Edition #68 / Adelaide 2019

WELCOME TO THE INSIDE LINE WELCOME TO the latest edition of Inside Line for the 2019 Adelaide 500. This year is a special one for us, as we celebrate 15 years in motorsport. We’re so proud of our committment to our motorsport program. Our various sponsorships have brought us and our closest friends together for well over a decade, and now we’re looking forward to sharing it with you again this weekend. Building on a very successful 2018 season, the Doric and Cowdroy racing programs continue again this year with Supercar star Will Davison, Australian Touring Car legend John Bowe, young gun Hunter McElrea and motorcycling great Troy Bayliss. Cowdroy was first introduced to our motorsport program in 2015, and since, has joined Doric with exposure right around the globe. We are pleased to be able to continue our long relationship with Supercar driver Will Davison, who you will see behind the wheel of the new #230 Ford Mustang for 23Red Racing this weekend. The introduction of the Mustang marks an exciting new chapter for the Supercar series and we can’t wait to watch Will be a part of that. 2019 marks Will’s ninth consecutive year as our Doric Ambassador. He is such a big part of our racing family and we’re proud to stand beside him as he continues to push to new heights. We are also continuing our support of our longest-running ambassador in 2019; motorsport legend John Bowe. JB has been a part of the Doric family for many years and is an integral piece of our motorsport program. It is always a thrill to watch JB on track in the Touring Car Masters. JB is entertaining, engaging and an absolute legend, who continues to deliver value for the Doric business. We’ll also be continuing our support of motorcycling legend Troy Bayliss in

the Australian Superbike Championship this year. Troy made a stellar comeback last year, and will no doubt be brilliant to watch on track again in 2019. This year we’re also backing young gun racer Hunter McElrea once again. Hunter had a very impressive season in Australian Formula Ford last year and has earned a place in the USF2000 series in America for the 2019 season. Our sponsorships have taken our brand exposure to a new level, helping raise the professionalism and image of both Doric and Cowdroy and delivering money can’t buy experiences for our valued clients and staff. Motorsport is competitive, exciting, passionate and innovative. The team here at Doric and Cowdroy stand for all the same great values. We hope you enjoy the Adelaide event with Doric and Cowdroy and continue to follow our racing adventures this year and into the future. NIGEL LONG CEO, Alchin Long Group

COMING IN

HOT DORIC AND COWDROY ARE BACK ON TRACK AND HAVE BIG PLANS FOR 2019 ON THE TARMAC.

DORIC AND Cowdroy are back in 2019, building upon its brand marketing and customer activation program in a series of motorsport partnerships around the globe. Central to the 2019 program is the continuation of the exciting partnerships with front-running Supercar star Will Davison, Touring Car legend John Bowe, young gun Hunter McElrea and motorcycle maestro Troy Bayliss. The program saw Doric and Cowdroy follow the racers’ ventures throughout Australia and New Zealand in 2018, and this year, McElrea will see that grow to include the USA. At the heart of the program, parent company Alchin Long Group (ALG) has been building upon many years of loyal commitment to Doric Ambassador Will Davison, joining the star driver at 23Red Racing. Davison will proudly display Doric branding on his helmet throughout the 2019 Supercar season, while Cowdroy branding is visable on the front of his Mustang, which will be seen widely

via the series’ extensive Australia-wide television coverage. John Bowe will also continue into his 12th year as a Doric Ambassador in 2019, contesting the Touring Car Masters series in his all-Aussie Holden SLR5000 Torana, which will sport Doric branding throughout the season. ALG has also continued supporting young gun Hunter McElrea, who will take on the 2019 USF2000 in the United States throughout 2018. McElrea is a true talent and a rising star and we’re proud to stand beside him this year as he takes on this new challenge. Doric has also thrown its support behind two-wheel racing ace, Troy Bayliss, who came out of retirement to chase a maiden Australian Superbike Championship title last year. Aboard a Doric-branded Ducati and racing for the factory-supported DesmoSport Ducati operation he coowns with former racer Ben Henry, Bayliss will be a force to be reckoned with on track this year.

