing health care to impoverished communities in lesser-developed regions. IMHO is a registered tax-exempt, 501(c)3 non-profit, charitable organization in the United States and a registered not-for-profit organization in Canada. Because IMHO is run by volunteers, very little of your donation goes to overhead expenses so that aid can reach the people who need help the most. Mission To develop and improve health care services and infrastructure in under-served regions worldwide. Vision IMHO aims to improve health care across the globe for those in need by identifying health needs and providing resources & training to address those needs. We believe in empowering communities to build their own health systems, improve overall health, and to respond to health needs as they arise. In this way, we promote selfreliance and sustainability. IMHO frequently partners with local and international non-governmental organizations to better channel assistance to needy populations and ensure that the money donated will reach those in need. Our work is focused on the following areas: 1) Primary Care & Public Health, 2) Health Education & Training, 3) Capacity-Building Founding Principles IMHO is founded on principles of humanitarianism and neutrality. IMHO chooses its areas of operation according to an objective needs-based analysis, and remains impartial in treating suffering communities in conflict situations. IMHO works to provide assistance during times of monumental suffering, such as the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004, Pakistan earthquake in 2005, Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and Burmese cyclone Nargis in 2008. This emergency relief work complements IMHO’s ongoing structural and capacity-building work to enhance health care opportunities and relief.

Northeast Sri Lanka Although we aim to improve health and treat suffering in areas around the world, our main focus is Northeast Sri Lanka, for which we have raised over 3 million dollars for various health initiatives, emergency relief, and education over the past 6 years. A significant number of our current projects focus on helping IDPs in Sri Lanka resettle and re-establish their lost livelihoods. We are accomplishing this through the following: 1) Amputee rehabilitation for the 30,000 civilians who have lost their limbs due to the war 2) Support for orphaned children through children’s homes 3) Medical mobile clinics for the sick and wounded 4) Mental health services for those traumatized by the war 5) Prenatal nutrition programs for malnourished pregnant women 6) Micro-credit programs to help civilians restart their livelihoods 7) Resettlement projects to help resettling IDPs rebuild their homes & many more What makes IMHO unique? • •

IMHO is strictly a non-political, non-religious, charitable, nonprofit committed to humanitarian principles. Using an extensive network of personal and professional contacts on the ground, we are able to deliver aid and work on development projects with great success, particularly in Sri Lanka. IMHO has very committed base of volunteers and supporters who share the organization’s vision and frequently get actively involved. As a grassroots organization and a willingness to commit time and energy, IMHO is extremely well-suited to deliver aid and to implement development projects in Sri Lanka, as evidenced by past accomplishments.
