WELCOME WELCOME TO the latest edition of Inside Line for the 2016 V8 Supercar Clipsal 500! This year we’ve changed the way we share our Doric and Cowdroy Racing programs with you. Bigger and better than ever before, we’ve teamed up with front-running V8 Supercar outfit Tekno Autosports for the 2016 season. We’re very proud of these changes to our 2016 program. After introducing ALG sister company Cowdroy to our motorsport program last year, we’ll again see significant Cowdroy branding on the outer livery of the #19 Holden Supercar. Doric branding will also feature on the inside of the racer and will be seen right around the world via the series extensive television coverage. We are also pleased to be able to continue our long relationship with V8 Supercar driver Will Davison, who will be behind the wheel of the Tekno entry this year. It’s great to have Will on board once again as our Doric brand ambassador for the sixth consecutive year. He is such a big part of our racing family and we look forward to standing beside him during this new venture at Tekno. We are also continuing our support of our longest running ambassador; motorsport legend John Bowe. We have supported JB in his current venture in

the Touring Car Masters series for many years and we are excited to watch him strive to back up his 2015 series win this year. JB is entertaining, engaging and a legend who continues to deliver value for the Doric business. ALG is proud of our various associations in motorsport, with the 2016 season marking Doric’s twelfth straight year delivering money can’t buy experiences for our valued clients and staff. Our sponsorships have taken our brand exposure to a new level and helped raise the professionalism and image of the Doric brand and we hope to continue this exposure for Cowdroy. Motorsport is competitive, exciting, passionate and innovative. We at Doric

and Cowdroy stand for all those values. We hope you enjoy the Clipsal 500 with Doric and Cowdroy and follow our racing adventures throughout the 2016 V8 Supercar Championship season. NIGEL LONG Group CEO, ALG

ORIC AND Cowdroy have a new brand marketing and customer activation program for 2016. Central to the 2016 program is an exciting new partnership with frontrunning V8 Supercar outfit Tekno Autosports, supporting its racing ventures throughout Australia, New Zealand and Asia. Parent company Alchin Long Group (ALG) will be building upon many years of loyal commitment to Doric Ambassador Will Davison, joining the star driver in his new role with Tekno

Autosports. Doric branding will feature throughout the inside of the #19 Holden V8 Supercar cabin and be seen widely via the series’ extensive Australia-wide television coverage. Cowdroy branding will also feature on the outer livery of the Tekno entry throughout the 2016 Championship season. Doric is excited to continue its longstanding relationship with racing star Will Davison in 2016, with the driver continuing his role as Brand Ambassador

for the 6th consecutive year. John Bowe will also continue into his 10th year as a Doric Ambassador contesting the Touring Car Masters series and is looking to back up his 2015 series win in his all-Aussie Holden SLR5000 Torana. “Doric and Cowdroy are excited about this new partnership and we are looking forward to continuing our active engagement with the series through our passionate customers and staff over the 2016 racing season,” said ALG Marketing Manager David Scoones.

COWDROY Energy usage and sustainability is a growing concern in Australia, but thankfully there are many new ways to reduce energy bills and help the environment in both new and existing homes.

A

WELL designed house needs very little energy to maintain a comfortable temperature. If your customer’s home is built with appropriate insulation, passive solar design and is weather sealed, it should require little to no energy for heating and cooling. Energy usage and sustainability is a growing concern in Australia, with home energy consumption a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Consequently, Australians are looking to reduce their energy consumption (as well as their rising energy bills). Heaters and coolers are major contributors to household energy use.

