The official publication of UP Advertising Core
It’s that time of the year again when AdCore warmly welcomes applicants (fondly called “future members”) into the small, but cozy AdHouse. As such, we decided to make this year’s first internal issue something relatable to both mems and future mems alike. We loosely themed the entire issue around the concept of “the AdCore experience”. To future mems, this issue is meant to be a preview of future attractions—a quick insider into AdCore culture. To the mems, this issue tries to capture all there is to love about this org from the core values to the online shenanigans. Whether you’re a mem or future mem, we hope that you find something distinctly AdCore to smile about within the pages. Happy holidays!

We all have our own stories to share about why we joined AdCore. While to others it is a dream to be part of this org, to some it is an unexpected decision. But the great part is that although we have different reasons for joining, we all have learned to love the org and have chosen to stay with it. To know these stories, we asked a few AdCore mems to give us some words on why they joined and why they stayed in AdCore. While some of the responses we got were very heartwarming, we also received ones that cracked us up with their silly reasons. Well, we cannot be surprised. This is AdCore, always full of wit! AdCore is home to so many supportive people. Carlos Quimpo
As with every semester, AdCore strives to bring to the table a cluster of value-adding projects and various opportunities. These all aim to enrich the knowledge of the members and applicants and help them become experts in the field of advertising. Last semester was truly unforgettable, what with the launching of #TatakAdCore as the year-long direction and the ever-growing number of AdCore aspirants. Mems and apps from last sem were asked straight to the point what the most important lesson they’ve learned was. Here’s what they said in 140 characters or less.
Although some things don’t go your way, just keep moving forward, learn from your experiences, and ultimately grow as a person. Sylvie Reyes
There’s always something new! From new projects to new members, AdCore always has something different and exciting in store every sem!
I learned that leaps of faith plus lots of hard work can lead to some very amazing things.

On the fourth and fifth weeks of November, AdCore opened its doors for the most-awaited batch 8.2 application. This sem, the org managed to secure standees (instead of the usual tarpaulins) featuring three past ExeCore members with corresponding core values: Dana So (Inspired Involvement), Nikko Pascua (Creative Professionalism), and Jedo Enriquez (Steadfast Excellence). In the course of the Recruitment and Reaffirmation week, Steffi Solis and her friends allegedly decided to dress up the standees using random wigs and other photobooth props. After she shared a photo of the vandalized standees on Facebook, the post immediately reached up to 113 likes. Comment after comment popped up, garnering different types of reactions. Most were surprised at how Nikko and Jedo were transformed into girls and found the post funny. Some people were amused by Jedo’s long hair.
photo from blogs . elcomercio . pe
Nikko, meanwhile, was the butt of the jokes. Among the AdCore mems, it has been a long-standing joke that Nikko’s hair made him look feminine. Along with this new bow, people affirmed his beauty all the more.
Steffi Solis posted yet another photo, with Nikko wearing both the wig and the bow.
Only Dana So escaped unharmed. Because her standee was not vandalized, all she received were positive comments.
Interestingly, Jedo did not react to the incident, but Nikko has a lot to say about how he felt after seeing the pictures.
This goes to show that AdCore develops a very close bond among the members, so close that these kinds of things are understood to be done out of good faith. The org has more than a formidable and professional exterior; it also nurtures a sense of family within. Maisie Joven

adhack virus
Here in AdCore, we brand everything we do. And just like everyone, we also enjoy online pranking. But we do not just prank – we do AdHacks!
AdHack, n. is the act of using an AdCore mem’s Facebook account without his permission to post anything attention-grabbing — could be shameful, truthful, or simply surprising. For you to understand better, in the non-AdCore world, it’s simply called hacking. Many must have experienced or heard of someone who has experienced such a thing already. It could be after you logged in at a friend's house, or when you left your smartphone in your friend's hands. So what makes AdHack any different? If in the other cases you opted to delete every trace of damage your “friend” has done to your personal account right after learning about it, AdHack has a no-delete rule, meaning that an AdHack post will be there on your timeline FOREVER, for your friends, friends of friends, or the public to see. Can you just imagine the shame? This thing is permanent! How did this whole thing begin? After doing some research, we found out that AdHacks existed long before it was called as such. The first AdHack we were able to find was from Owa Seguin’s timeline, which he assumed was a post written by Flash Ubiña and Klo Loreto.
But of course because it was so much fun, the AdHack virus kept spreading, and more and more were victimized, leaving them with their dignities tarnished and reputations ruined.

Up to this day, the virus keeps on spreading, and everyone is prone to getting hit. So next time you log in your Facebook account, remember to check where you are and who you're with. And after using it, always think twice before you leave your device: shall you trust your vigilance and leave it logged in, or shall you submit to fear and log out?