BACK IN

BLACK : JOHN BOWE IN 2019 JOHN BOWE has become a staple of both the Doric Racing family and the Touring Car Masters Series, since joining the series in 2008. The legendary touring car racer has been a consistent front-runner, raising the bar over and over again. 2018 was no exception, with Bowe scoring a host of race wins, setting new records and claiming second in the championship standings. This year, JB is back again with a new look for his lightening-fast Holden SLR5000 Torana. Bowe will be racing the Torana in seven rounds of the series held right around the country. Coming off the back of a great performance in 2018, Bowe will certainly be one to watch over the weekend in Adelaide.

NY ESS : WILL DAVISON IN 2019

WILL DAVISON loves a challenge. Throughout his Supercars career, he’s faced plenty of new experiences to keep him on his toes. And in 2019, the racing star will have a special task in taking on a brand new car. Davison will be at the helm of one of six new Ford Mustangs in the Supercars Championship this year. The new addition to the Supercars paddock has been greatly anticipated coming into the season. And excitement has been bolstered by the stellar results from the official Phillip Island test day, where all six Mustangs clocked times in the top ten. After moving to join 23 Red Racing in 2018, Will recorded eight top ten finishes throughout the year, ending the season 15th in the championship; the top driver in a single-car operation. Now racing under the Tickford Racing umbrella for the 2019 season, this is shaping up to be a great year for the Doric racer.

BACK IN THE

SADDLE : TROY BAYLISS IN 2019 MOTORCYCLE RACING legend Troy Bayliss is back in the saddle for the 2019 Australian Superbike Championship with DesmoSport Ducati. Bayliss kicked off the season at Phillip Island last week and despite showing impressive speed, suffered a series of setbacks at the season opener. Setting a solid qualifying time of 1:32.759 with one broken finger at the Victorian circuit, Bayliss was well on-track for a solid performance. After leading the field in the early stages of race one, Bayliss suffered a devastating blow, ending up in the gravel trap and breaking another finger on his right hand. “That’s not the way I thought this season would start, that’s for sure, said Bayliss. “Breaking the little finger on my left hand wasn’t ideal, but I was able to ride with it. The team did a great job in rebuilding the bike after the second crash, and when I headed out for race two, I was confident I would be able to race and collect some points, even after confirming that I’d broken the end of my middle finger on my right hand. On the out-lap though, I just couldn’t pull the brake lever properly. I’m really disappointed, but I’m booked for surgery on Tuesday and I’ll be back, ready to ride for round two next month.” Bayliss flew the flag for Doric proudly last year and we can’t wait to see what the legendary racer does next.

HUNT ON THE

: HUNTER MCELREA IN 2019

KIWI YOUNG gun Hunter McElrea has bright future ahead of him. The 19-year-old was a force to be wreckoned with in the Australian Formula Ford Championship last year, taking clean sweeps of multiple rounds, accruing an incredible 13 race wins and the series title. So it’s little surprise to see the young racer snapping up the chance to test his mettle on the big stage in the United States in 2019. Late last year McElrea was chosen by a panel of judges as the winner of the Mazda Road to Indy USF2000 $200K Scholarship Shootout. Having earned a place in the US shootout through his series win in Australia, McElrea went up against 19 other drivers from around the world for the $200,000 prize in December. The two-day showdown saw drivers undergo a series of tests on and off the track in Arizona. McElrea’s triumph is also his ticket to compete in the USF2000 series this year. “I can’t believe it,” McElrea said, when named the scholarship winner. “This is definitely the most exciting opportunity that I have had in my racing career. I cannot thank Mazda and everyone enough for making this possible for me. The fact that I am going to be on the grid next year thanks to them is a dream come true. Doric was thrilled to stand beside McElrea in his 2018 title bid and can’t wait to see what this young racer does next.

