Hi, my name is Steve Taggart and I have been interested in the Paranormal for many years. I decided to join a local paranormal group, which took my path towards starting my own back in 2007. And with the help of some enthusiastic friends, the UK Shadow Seekers was born. And the Rest as They Say is History …

Olfactory Paranormal Phenomena (OPP) One of the things you may experience is OPP. This is commonly known as a Perfume Ghost, which means smells you wouldn’t expect to get in an old empty building or even ones that are still being used Things like cigarette or cigar smoke. Now this is something that you shouldn’t get seeing as there has been a smoking ban in the UK since 1st July 2007 therefore, after 5 years, any residual smoke smells should have evaporated by now. When this happens, check that the smell is not someone with you that smokes and then try to pinpoint where the smell is coming from? Keep in mind that it may not linger for long and could mean that a Spirit is near. Ghost Odours come in all varieties and can include Floral Scents The most commonly reported odour associated with Spirits is the smell of fresh flowers. Rose, Lilac, and Jasmine, three distinctly different aromas, that are said to be attributed to the Spirit of those who have recently passed. Sometimes a floral scent can be connected to a loved one with a particular fondness for certain flowers instead of someone who just crossed over. The same can be said of a particular perfume although from a sensitive’s point of view not always the case; one of our team members always smelt Parma Violets when there was a female Spirit nearby. This smell is normally associated with older ladies, and reminded him of his Grandmother. So if you smell something familiar when you’re at home, it could mean that you have a loved one watching over you. But on a Ghost Hunt, like our team member, although not his own Grandmother, it could have been a Grandmother figure he was sensing. Sometimes the smell you get can lead you to the profession of the Spirit Spirits can display very unique scents that were closely connected with them in life. These Connection Scents can include cigar or pipe smoke, a special perfume or cologne, brewing coffee and cooking foods.

Issue 7 Dec. – Jan. 15

It is also thought that specifically the departed to let loved ones know that they are near in times of joy or pain uses these odours. And these are said to be Positive Scents. Negative scents would be the odours of mildew, rotten eggs or sulphur and rotting foods, which are often reported where unhappy or unfriendly Spirits are believed to reside. Though not all Perfume Ghosts are sweet smelling. In fact one smell that is associated with an entity is not thought to be that of a Ghost at all, but a so called Demon. (However, it’s worth remembering that most people would not have worn any fragrance or perfume until very recently – so I could simply be bad body odour) Many (American) Demonologists will tell you that the smell of sulphur is a big hint to vacate the area. As with Many Things in this Field though, There is Nothing Definite.

Here are some paranormal events companies offering you the chance to experience ghost hunting for yourself. (Click on the image to visit the site)

GROUNDING & PSYCHIC PROTECTION One of the most important rituals for my work as a Reiki Master and Clairvoyant Medium is Grounding and Psychic Protection. In brief, it is a vital way of protecting our physical body whilst endeavouring to live a spiritual life. In my line of work it is imperative that I ground and put a psychic shield around myself so I am not drained by negative energies from either the spirit world, or certain people on the earth plane. Grounding and psychic protection is not only good practice for Mediums or healers. It is something that everyone should get used to doing as a way of keeping their feet firmly on the ground and protecting their personal aura. I am passionate about helping those who need some spiritual guidance but it amazes me how many people have never heard of grounding and psychic protection. Clients will approach me as they need to know why they are feeling ‘unbalanced’ and/or lethargic not to mention dealing with emotional trauma. A lot of the stories are the same – they feel as if they are going around in circles, their head is full of clutter and they feel totally disconnected, as if they are not in control of their own lives. Once I teach them how to use such a simple spiritual tool, they start to feel centred and focused so they can enjoy inner harmony and make positive decisions about their lives. Feelings of being ungrounded:           

Drained/tired – as if ‘your get up and go’, has ‘got up and gone’ Emotional for no particular reason Depressed Feelings of anger towards yourself or others Anxiousness & worry Feeling nauseas Feeling spaced out Holding onto the past A feeling of ‘Not belonging’ Cluttered in mind and surroundings Feeling generally unhealthy/unwell

Feelings of being grounded:         

Energised A sense of wellbeing inside and out Strength and self-acceptance Belief in your abilities Love for oneself and others Spiritually aware Focused in body and mind The attainment of a spiritual way of life A feeling of a natural state of balance 10