JEDO ENRIQUEZ
LARGER THAN LIFE Through the years, UP Advertising Core has witnessed the rise of legendary leaders and presidents who took the organization to greater heights. This year, that man is Jedo Enriquez. Name: Joe Drigo Enriquez Age: 20 Year and Course: V BS Business Administration and Accountancy AdCore batch: 5.2
One look at Jedo’s resume and you’ll be overwhelmed. From being part of last year’s winning team in the PANA IMC students’ competition to maintaining his Oblation Scholarship, Jedo is a perfect example of an overachiever. Balancing his responsibilities as the president of UP AdCore with the difficult academic workload of a graduating BS BAA
First position(s) in AdCore: Creatives manager for AdDition and University Job Fair 2012 Jedo trivia: He was the student who uploaded Ma’am Winnie Monsod’s “final lecture” on YouTube, which went viral and led to Jedo being interviewed by GMA7. Michael Jackson inspired Jedo to dance. When the King of Pop died in 2009, Jedo became a fan. Impressed by the King of Pop’s footwork, Jedo taught himself how to dance in fourth year high school. Thus, the awesome Jedo dances were born.
student plus having a successful love life is definitely no joke. “I don’t have free time at all!” he admits. So how does he do everything? The answer is time management. “Naghahanap ako ng tools online para mas maging efficient [with my time],” Jedo says. “For example, I use this app called Do It [to create] a comprehensive to-do list in my iPad. I can organize tasks by due dates and highlight them according to priority.” This enables him to accomplish everything within 24 hours. We all know him as the president of ExeCore Gr8 now, but how did Jedo’s AdCore journey start? His first touchpoint with UP AdCore was Yesthursday, a UP Fair night in 2010, back when he was still a sophomore. This eventually led to him joining AdCore as part of batch 5.2. “[I applied because] mahilig ako sa promotions. And ang ganda ng logo ng AdCore.” However, AdCore was not his first org. He was already part of two other orgs prior to that, but it was here that he chose to stay. “Sa iba kong orgs, masaya naman. Pero nakulangan ako kasi I was looking for something more professional and would give me more exposure. And sa una kong projects sa AdCore (UJF 2012 and AdDition), si Gelo [Avendaño] and Dana pa yung AVPs ko. They were both very systematic and my teams accomplished a lot of things. As a person, I guess mas importante sa ‘kin yung training that I get kaya nag stay ako sa AdCore.”
In the summer between sophomore and

experience with this type of work.
Siyempre, you supervise. Pero aside from supervising, you make sure na nangyayari lahat according to schedule. At the end of the day, isang tao lang naman ang AVP, so kailangan may higher authority na magp-prod sa kanya. Ako rin yung nagse-set ng ExeCore meetings, and nag-i-initiate ng mga [activities such as the creation of the] Constitution, brand manifesto, and brainstorming for the yearlong direction. Pero throughout the sem, more on supervising talaga.” More than just the details on the presidential job, Jedo shares with us his vision for AdCore. “I see it as an organization that never stops dreaming, and has members with the unassailable will to create a new
Finally, Jedo acknowledges the impact AdCore has had in his life. When asked about the improvements AdCore brought about in his personality, he thinks hard. “Andami talaga,” he laughs. But he says the biggest change he sees in himself is in terms of his self-confidence. “Kung nakilala niyo lang ako noong second year ako! Kulang ako sa confidence. Tahimik lang ako, [yung type na] pang-filler lang sa class. Dati nga sa first case ko sa BA101, assumptions na nga lang irereport ko tapos nagstutter pa ako. Meron na akong kodigo pero nagstutter pa rin ako.
Pero because of AdCore, na-boost ang confidence ko. [First time ko kasi] maka-interact ng people outside my college. Tapos first time ko rin makipagwork sa mga kliyente. Parang, ‘Uy, mas malaki na yung scale ng mga ginagawa ko’. Malayo talaga narating ng confidence ko.”

one-man creative powerhouse by Isabela Cruz
Who exactly is Jan Erl Angelo Rosal? It’s hard not to ask the question when his name comes up fairly often in conversations, more often than not for a variety of different things. There’s the Angelo Rosal who comes up with crazy good concepts and creative executions. Then there’s the Angelo who offers great strategy and insights. And still, there’s the Angelo who can actually follow through with his own ideas and execute them himself. It’s hard to believe that everyone is really just talking about one person—may they call him Jan,
Now on his 5th year as a BAA student, Angelo says he doesn’t usually have free time. “Free time for me (or us Termies) is study time. But in earlier years, I go out to watch movies (sometimes alone haha) or just sit and listen to music.” He says. He manages to juggle his toxic academic work load, and org commitments with proper scheduling. “Set more immediate concerns as priorities but always have that ultimate goal to never leave out anything you’ve committed to fulfill.”

“Narinig Ko Sa UP” or “Overheard” has become so phenomenal that every UP student knows about its existence. It is no wonder that posting or being mentioned in Overheard is included in the bucket list of most UP students. Overheard has also penetrated UP AdCore. Here are some overheard at the tambayan conversations that feature not only jokes, love, despair, “hugots”, but a lot more.
