A New Frontier Building? Is it True?
Does the building look familiar? It’s the former “Greater Detroit Hospital”.
There were rumors of Frontier Academy trying to expand its campus since 2007. But it first appeared in the Detroit Free Press. After spending hours on Google, I narrowed it down to one article. It turns out that the building used to be an abandoned hospital and adjacent medical plaza will become home to a public charter
school, medical offices and an assisted living facility over the next three years. Midwest Creative Investments will spend $18 million to renovate the Greater Detroit Hospital complex and Carpenter Medical Plaza, the Free Press reported. Mohamad Issa, one of five brothers who own the company, told the Free Press that their firm bought the property in 2006 and will open a school on site in 2010. The new school is an expansion of The Frontier Academy in Hamtramck and, like the Hamtramck program, will offer instruction in both English and Arabic, the Free Press reported. "What we're doing, there's a need for it," He told the Free Press. The

project will receive more than $2.2 million in Brownfield grants for asbestos removal and other work. In addition to the school, plans call for a senior assisted living facility to open by 2012, the report said. A pharmacy and other current occupants of the medical plaza will be moved into the hospital building. Hamtramck school officials feared the new school would drain away more students.

School News & Events A Sad Departure, Bye Ms. Wouczyna As we all know, one of the best teachers we ever had, or would have had, Ms. Wouczyna has left to move on in life. Her last day was on the Friday before break during December. Her replacement is Ms. Jennifer Carlson. She

Middle School Victory By Habeb Ghaleb The game was a good one. The team one 44 to 22. We squashed them… LITTERALLY PEOPLE! We all played together fairly, and won with grace. On behalf of the team (Habib, Ibrahim, Morad, Abud, Wisan, Tameem, Muho, Mujeeb, and others), we would like to thank Ms. Jensen for coming to the game and supporting us with her cheers. This marks another major achievement in the history of our school, but its not over yet.
As we all know, many of the students here at Frontier Academy don't like the lunch that is being served, or are unfamiliar of the food. Last month the students had Basmati Rice (a long fragrant type of rice) with Chicken. One student claims that Bridge Academy had the same lunch the day before, and Frontier got the leftovers. That may be funny, but it isn't true. The truth is that the school cannot afford such foods because the government has lowered school funding in

AAYSP Visits Frontier (From AAYSP.com) On the 16th of December, the American Association of Yemeni Scientists and Professionals held an educational workshop at Frontier High School, Hamtramck in coordination with the 21st Century Program sponsored by ACCESS. The workshop was attended by a large number of students from the school and the 21st Century program, teachers and administrators. Adel Mozip, President of the AAYSP Michigan Chapter spoke to students about the importance of higher education and a college degree. He then went to explain how he went through high school and college given that he was a newcomer to the U.S. when he started college. Adel stressed the importance of finishing education since it’s the only way to change one’s lives to the better. Adel then explained how to discover colleges, scholarships, and financial aid. Michigan. But that doesn't mean we can’t try new items on the lunch calendar (and by the way, the lunch calendars can be picked up in front of the office). Students last year complained about the cold and flat Pizza from Little Caesars, so the school got the lunch from another Pizzeria. In 2008 the students complained about the French Toast Bread with Syrup on Thursdays because it seemed more like a breakfast item than something for lunch. There has be a drastic change in the lunch menu since 2005 when the school first opened up. The school now has new
breakfast items like the “Apple G-Walnut” bar, and “Smart Choice Whole Grain Blueberry Muffins”. The Cooks work very hard to serve more than 250 students a day, and it is very hard to do all that serving, cleaning, and cooking. Student Government will inquire students what kind of food they like. It can’t be Caviar or Braciole (Italian flat-stake), but something like Spaghetti and meatballs instead of Spaghetti and meat sauce. If you are unfamiliar of the lunch items, give it a try, but if you have allergies to any ingredient used, grab an alternate lunch like PB&J.

