By their very nature, accessories are not the main affair. For spring 2021, clothing is hewing functional, beautiful, and exuberant, favoring comfortable silhouettes over the irony and/or escapism the industry once celebrated. The role of quirky costar falls to the season’s shoes, bags, hats, and wraps.

D REPORT Courtesy: Vogue
It’s an exciting proposition, and a freeing one, because in truth, you don’t really need any accessories this season. But you will still want them. Liberated from functionality, logic, or ideas of what makes something “essential,” this season’s plus-ones share a sense of irreverence and levity. For our feet, there are soft and silly slippers from Molly Goddard and Balenciaga or gigantic boots from Rick Owens and Paco Rabanne. Our bags might be homespun knotted sacs from Simone Rocha or Valentino, or maybe they will be slim, fussfree phone cases like those shown at Versace and Coach. There are plenty of new face masks from Collina Strada and Anna Sui, and for the very dramatic, bold hats like Burberry’s sou’wester and Marine Serre’s chapeau-cumplastic face shield. The most salient accessories of the season might be the survivalist ones: Water bottles, camping-style bags and packs, and different modes of transport, like bikes and boards. We’re definitely going somewhere...maybe the devil-horned hats at Maximilian and Givenchy are a sign of where. Might as well look great for the journey!

Slipper Shoes The most popular shoes of quar have not been stilettos, pumps, sandals, or sneakers. They are Birkenstocks, Crocs, and now that the weather is turning cool again, Uggs. A comfortable, antifashion shoe is proving to be spring 2021’s most bankable proposition. Molly Goddard collaborated with Ugg on her shaggy slip-ons; at Louis Vuitton Nicolas Ghesquière turned a quilted ski boot into a fashion statement, and at Balenciaga Demna Gvasalia added kitten heels to logo slipper slides.

Market Totes and Straw Bags The best carryall for spring 2021 is humble and handmade. Anna Sui crafted her knit bags from recycled cotton T-shirts, while Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli sent out a shoulder bag in macramé leather. Hold the Phone Phone cases and lanyards are the granny chains of the forgetful, promising that you’ll never lose your phone somewhere between the kitchen, bedroom, and living room again—and that when you leave the house you have the number one accessory of the 21st century safely with you. Only one question: How quickly can new sizes of these cases go into production now that Apple has announced a mini iPhone?

Shoes for Stomping In The award for throwing caution—and logic!—to the wind this season, at least in regards to footwear, is a three-way tie between Rick Owens, Nicolas Ghesquière at Louis Vuitton, and Julien Dossena at Paco Rabanne. Together, the designers sent out some of the most unusual shoes of the season; Owens extended his platform boots to the hip, Ghesquière designed a platform clog with elastic strap, and Dossena propped up ankle boots on thin wire frames. Maybe there is a purpose to these strangely satisfying shoes? With nowhere to walk, a teetering high heel or clunky platform makes shuffling through your home a little more exciting.

Over-the-Top Toppers Cristobal Balenciaga’s 1967 single seam wedding dress seems like a good idea for right now, an expression of concision and ingenuity shown with a dramatic curved hat meant to act as the look’s veil. That hat was first resurrected at the Balenciaga maison circa 2012. Fast-forward almost a decade, and the hat is making a second comeback at Burberry, Françoise, and Marine Serre (Serre’s wisely doubles as a face shield).

Status Toe The internet lost its mind over Matthew Williams’s three-prong sandals at Givenchy. The shoe, a nod to a similar style designed by Lee Alexander McQueen for the brand in 1997, was styled in the look book by Lotta Volkova with tights, turning models’ feet into something more like paws. But Givenchy’s creative team isn’t the only one advocating for tights-andsandals—or the only one that singles out some toes. Emilio Pucci and Khaite tried it out too. Will you?

The pandemic has largely paused the travel missing on the coveted beach vacation. Be it a calm stretch of sand, or a family-friendly se-facing resort, or vanquishing the waves, there are plethora of options out there to suit every type of traveller. Here are some of the world’s best beaches you cannot wait to return to or visit. Sea and oceans can be soothing, calm, and for it is even an addiction but in a good way. Beaches are one of the best holiday destinations for those who love sea, water, and the vision of the tropics. Ocean and salty water are not just it, but it is an inspiration and sometimes also a way of meditations. Many of us even develop a special relationship with the sea. Beaches are about sipping coconut drinks, reading a book in a palm’s shadow, relaxing on a hammock, discovering underwater life, surfing, attempting new water sports, listening closely to the ocean or the sea and more.

My expedition It has been, well I can say, modest so far. I started working with Dad in his business right after school, but we had to wrap up the business. After taking up a job in a call center in Mumbai, I moved to the ‘City of dreams’ along with my family which includes my father, mother, brother, and two sisters.
“I have learnt to laugh in tough times. Although my early years were protected, I realized while growing up that difficult times don’t last. Huge credit goes to my parents who taught us to respect money and value life. My childhood has shaped me today in a better possible way.”
My acting debut As an actor, my journey has been experiential. I have had the opportunity to work with great talent so far and opted for roles I believe in. So far so good. My first movie was a Telugu movie, ‘Paathshala.’ It was a chance audition in Mumbai at Juhu Beach where the director took my audition through a phone cam. The experience was difficult as the movie went on for 10 months, in very tough production circumstances, which set my pace in the industry as an actor. I am currently working on the second season of Asur and Ashram. The other lined-up projects are a series and a movie that are yet to be formalised.