In 2005, they accounted for more than two fifths of household energy use and nearly 19 percent of residential sector greenhouse gas emissions. Almost eight in ten dwellings across Australia had a heater in 2008 and 39 percent of households nominated ‘comfort/ convenience’ as the main reason for their choice of heater. On average across Australia, 40 per cent of the energy used at home is for heating and cooling (not including heating hot water). Most homes will need heating or cooling at some time of the year due to Australia’s extreme seasons, although highly efficient, carefully designed homes can avoid the

need for additional heating and cooling appliances altogether. Building efficiency into the design Passive design helps maintain the interior temperature of a home using little or no mechanical heating and cooling and is the cheaper option. If your customers pay attention to the principles of good passive design suitable for their climate, this will lower heating and cooling bills, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions for the life span of their home. It can be built into a design, but if the house is already

standing, there are a number of ways to work it in. This may include shading windows, installing insulation and weather sealing. Even if your customer’s home is well insulated, heated or cooled air can leak in and out through gaps and cracks. Air leakage accounts for 15–25 per cent of winter heat loss in buildings. Sealing a home against air leaks is one of the simplest upgrades to increase comfort, while reducing energy bills and greenhouse gas emissions. Many Australians will only think to seal their homes before winter sets in, but air leaks are year-round issues. In winter, air leaks allow hot air to escape and unwanted external cold air to enter and in summer, the reverse occurs. Cowdroy weatherseal and door seal range Weather sealing a home is an easy and cheap way of reducing energy bills. It saves up to 25 per cent on heating and

cooling bills and is easy and affordable to implement — even for renters. Cowdroy’s weatherseal range may be integrated into any design, or fitted by the consumer to existing doors or windows. The easy-to-install range comes complete with fitting instructions and self-adhesive backing tape. The range is readily available in retail stores and is a cost-effective way to seal gaps and reduce energy bills. The range of weatherseals and gap fillers may also be fitted to jambs, faces or edges of most windows and doors. While Cowdroy’s Weatherseals range is suitable for sealing the door jambs, if your customers are looking for an effective seal at the base of the door, there is Cowdroy’s extensive range of door seals. The seals cater for a range of different door needs, eliminating lights, sounds, dust, rain, draughts and insects. Cowdroy’s door seals increase the energy efficiency of homes, ensuring it is kept cooler in summer, warmer in winter and saves on energy bills.

THE NUMBERS Heaters and coolers account for 40% of household energy use in Australia Households produce around 20% of Australia’s total greenhouse gas emissions Poor sealing accounts for 12 25% of winter heat loss in buildings

Window Protecting children from accidental falls: A look at Australian window safety requirements

E

ACH YEAR more than 50 children fall from windows or balconies in Australia with many of them suffering serious injuries. Unfortunately some of these falls even result in death. A majority of these falls occur in the children’s own home, especially over the warmer months when windows

and balcony doors are often left open. Typically, children aged between one and five are most at risk since they are more curious but lack the ability to recognise danger. As a result of these falls, by law owners corporations in NSW must have window safety devices installed on all

above ground windows by 13 March 2018. The National Construction Code (NCC), an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments (COAG), has incorporated all on-site building requirements into a single code. According to the NCC, manufacturers

are required to produce windows that meet mandatory minimum specifications under the Protection of openable windows section (3.9.2.5). To limit the risk of a child falling through an openable window, the NCC states that if the floor below the window in a bedroom is 2.0 m or more above the surface beneath and the lowest level of the window opening is less than 1.7 m above the floor, a restriction (device or screen) is required to: a) Restrict window openings to less than 125mm; to not permit a sphere of 125mm diameter to pass through the window opening or barrier screen;

Doric’s latest addition to the window restriction device range. The DS259 is designed specifically for use on residential double hung windows and is able to restrict both the top and bottom sashes from moving to a distance predetermined by the installer. All Australian window manufacturers must comply with the NCC regulation and must be able to verify compliance on request. A statement of compliance from Doric or any other hardware manufacturer is not sufficient to assume a pass. To achieve compliance there are self certification kits available from independent testing facility Azuma

To assist manufacturers meet these regulations, Doric provides a range of window restriction devices for awning, casement, double hung and sliding windows, suitable for both residential and commercial applications. An example product, the DS259 Double Hung Window Restrictor is