How to perform grounding and psychic protection The best time to perform your grounding ritual is first thing in the morning. That way, you will be protected for the rest of the day. As a spiritual worker I will often carry out the ritual again at night as it helps to promote a good night’s sleep. A great crystal to hold whilst doing this is a Black Tourmaline which is a powerful grounding stone. It protects against negativity and fear, and cleanses one’s auric field helping to balance the chakras and promote a positive mindset. First of all, make sure you are in a quiet peaceful place. Close your eyes and concentrate on your breathing. Grounding - If you are holding onto any negative energies or worry bring it down through your body from your crown chakra (top of your head) and out through the soles of your feet and into the earth. Once you have done this, you are ready to ground, by connecting yourself to the core of the earth. In order to do this, simply imagine growing thick and sturdy tree roots from the soles of your feet and send them right down until they link with mother earth. You may feel a slight ‘pull’ or ‘tug’ which will confirm that you are anchored. Protection – Imagine a ball of energy over the top of your head which opens and sends a beautiful ethereal white light down through your body. Then bring that white light up again and around the outside of your body so you are totally cocooned in a protective bubble of light. Cloak – Sometimes I feel the need for ‘double protection’ especially when doing spirit rescue work so over the white light that I have already put around myself, I will visualise wearing a large purple (spiritual fulfilment) cloak which reaches the ground. It has long sleeves and a large hood which I pull up so I am covered from head to toe in my protective shield. Mirrors - If you feel that someone is sending you negative energy which is sometimes referred to as ‘psychic attack’, you can carry out this effective psychic exercise whilst holding your black tourmaline crystal which will help to deflect against dark energies. After you have grounded and wrapped yourself in white light, imagine surrounding yourself with mirrors which face outwards. This creates a protective barrier and if anything negative or fearful has been sent your way, it will rebound back into the Universe where it will dispel naturally. BIO - ALISON WYNNE-RYDER Alison Wynne-Ryder is a Clairvoyant Medium of international fame whose extraordinary abilities bring comfort and guidance to her many clients worldwide. Her book ‘The Quirky Medium has been published and is receiving excellent reviews globally.

The Darker Side of Christmas by Susanne Taggart When we think of December, we think of the pending Christmas cheer that arrives with seasons of good will, family get-togethers, children's laughter and presents under the tree. But if you are child in Germany, Austria, and other parts of the Alps region, there may be something much more dark, mischievous, and grumpy hidden in the shadows next to dear old St. Nick. Most of us have seen or read the story by Dr. Seuss, about the reclusive green Grinch who decides to ruin Christmas for the cheery citizens of Whoville. A story you all think, but there are other sinister characters that try to ruin the festive period for children. On the evening of 5 December, Krampus Night or Krampusnacht, the wicked hairy devil appears on the streets. Sometimes accompanying St Nicholas and sometimes on his own, Krampus visits homes and businesses. A beast-like creature appearing in many variations, and comes around with loud bells and terrorising the kids who have been naughty during the year. He is hairy, usually brown or black, and has the cloven hooves and horns of a goat. His long-pointed tongue lolls out. While Santa gives the good ones gifts and joy, Krampus gives the bad ones beatings with a whip (made from birch sticks and horsehair) and nightmares. As for the really, really naughty kids, Krampus drops them in a sack (or a wicker basket on his back) and whisks them away to his lair – which is of course the underworld – never to be seen again. So how did this mythological beast come to be a part of this region’s Christmas tradition? High up in the Alp countries of Europe is where Krampus was born, or, more accurately, where the legend was created. The word “Krampus” is derived from the Old High German word krampen, meaning “claw.” According to Norse mythology, Krampus is the son of Hel, the goddess ruler of the underworld. There are also a few physical similarities between Krampus and Greek mythical creatures – like the horns and hoofs of satyrs and fauns. Scholars estimate that Krampus started appearing around the 13th century, if not earlier – perhaps in the 11th century. Originating in Southern Germany and Austria (the area known as Bavaria), the creature moved to other European countries such as Switzerland, Czech Republic, Hungary, and even the Alp villages of Italy, sometimes with variations on the name and practiced customs. For example, in Tyrol (a state in western Austria), Krampus tends to look like a giant, sadistic, teddy bear. In western Germany, he actually arrives with Santa, sitting shotgun in his sleigh. In Styria (southeast Austria), the birch sticks used for his whip are painted gold and displayed year around, to remind kids of Krampus’s impending arrival.