Got Green Thumbs? (Not Literally) The Green Buddies want you to stay green in every possible way at school and home. Here are some Green Ideas so you can have an eco– friendly life-style:
-Switch to compact fluorescent from regular incandescent bulbs and use 60 percent less energy per bulb and save 300 pounds of C02 a year.
-Switch to a laptop instead of using a desktop computer and cut three-quarters off your electrical use. Turn off the laptop at the end of the day.
-Switch to cold water washing and save 80 percent on energy used for laundry and save an estimated $60 a year. Hang dry your clothes instead of using the dryer and save 700 pounds of C02 a year.
-Turn off the lights when you aren’t using them and reduce your direct lighting energy use by 45 percent. Stop using heat-producing halogen lamps
-And MOST important of all, keep recycling. Don’t throw away old homework and pass outs, recycle them in the classroom. There's a recycle bin in each classroom for use.
Star Struck. Drama Club The new addition to the afterschool programs for students at Frontier, is the Drama Club. The Drama Club is held every Thursday afterschool from 3:15 to 4:30 with Ms. Davidson and alongside, Mr. Huddleston. Ms. Davidson has many years of experience in the Performing Arts. She was in Drama Club since her freshmen year at her old high school, and has been to many famous plays. She has been to Broadway to see a few plays, and even studied the arts. There are only 4 students in the club so far, but they hope to get more. The club have learned many new things like stage direction, the “Fourth Wall” , controlling the Diaphragm, creating emotions, improvising, and even practice projecting their tone of voice. If you would like to join the Drama Club, then see Ms. Davidson or Mr. Huddleston before or afterschool, or even during transition time and ask for a permission slip. Hope to see you there!
What is a Student Government A SG or Student Government is a curricular or extra -curricular activity for students within grade schools around the world. Present in most public and private K12 school systems across the United States and Canada, these bodies are alternatively entitled student council, student government, Associated Student Body, Student Activity Council, Student Council Association or S.C.A. Student councils often serve to engage students in learning about democracy and leadership. A Student Council is a repre-
sentative structure for students only, through which they can become involved in the affairs of the school, working in partnership with school management, staff and parents for the benefit of the school and its students. The student government here at Frontier as been in operation since 2005, and officers are elected every school year.

Question: What do I do if one of my friends are jealous of me? I don't want them to be jealous! Every time I buy something new, he gets something a few days later and rubs it in my face. What should I do? Advice: Well, if your friend is jealous and you notice it, try to do your best of hiding it. It is in us to go out and buy something just like our friends because it looks good or so. But that’s okay, were all humans. Sometimes it is fun when someone has something just like you. So don’t even sweat it. Just be happy :) and keep buying whatever you want. And if this does not help you, than I am sorry..
Sometimes It Hurts By Asma Albadani I know sometimes it hurts that you want to give it all up and don't want to live through it. It's so hard, you think its not worth it. You think no one cares about you. But know that I WILL ALWAYS be there. Even if I am not next to you, I'll still be in your heart. Just Stay Strong! 'Cuz You don't need to go through it ALONE. You will always have me! To All My Friends By Shima Miah We might be best friends one year, Pretty good friends the next year, And then we don't talk often the following year. And eventually, we never talked at all the next year after that. And I just wanted to say, You are so special to me and have made a difference in my life. Even if I never talk to you again for the rest of my life, I look up to you, respect you, and truley cherish you. Remember, someday.... Everyone needs a friend.

Advice: It looks like you’re in a bad situation. What you need to do is to tell the teacher you know the material and ask for the work she would be assigning for the class. That way you would be busy, and not interrupting class when other students are learning. Otherwise, keep on paying attention. Who knows, you might learn something you never knew before.
The 3 Musketeers’ Answers
Question: Dear 3 Musketeers, I am having trouble paying attention in class because all the teacher ever does is talking. I get A’s on all tests and assignments, and she teaches things that I already know. She over-explains things, and that makes me want to ignore some stuff she says, and then she takes away behavior points. What should I do? Anonymous.

Leaving You By Ahmed Almasmary Leaving you will be so hard, I know that we'll be scared. I hurts me inside, to know that you will confide. ...In someone who isn't me, trying to be like me. but they will never be anything like me. I'll always be there for you, and you know its true. Everyone one will see that you are a part of me. You are my baby and my best friend. And It will be like that 'till the end… locked up tight. Even our stupid fights, the laughs, the tears, the cries, and the tears built up through the years. I'll never let us be apart. And remember...You will always be in my heart.
