A Message from Dr. Rashid Hello Frontier family Student Government: Congratulations to all of the newly elected Student Government executives at Frontier International Academy. The election process was quite exciting to all students and staff. Thanks to Mr. Ayers., Mr. Trerice and Ms. DeGasperis for guiding our students and the staff through this great democratic process. I am pleased to see that the school year has been going well for the Frontier family. I am very excited to see our brand new student government taking the initiative in publishing their first newsletter. Newsletter is an important vehicle through which the student government can keep the student body involved in and informed about the student activities in and around the school. I hope the student government will maintain frequent communication with the Frontier family through the newsletter. When you have great ideas and thoughts about improving our school culture and academics, please feel free to share those with me. In order to achieve excellence in education, I am here to
work with all our stakeholders in every positive way possible. The more ideas and suggestions for improvement we receive from you, the better it is for all of us at Frontier. I always believe in challenging the status quo. It is my firm belief that with all our collaborative and quality work we will have a better year this year than the last. We are looking for the full participation of the entire community in the education of our students. Remember, quality performance is the key to success. Good luck in your studies, and smooth functioning of the government. Have a great Fall Semester! Dr. Harun Rashid

Letter From the Editor Today is the new beginning of The Frontier Times. This newsletter will include sports, upcoming events, the principal’s letter, birthdays, and elections. Some of you may be wondering what this has to do with your life? To begin with, The Frontier Times will be given school wide and will have essential information that deals with student lives. The most important thing is that you, the students, will give your ideas and contributions to the newspaper, if you wish. Trust me- your input will be greatly appreciated. Remember, everyone starts small. Today The Frontier Times tomorrow, The New York Times. -Shakiera Ibrahim
Student Life at FIA As a student at Frontier International Academy from sixth grade (Fall of 2005) and as junior in present day, I have seen Frontier have its ups and downs. When the school was in its first year, the classrooms were packed. The only classrooms that were being occupied were the ones on the first floor, and the ones in the basement. The second floor was locked shut. The first computer teacher had been Mr. Ahmed, a teacher who is now at Bridge Academy. After he taught a semester of computers, Ms. Talukdar (who is also in Bridge Academy now) had taken over, Mr. Ahmed’s class (who became the high school math teacher, and the first computers had been installed in the school. The first Vice principal of the school was Mr. Grearson. The first two administrative assistants (in the office) were Ms. Mouna and Ms. Cindy. History and Geography class was first tought by Ms. Adamczack. The middle school math was taught by Ms. Carnick (who had left to Hanley international Academy), and the first art teacher was Ms. Ericsson. The first science teacher was Ms. Tackett. Up to this day, the last original teacher who had left the school is Ms. Tackett. Then it would've been Mr. Sadek, who had left the school in the beginning of October. Frontier has gone through many changes in the interior. During the school year of 2007, the school had opened the second floor, but the only classrooms that were being used were the ESL Room, English Rooms, ACT Prep room, and the History room. All classrooms after Mr. Ayers and Ms. Gasinski’s room had been blocked off by a wall in the middle of the hallway. The only thing that had stayed the same since the beginning of the school is the Principal, Dr. Rashid. After June of 2012, the year that I would graduate, I predict the school will go through some dramatic change. Have you ever thought about graduating from the school, and coming back years later to find all your teachers old, and everything changed? –By Mohammed Razon
MR. AYERS: Watch out for Student Government! The 2010-2011 Student Government is working to be a strong voice in our community. We will continue to listen to the student body and do our best to advocate for them. We will plan in-school activities that enrich the educational experience of students. We will offer opportunities for students to grow as people and make the most of their situation. We will continue to grow our fund raising campaigns to make the lives of everyone around us better. We will do all of this with pride and dedication. Make sure to keep your eyes and ears open so you don't miss out on any of the upcoming events or activities! Interviewed by: Brianna Hosey -
Sports: Introducing the Frontier Knights Soccer team! This is the first year that Frontier Academy has ever had a soccer team. Since the beginning of the soccer season, our team is a winning team. The Knights are dominating other teams one by one. Read in next month for a special interview with the captain of the soccer team. Lets hope that these devoted players keep up the good work!
POLL: Who is your favorite teacher? Why? Is this person’s class easy or hard. Is he or she a good teacher? Do you like the material that is being taught? Write your answer on a piece of paper and turn it in to Mrs. DeGasperis.