Some Other Legendary Monsters of Christmas Jólakötturinn - The Yule Cat is a monster from Icelandic folklore, a huge and vicious cat said to lurk about the snowy countryside during Christmas time and eat people who have not received any new clothes to wear before Christmas Eve. The Yule Cat has become associated with other figures from Icelandic folklore as the house pet of the giantess Grýla and her sons, the Yule Lads. Frau Perchta - In Germany and Austria, a witch who hands out both rewards and punishments during the 12 days of Christmas (December 25 through Epiphany on January 6). Hans Trapp is another "anti-Santa" who hands out punishment to bad children in the Alsace and Lorraine regions of France. The legend says that Trapp was a real man, a rich, greedy, and evil man, who worshiped Satan and was excommunicated from the Catholic church. Other lesser-known holiday figures include northern Germany’s Knecht Ruprecht, who carries a bag of ashes and beats kids with it who don’t know how to pray properly. Or, more notoriously, Zwarte Peter, translated to “Black Peter.” Zwarte Peter is St. Nick’s trusty companion whose job it is to amuse the children and give out candy. Belsnickel is a male character from southwestern German lore who traveled to the United States and survives in Pennsylvania Dutch customs. He comes to children sometime before Christmas, wearing tattered old clothing and raggedy fur. Belsnickel carries a switch to frighten children and candy to reward them for good behavior. In modern visits, the switch is only used for noise, and to warn children they still have time to be good before Christmas. Then all the children get candy, if they are polite about it the way they've been told. Source: Various

Founded in 1862, The Ghost Club is the oldest organisation in the world associated with psychical research. Its prime interest is that of paranormal phenomena associated with ghosts and hauntings. The club has its roots in Cambridge when in 1855 fellows at Trinity College began to discuss ghosts and psychic phenomena. Formally launched in London in 1862 (attracting some light hearted ridicule in "The Times"), it counted amongst its early members Charles Dickens and Cambridge academics and clergymen. This group undertook practical investigations of spiritualist phenomena, which was then much in vogue and would meet and discuss ghostly subjects. The Ghost Club seems to have dissolved in the 1870s following the death of Dickens but it was relaunched in 1882 simultaneously with the Society for Psychical Research (SPR) with whom there was an initial overlap of members. The Ghost Club was revived on All Saints Day 1882 by A.A.Watts and a famous contemporary medium, the Reverend Stainton Moses. Whilst the SPR was a body devoted to scientific study the Club remained a selective and secretive organisation of convinced believers for whom psychic phenomena were an established fact. Stainton Moses resigned from the vice presidency of the SPR in 1886 and thereafter devoted himself to the Club which met monthly, with attendance being considered obligatory except for the most pressing reasons. Membership was small - 82 members over 54 years - but during this period the Club attracted some of the most original - and controversial minds in psychical research, serving almost as a place of refuge for those who were unable to pursue activities elsewhere. These included Sir William Crookes who attracted scandal after investigation into Florence Cook, a medium. At this stage of its existence the Ghost Club might possibly be viewed as a Victorian occult or spiritualist society celebrating November 2nd, the feast of All Souls. The archives of the Club reveal that the names of members - both living and dead were solemnly recited each November 2nd. Each individual, living or dead, was recognised as still being a member of the Club. On more than one occasion deceased members were believed to have made their presence felt! On the eartly plane, meetings discussed topics as diverse as Egyptian magic and second sight. The Principal of Jesus College, Cambridge, Arthur Grey was later to fictionalise the Ghost Club in 1919 as "The Everlasting Club" of Jesus College - a famous Cambridge ghost story that many still believe to be true. Into this circle the poet W.B.Yeats (joined 1911) and later Frederick Bligh Bond (joined 1925) who became infamous with his obsessive investigations into spiritualism at Glastonbury. Bligh Bond later left the country and later became active in the American Society for Psychical Research and was ordained into the Old Catholic Church, rejoining the Ghost Club on his return to Britain in 1935. However. at the Ghost Club attendance dwindled and the change in the 20th century from seance room investigation to laboratory based research meant that the Ghost Club was becoming out of touch with contemporary psychic research or parapsychology as it became known in the 1930s. Harry Price, world famous in the 1930s as a psychic researcher and for his investigation into Borley Rectory joined as a member in 1927 as did psychologist Dr.Nandor Fodor who represented the changing approach to psychical research taking place. With attendance falling, Price, Bligh Bond and a handful of surviving members agreed to wind up the Club in 1936 after 485 meetings, and this took place on November 2 nd 1936. 15

