The story captivated a nation. A mother accused of murdering her child, her claim – that the baby was taken by a dingo – denied and discredited by zealous police and a flawed legal system. The media circus, the rumours, the nation’s prejudices laid bare. Over three decades, from baby Azaria’s death to the final coroner’s report, the public wrote more than 20,000 letters to Lindy Chamberlain. From sympathy to abuse, letters from children and letters from those who have lost a child, these letters traverse the gamut of human response to Lindy’s story.

|  PAGE 16

Letters to Lindy draws on this correspondence, as well as extensive interviews with Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton herself, to create an enthralling, moving, and long overdue dialogue between Lindy and the nation.

THE PUNCHLINES KEEP ROLLING IN. Those indefatigable kings of comedy, sorcerers of satire and masters of mockery, Jonathan Biggins and Drew Forsythe are back in the saddle and gearing up for another glorious year of political satire – the laughs will be bigger than ever. Brutus is suspicious. Cassius is conspiring. Caesar’s days are numbered. Loved by the people, Caesar’s power is growing – which is dangerous if you live in a world driven by ego and idealism. Those that rise too fast must be dealt with. For the good of the country. For the good of those who wish to be rulers themselves.

Bell Shakespeare’s Associate Director, James Evans, will direct a production that’s seething with rage, leaving audiences breathless at how quickly violence reveals the fragility of democracy. Experience the tension between aspiration and ambition, the triumphal entrances and brutal exits, as it is all laid on the line for Rome.

FOUR-COLOURSEASON PRODUCED BY The Song Company

An atmospheric journey from Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons to new Australian music. An evergreen selection of song and brand-new Indigenous dance to match the patterns and movement of the many Australian seasons. The traditional four seasons of Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter have been depicted in European art and music for centuries, but the Aboriginal experience of the seasons is a much more varied and subtler story that tells of the patterns of animal and plant life and their direct impact on survival. In this sympathetic synthesis of two artforms The Song Company is joined by a duo of dancers from The Thomas E.S. Kelly Project to trace the course of the Earth’s annual journey in movement and song, both old and new. The program includes arrangements from Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons and music ranging from Alice Chance’s Pallah-Pallah to Francis Poulenc’s Un soir de neige.

It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge. ALBERT EINSTEIN

MUSIC

At The Joan’s Penrith Conservatorium of Music we live this philosophy and firmly believe in lifelong learning, beginning in early childhood. Our suite of Music for Toddlers sessions awaken joy and creative expression in children from 12 months of age in a play-based environment. The Conservatorium’s course structure enables children to progress through the levels of learning, right through to professional standard, or to just keep going for the enjoyment of it!

Our studioQ acting courses are tailored across age groups from 5 to 18 years, and we also run courses for people with disabilities. Beginning with fun exercises and creative play our professional tutors lead participants on a journey exploring the fundamentals of acting, storytelling, voice and movement; setting them on a pathway that can continue all the way to a career in the performance industry – or for the fun and great experience of learning wonderful creative and confidence-building skills that can be applied to all areas of life.

SCHOOL HOLIDAY WORKSHOPS

WHO WE ARE

Penrith Performing & Visual Arts represents a diverse and dynamic blend of creative practice in the Western Sydney region. Since our establishment back in 2006 we’ve worked to showcase creativity in all its forms to help improve people’s lives and make Penrith a great place to live, work and play. Our education programs guide people from all ages and stages through their chosen artistic pathways – from those seeking mainstage fame and excellence in their chosen artform, to those wanting to further a personal passion. As an entity established to offer cultural entertainment, enjoyment and education for our local community, Penrith Performing & Visual Arts offers more than just the performing and visual arts – it offers a vision of a creative Penrith for the whole community. Our venues are just the beginning:

JOAN SUTHERLAND PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE

A superb venue presenting the best in music, theatre and dance, The Joan is also home to Penrith Conservatorium of Music, which provides quality music education for students of all ages and abilities; and Q Theatre, which provides theatre training to young people aged 5-18, and people with a disability, as well as making innovative and community-focused performances, building on the substantial legacy of the Q Theatre Company.

PENRITH REGIONAL GALLERY & THE LEWERS BEQUEST

Penrith Regional Gallery & The Lewers Bequest is set on the western bank of the Nepean River at the foot of the Blue Mountains at Emu Plains, and was established in 1981 at the former home and property of sculptor Gerald Lewers and painter Margo Lewers. Each year tens of thousands of visitors delight in the Gallery’s dynamic exhibitions, events, education programs, splendid gardens and café. Within our beautiful heritage setting we aim to develop and maintain a visual arts centre of excellence and diversity for the enjoyment and benefit of the people of Penrith, the surrounding region and beyond.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Thank you to the community that supports us: from the local coffee shops that keep us going on those crazy mornings to our partners, donors and sponsors, from the parents who drive their children to our venue for concerts and lessons to the teachers who seek us out for the creative education of their students. To our audiences and the artists – both central to everything we do – we are grateful to make and share the work of Penrith Performing & Visual Arts with you. None of this would be possible without our dedicated, go-the-extra-mile staff, working to bring the best creative and learning experiences to the people of Penrith and beyond. This year Q Theatre is in residence at Dig Space in Penrith, with many thanks to Karen Harris at Penrith City Council who worked hard to establish this creative hub.