They are elegant and bold, and I love that about the brand the most. Her stardom has given her optimism and she has learnt the art of soaking in every moment that makes her grow in life. A good scene on a good day is something that satisfies her. Acting is her love and passion and love to continue having such experiences.
We all know an actor’s life is always hectic and long and busy schedule, but Anupria makes an exception here and makes it a point to take some time out from work and keep an hour or two just for herself, family, and friends. The legacy of Antwerp’s more than 570 years of Diamond Heritage and the rich diamond history of India, came together with the launch of the Authenticity Jewellery Report at Mumbai, India aimed at the traditional and authentic Polki jewellery. Traditional handcrafted Polki jewellery inspired by flora, fauna, and architectural elements since 1526, has its roots firmly embedded in India. HRD Antwerp will only issue the report for Polki jewellery containing 100 per cent natural diamonds with no treatments. HRD Antwerp’s USP for the authenticity report is ‘Your Blueprint of Assurance’, thus creating an added level of confidence for consumers purchasing these timeless creations. Ellen Joncheere - CEO, HRD Antwerp, stated it was essential for HRD Antwerp to bring additional value to these timeless jewels. Noted guests also included Amar Ghanasingh Hemdev - Owner, AG Jewellery, Kamlesh Hemdev – Director, Ghanasingh Fine Jewels and noted influencer Prernaa Makhariaa – StylePrer. The Authenticity Jewellery Report captures the essence of Polki or uncut diamonds mounted in jewellery – notably their natural origin. Unlike polished diamonds, which have the 4Cs mentioned in HRD Antwerp’s Natural Diamond Grading Report, the Authenticity Report will identify the uncut mounted diamonds’ nature. Every single stone will be thoroughly screened and checked for its natural origin.
Farah Khan Ali emphasized on the importance of having such a report for Polki jewellery which would uplift consumers’ confidence when they purchase jewellery. Pierre-Emmanuel Brusselmans stated India is the main market for Polki jewellery and it will enhance the buying experience of Indian brides. Jayant Kulkarni stated this report will place India on the world map for its jewellery quality, designs, and manufacturing techniques. Sanjay Shah noted that he is confident that this new product will surely address the needs of the industry.

My father was a first-generation entrepreneur, and he has always supported his daughters’ education at every step. Alwar is a small town but had an army base and industries. Meghna is not the one to go with the flow and strives to stand above average. She is the one who questions, but without sounding aggressive or disrespectful.
An entrepreneur by accident… I wanted to be an investment banker after pursuing my MBA in Finance from IMT Ghaziabad. However, the recession following the 9/11 attacks in the US halted my plans, and I ended up not having many lucrative job offers. It was during this point in time that I was contemplating an idea for my entrepreneurial venture and started my professional journey at the age of 25 and I cofounded HirePro Consulting along with Rishi Das.

Luxury to me… I am a type of person who values comfort more than the brand and hence I have traditionally not been a brand conscious person. Anything which is comfortable, and which suits the occasion I go by that. I love watches but I hardly use them. To name a few I have Omega, Carl F Bucherer, Tag Heuer, Hermes amongst others.
Beyond business… Prioritization is the key. During weekdays work is given priority and at weekends family and friends takes over. Nothing is coming at expense of others.
Reading… I make sure that I read whenever I find the time. Yoval Noah is my favourite and the most inspired author. His writings are a blend of various themes including free will, consciousness, intelligence, happiness, and suffering. I find his writings fascinating.

Travelling… Any trip with my friends and family is memorable. Though I loved New Zealand that is blessed with perfect landscapes from fiery volcanoes and gushing glaciers to pristine lakes, sharp mountain ranges and Sunkissed beaches. I also loved travelling to some parts of Europe owing to their natural beauty, epic history, and magical atmosphere.

The 2021 Oscars, in its 93rd year, the Academy Awards is Hollywood’s biggest night, both A-list nominees and presenters are bound to make an appearance, including Andra Day, Vanessa Kirby, Carey Mulligan, Viola Davis, and Frances McDormand. Better yet, all of these celebrities will be walking the red carpet before the show in their finest evening attire. This awards season has proven to be an extremely glamorous one despite COVID-19 restrictions and some virtual ceremonies, with the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, and SAG Awards presenting stellar fashion moments. But it is no secret that stylists always save their best gowns for last. After all, the Academy Awards have a history of producing some of the most memorable gowns in Hollywood history: Just take Billy Porter’s Internetbreaking Christian Siriano dress in 2019, or Jennifer Lawrence’s Dior Couture gown in 2013, when she famously tripped going up the steps while accepting her awards.