WITH AN increasing number of children being injured in falls from windows and balconies each year, window hardware manufacturers are urging home owners and builders to step up their efforts to curb the tragic accidents. TEKNO AUTO SPORTS Fresh, fierce and a force to be reckoned with, Tekno Autosports is the next big thing in V8 Supercars

I

N JUST four short years, Tekno Autosports has gone from a rookie race team to a front-running force. The popular team set up shop in the V8 Supercar Championship in 2011, but it’s roots run deep into the early 2000’s in grass roots motorsport. As team owner Jonathon Webb progressed from the junior ranks into the Australian Carrera Cup and the

second-tier V8 Supercar Championship (now known as the Dunlop Series) the Tekno brand became well known along pit lane. It was no surprise in 2010 when the family squad decided to step up to the main game, teaming up with Dick Johnson Racing to run their very own car in the V8 Supercar Championship. In 2011 Tekno stepped it up once

again, running the #19 Supercar under an independent team banner. 2012 saw the team extend to two cars as well as a new deal with Triple Eight Race Engineering to campaign their famous Holden racers under a customer agreement. By 2013 the team had truly found their feet, hiring young gun Shane Van Gisbergen to pilot the second entry alongside Jono Webb. The young Kiwi hit the ground running in 2013, scoring an incredible victory for the team in the first round of

the season at Adelaide. He backed up the performance with eight more wins and countless podiums over the next three years with the young squad. Such was the team’s success, Van Gisbergen also came in a close second in the 2014 V8 Championship. Now the team is stepping up once again, inking a deal with Will Davison to field the squad’s single car entry throughout the 2016 season. The experienced racer is a perfect fit with the exciting and innovative team, having amassed 17 wins and 50 podium finishes over his illustrious V8 career. The squad has also expanded it’s presence in the Australian motorsport scene, campaigning two McLaren GT cars in this year’s Bathurst 12 Hour, taking outright victory over many top international teams. At the heart of Tekno is its personnel. The squad has formed one of the tightest, most effective and inspirational organisations in the industry thanks to a constant drive and a rich winning culture. The team is made up of industry leading engineers and mechanics whose combined skills are driving the team to the top ranks of the sport. Not unlike its new partners Doric and Cowdroy, Tekno continues to climb the ladder of success by driving innovation and striving towards a bigger and better future.

ill Davison makes the big switch to front-running V8 Supercar squad Tekno Autosports in 2016. The 33-year-old continues his long relationship with ALG as a Doric Ambassador and will take the lead in the #19 Holden V8 Supercar. Stepping back into a top team this year, Will is looking forward to once again testing himself against the very best the category has to offer. The team came close to Championship glory in 2014 and you can bet Will has his eyes planted firmly at the top of the V8 Supercar ladder again in 2016.

JOHN BOWE J

OHN BOWE is back again in 2016, eager to defend his Touring Car Masters title crown. The Australian racing legend will again pilot the Holden SLR5000 Torana that took him to victory last year. “I’m really excited about going racing again,” said Bowe. “I know it’s a bit sad, but the break over the holidays is the worst time of my life because there’s no racing! 2016 is looking great. The category is in good shape, there will be some

new cars this year and there’s going to be some changes in the way we go racing. At each round, two races will count towards the championship, while the third will be a reverse grid trophy race. The reverse grid is great for spectators because there’s always a lot of action as the faster cars make their way through the field from the back. We haven’t run the Torana at Clipsal before so it should be really interesting. I’ve raced at Adelaide every year since 1985 in everything from V8 Su-

percars, Touring cars and GT. It’s a great event. As street tracks go, it’s good. It has a nice layout. But the city makes the event. The city and the people make it. It’s a party atmosphere and a great crowd that knows how to have a good time. It’s just a really good event. I’m as excited to race there this year as I was in ’85. I don’t feel weary or tired. I know I don’t look the same but I have the same energy and desire to do it.”