2019 marks a historic milestone for ALG’s motorsport program. The coming season is the Aussie brand’s 15th year of involvement in Supercars and motorsport in Australia. Starting with a sponsorship program alongside Rupprecht Motorsport in 2004, our involvement has come a long way over the past 15 years. So this year we’ll be looking back at some of our favourite moments from the track over this time.

2019 FORD MUSTANG SUPERCAR : THAT WING :

One of the most talked about features of the new Mustang is the massive rear spoiler. : DEVELOPMENT :

Development of the Supercars Mustang has been led by DJR Team Penske in Queensland in cooperation with Ford Performance in the USA, Tickford Racing in Melbourne and Ford’s Melbourne design office.

: A FIRST :

The Mustang is the first twodoor to race in the current series. Previous generations were raced under different technical regualtions in the past, by stars such as Dick Johnson, Pete Geoghegan and Allan Moffat.

: PARITY PLAY :

The new Supercars entrant has undergone a series of thorough straight-line aerodynamic tests at Temora Airstrip in New South Wales. The Mustang was matched against a current model Holden ZB Commodore and a Nissan Altima, ensuring the new Ford is on par with the other models.

: ONE-OF-A-KIND :

The new Mustang has had to adapt to the official Supercars control chassis, which has meant a series of changes. Compared to the road-going Mustang, the roofline of the Supercar is higher to clear the roll cage, while the body has been lengthened to meet the required wheelbase.

: POWERPLANT :

Power comes from the same 473Kw 5.0-liter V-8 used in the Falcon race cars.

NEED TO KNOW :

THE INSIDE SCOOP

THE FORM BOOK THERE’S NO doubt that the biggest news over the off season has been the emergence of the new Ford Mustang Supercar. After a lot of speculation, the new pony finally had a chance to stretch its legs at the official test day earlier this month at Phillip Island. And it didn’t disappoint. In fact, six of the top ten times from the official test day belonged to Mustangs. With everything to prove and nothing to lose, these six cars will be putting it all on the line at Clipsal. And with drivers at the helm like reigning Champion Scott McLaughlin, Tickford Racing’s Chaz Mostert and our own Will Davison, the new Mustang is set to be a force to be wreckoned with. After wrapping up the season with the round win at Newcastle, but falling painstakingly short of the series title, Doric’s John Bowe will no doubt be one to watch at Clipsal this year. Keep an eye on JB’s regular competion Steven Johnson, Adam Bressington and Jason Gomersall. One of the best things about TCM is the variety of cars on the draw, so watch out for new blood coming up the ranks, too.

BEST VIEWPOINTS Clipsal doesn’t disappoint on the entertainment front, and the main straight offers great bang for buck if you can snag a spot. Otherwise the best viewipoints are on the outside of Turns 9, 10 and 11. Coming out of the infamous Turn 8, there are excellent views of the best overtaking opportunity on the track (Turn 9) to be had. On top of this, there’s easy access to merchandise and food stalls. This area also features at least one bigscreen, so you can catch the action from the rest of the track. THE FORECAST Clipsal is synonymous with sun, and this year looks like it will be no exception, with clear skies and warm temperatures across the board. However, the heavens have been known to open on occasion in the past, and this has serious consequences on the slippery street circuit. THE CIRCUIT A shortened version of the track created for the Australian F1 Grand Prix, the Adelaide Parklands circuit is unlike any other on the Supercars calendar. The track features some of the most famous corners in Australian motorsport, including the Senna Chicane, the big braking hairpin at Turn 9 and the infamous Turn 8 sweeper. STATS THAT MATTER The first Supercars race at the Adelaide Parklands was held in 1999 as the Sensational Adelaide 500, and was won by Craig Lowndes. Last year 273,500 fans flocked to the Adelaide Parklands over the Supercars race weekend. The Supercars grid combined produces in excess of 16,000hp.