The Ghost Club records narrowly escaped being destroyed because of their confidential nature but were deposited in the British Museum under the proviso that they would be closed until 1962. However these events proved only a temporary suspension for within 18 months Price had relaunched the Ghost Club as a society dining event where psychic researchers and mediums delivered after dinner talks. Among members in this period were Dr.C.E.M.Joad, Sir Julian Huxley and Kathleen Goldney. Following Price's death in 1948 activities lapsed but the Club was again relaunched by members of the committee, Philip Paul and Peter Underwood. From 1962 author Peter Underwood served as President and many account of Club activities are found in his books. Tom Perrott joined the club in 1967 and served as Chairman from 1971 to 1993. In 1993, however, the club underwent a period of internal disruption. Peter Underwood left to become Life President of another society, taking some of the club members with him. During this period, Tom Perrott resigned due to the political turmoil, but was invited to return to the Ghost Club as chairman, which he accepted. With this turmoil behind the club, it was decided to implement a more democratic feel to proceedings, to abolish the "invite only" clause in its membership policy, to absorb the role of Chairman and President into one post, and to allow 'ordinary' members to have their say in council meetings, and encouraging them to become more involved in club affairs. During this period the Ghost Club also expanded its remit to take in the study of UFOs, dowsing, cryptozoology, etc. In 1998, Perrott resigned as Chairman (although he is still active in club affairs), and barrister Alan Murdie was elected as his successor. Kathy Gearing replaced Alan Murdie as Chairman in 2005. Since its founding in 1862, the Ghost Club has welcomed many luminaries to its membership. The list includes Charles Dickens, Sir William Crookes, Air Chief Marshall Lord Dowding, Arthur Koestler, Dr.C.E.M.Joad, Donald Campbell, Sir Julian Huxley, Sir Osbert Sitwell, W.B.Yeats, Sigfreid Sassoon, Dennis Wheatley, Dennis Bardens and Peter Cushing. Present members include the explorer and founder of Operations "Drake" and "Raleigh" Colonel John Blashford-Snell, OBE, and noted paranormal investigators Maurice Grosse, John and Anne Spencer and Reverend Lionel Fanthorpe, as well as author Lynn Picknett . A previous chairman of the Ghost Club was W.T.G. (Tom) Perrott, a life member of the club and an eminent figure in the field of psychical research.

Nestled in the Warwick countryside is the beautiful Neo-gothic mansion house; Ettington Park Hall. Originally built in 17th century, the mansion is now a popular hotel. Prior to its conversion to a commercial premises it was the county home of the Ferrers family, who later moved their seat to Shirley, Derbyshire. According to Alice Dryden’s “Memorials of Old Warwickshire”. (1908) “Sir Ralph Shirley leased the manor in 1509 to John and Agnes Underhill, for a term of 80 years. His son, Francis, made another lease for a term of 100 years to the same family in 1541, the lease ending in 1641. During Francis Shirley's time the manor house may have been rebuilt, or at least modernised. The lease of Ettington came to an end in 1641 in the lifetime of Sir Charles Shirley, who entered into possession of it in 1642. Extensive repairs occurred under him; a large part of the building was taken down and a smaller one constructed with the original materials. About 1740, and again in 1767, additions were made by George Shirley. His grandson, Evelyn John Shirley, made alterations in 1824. It was restored by John Prichard for Evelyn Shirley in 1858–63, in the advanced Early English Style.” The hall is an 1858-62 re-modelling of an earlier house, probably mid 17th-century with mid 18thcentury additions. In the late 20th-century further alterations and additions were carried out. It is constructed in yellow and grey-banded limestone ashlar with a roof is made of stone slate. While the details of the house may not be familiar, if you’re a fan of vintage ghost or supernatural films you may well be familiar with the building’s façade For it was used as the exterior of the Mysterious ‘Hill House’ the bricks and mortar star of the 1960’s Classic ‘The Haunting’. Based on Shirley Jackson's 1959 novel, "The Haunting of Hill House," the black-and-white thriller shot in England revolves around Dr. Markway (Richard Johnson), a professor of anthropology with a fervid interest in the supernatural who decides to investigate a mansion with a long history of paranormal activity. He invites Luke (Russ Tamblyn), the heir to the mansion, a Medium (Claire Bloom) and the fragile victim of previous psychic events, Eleanor (Julie Harris), who had spent most of her adult life taking care of her late mother. Eleanor seems to connect to the house, which seems to have a life of its own, and begins to mentally unravel. 18

Director Robert Wise personally selected Ettington Park Hotel for the film’s location and, while filming the external scenes some of the cast and crew were housed in Ettington Park Hotel during exterior shooting. However, all the internal shots, including the paranormal activity, were filmed in a studio.

