Over 200 Leading Edge Appliances and Electronics store representatives, along with epay and other strategic suppliers, converged on the Gold Coast’s RACV Royal Pines Resort in September for their annual conference. This year’s focus was ‘Challenge Change Opportunity’ – which ran central to the presentations and panel forums over the three days. HOW TO DO A TERMINAL REFUND
HOW TO REQUEST A REFUND
Using the Operator code that has refund authority enabled, follow these steps: - Have the voucher or POSA card and the corresponding epay POSA Activation receipt at hand. - Press the ‘Menu’ button. Enter Operator Code and press ‘Enter’. - Select 3 ‘Refund Transactions’ and choose the sale type. - Enter the ‘Serial Number’ printed on the e-voucher or ‘Swipe Card’ through the reader for the product being refunded. - Press ‘Enter’. Then enter the epay ‘Transaction Number‘ printed on the voucher/activation receipt. - Press ‘Enter’. It will then print out the refund receipt and return to the main menu. - Remember, refunding a voucher TXN from the terminal does not deactivate the voucher until it has been checked and blocked by the network. This could take several weeks. If the voucher is found to be used, the store will be recharged for the full TXN amount.
- Call epay customer service on 1300 301 408. - Please note, not all products can be refunded and will never be refunded if they have been used. Voucher - Retain the voucher processed at the terminal to quote the epay ‘Serial Number’. - epay Customer Service will advise whether the voucher is refundable. POSA (e-top-up) - Retain the POSA card and activation receipt printed at the terminal. - epay Customer Service will advise whether the card is refundable.

If the customer has purchased an incorrect voucher/POSA Card and the customer has not left the counter – you can attempt to process at your terminal or phone epay customer service to request a refund. If your refund is confirmed, the voucher PIN number should be crossed out and/or POSA Card + POSA Activation Receipt are to be kept in a safe place. If the product is redeemed before it is cancelled by the supplier, upon verification from the supplier, you will be re-charged for the transaction. If the customer is experiencing difficulties with the voucher PIN or unhappy with the prepaid product they have purchased – the customer must call the supplier’s customer service number printed on the voucher.

Contact epay customer service immediately as the voucher/POSA cards have a limited refund window. Retain copies of the voucher and/or POSA card + POSA Activation receipt until these have been cleared for refund by the network.

What are the keys to being a successful EzyMart retailer? The key to being successful is to have store operators who have their wallets in the business. Our EzyMart stores are typically not only owned, but also operated by the same person. This has always been the key to our success. We don’t focus on investors who live abroad that buy up 10-15 stores and put some workers in them. We look for partners who are ready to get their hands dirty in the store. These are the type of people who have the will to make their business a success. What has been the most significant change in retailing since you became involved in the industry? Fresh food and coffee offerings. Ten years ago I couldn’t imagine selling fresh coffee in my stores. However, it has become the key category for our growth. Customers no longer see convenience stores as milk bars – they have transformed into mini super markets. They expect to find fruits, sandwiches, salads, coffee and any other fresh food products. Why is 24 hour retailing important to your business? Our business relies heavily on impulse buys. Customers usually come into our stores because they prefer a quick buy as opposed to going to the larger retailers. In addition, we service heavy foot traffic sites, especially near hotels and tourist areas. We need to be the place they can go to, when other places are closed. Which epay products prove most popular in EzyMart stores? Opal of course is our strongest product. We average about $6000 a week in sales per store. Other than Opal, our telco top ups and activation cards are most popular. Especially since we service tourist areas, our telco category is always growing. How do epay products benefit EzyMart stores? epay is a multi-channel system that allows many services to be done through one portal. It benefits our stores because there is no true cost involved. FRAUD ALERT Being wary of possible fraud is the best defence against your business becoming a victim. Potential signs of suspect activity pertinent to your business can include a customer’s EFTPOS card not being present, they manually enter their card number or no card is swiped through the terminal. To combat fraudulent behaviour always ensure you and all your staff follow these steps:
• Never provide your five digit sales code to anyone or let them operate your terminal alone • e pay will never conduct a live transaction in your store or ask you to do so in person or over the phone • Ensure the customer has paid in full before processing the payment • Do not give vouchers to the customer until you are satisfied the full valid payment has been received • Never give out voucher numbers over the phone, even if the caller claims to be from epay 26

• If you do get asked to do any of these listed examples, or suspect any sort of fraudulent behaviour, report it immediately to epay customer service on: 1300 301 408

To ensure your sales are matching your reports, make sure you regularly run reports through your epay terminal. Reports available include:
• Shift Totals – if your store runs across multiple shifts, you can produce reports for each shift by selecting this option. Ensure your shift is closed by selecting ‘End Shift’.
• Does your store regularly sell more than $1500 in gross sales per week? • Does your site have internet connectivity? • Is the internet router located at the front counter near your epay terminal? • Is there an available port on the back of the router? • Does your firewall allow outbound connectivity?
• Day Totals – if you need a running report of sales since the last report was closed, this function will deliver this. It can also be printed throughout the day without closing it off. • Operator Totals – keep track of your individual operator totals and also incorporate KPIs and staff incentives with this function. It’s strongly recommended only a manager or senior staff request these reports.
