Shaquita Janeese McKinney was born on June 8, 1993, in Fairbanks, Alaska, and transitioned on March 14, 2025. She was the beloved wife of Otis McKinney and the cherished daughter of Ione Fuller and Andre’ Williams.
Shaquita was a remarkably intelligent and compassionate woman, who was dedicated to serving others. She was a proud member of the Beta Alpha Psi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. As a committed professional, she worked at Fleet and Family Services as well as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline through United Way, offering unwavering support to those in need.
She was a distinguished graduate of Joliet Junior College and Western Illinois University, where she earned an Associate of Arts degree and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, both with high honors. Shaquita was furthering her passion for advocacy and social work by pursuing a Master’s degree in Social Work at Florida State University. As a dedicated social worker, she tirelessly advocated for the well-being of others, providing guidance, support, and hope to countless individuals and families. Her kindness, empathy, and determination left an unforgettable mark on her community, inspiring others to continue the mission of justice and care that she held so dearly. Though she is no longer with us, her legacy of love and service will live on in the lives she touched.
Shaquita is survived by her devoted husband, Otis McKinney, and their beloved children, Malachi and Paisley McKinney. She also leaves behind her loving parents, Ione Anderson and Andre’ Williams; her brothers, Kasimeir Smith, Anthony Anderson Jr., and Shakwquan Nelson; and her sisters, Aalasia Williams and Timeka Houston. She was a cherished granddaughter to her maternal grandparents, The Reverend Dr. Janeese Page-Byers and James Fuller Jr., and her paternal grandparents, Johnny and Elizabeth Williams.
She will be deeply missed by her extended family, including her uncles, James Fuller III, Anthony Williams, and Alex Williams; and her aunt, Amelia Bridges (Hansel Bridges). Shaquita was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Ione E. Davis, Mary Fuller, and James Fuller Sr.; her mother-in-law, Vanessa Houston; her father-in-law, Willie Frank McKinney; her great-aunt, Lila Mae Ruffin; her cousins, Jamal and Kimberly Gibson; and her niece and nephew, Carlos and Samiya Houston.
Shaquita leaves behind a host of family, friends, and loved ones whose lives were forever enriched by her warmth and generosity. Her light will continue to shine through all who had the privilege of knowing her.