But, despite this, the hotel boosts its own hauntings, which include; Appearance of a candle floating in the air over the neo-Elizabethan style oak mantelpiece Poltergeist incidents of books flying in the library An Edwardian lady seen sitting near the bay window of the Great Drawing room The ghost of Mary, a servant girl in the Oak Room The ghost of a monk in the church; and the long, cold gallery creating an eerie feeling of being watched The sound of billiard balls clinking against one another in a deserted library In a particular room, the telephone used to ring the hotel reception switchboard, even though there was no-one staying in it. Disembodied voices being heard in empty rooms And, when a fire damaged the building in 1950’s, Workmen arrived on the first morning to commence the building’s reconstruction and noticed a white figure looking out of one of the first-floor windows. One workman said “It wasn’t until they were well inside the premises that they noticed there was no room there. It had been destroyed by the fire.” As well as these reports, a member of the Haunting’s cast experienced something strange while filming there. 19

Best known for is role is ‘West Side Story’, actor Russ Tamblyn described an eerie experience as walked back to the Hotel, following an evening of filming external scenes. When Tamblyn got close to the (family) graveyard, "I had this experience where, all of a sudden, I felt like someone took a brick of ice and put it on the back of my neck! I just took off, practically running back down the pathway to the house and to my room!" All in all a beautiful building and spooky to boot A Note from the Editor. I must confess, the Haunting is one of my favourite films, and when I had an opportunity to investigate the location back in the 1990’s I jumped at the chance! Unfortunately, despite all the above, on this occasion nothing really happened

P.S. ‘The Haunting’ was remade in 1999 staring Liam Neeson and Catherine Zeta-Jones and was basically dreadful! On no account confuse the two films! The original is an absolute classic the remake was garbage! The plan to remake the film began in the early 90’s. The film was originally to have been collaboration between Steven Spielberg (mainly, as director) and Stephen King (as screenwriter), but the two had creative differences. King instead wrote the teleplay for Rose Red, a television miniseries that shares many elements with Jackson's source novel, The Haunting of Hill House, and the character of the reallife edifice Winchester Mystery House, in San Jose, California. 20

In November we were joined by paranormal researcher David M. Roundtree, who proposes a truly fascinating theory on the origins of paranormal events.

Einstein-Rosen Bridge formation appears to be the primary mechanic involved with paranormal phenomena. We have known for some time that the phenomena are emerging, meaning it’s a local condition with a non-local source. In science, there are only a very few things that can create the conditions for emerging information to occur. Since we know that nothing we experience can be experienced outside of the laws of physics, the answer for haunting phenomena must comply with those laws. All indications show that it does. First let’s examine what an Einstein-Rosen bridge actually is. From Wikipedia: An Einstein–Rosen bridge, also known by its common vernacular “A wormhole”, or in Para-circles “Portal” or “Vortex” is a hypothetical topological feature of space-time that would fundamentally be a “shortcut” through space-time. A wormhole is much like a tunnel with two ends each in separate points in space-time. This means that it can connect two places in space, as well as two places in time…or both. In plain English, if we visualize space as a two-dimensional (2D) surface, a wormhole can be pictured as the 2D surface of a tube that connects different parts of the surface. The mouths of a wormhole are analogous to the holes at either end of the tube in a 2D plane. An actual wormhole would be analogous to this but with the spatial dimensions raised by one, which can be modeled mathematically even if we find it impossible to visualize. For example, instead of circular holes on a 2D plane, a real wormhole’s mouths could be spheres in 3D space. Researchers have no observational evidence for wormholes, until now. The equations of the theory of general relativity have valid solutions that contain wormholes. Because of its robust theoretical strength, a wormhole is one of the great physics metaphors for teaching general relativity. The first type of wormhole solution discovered was the Schwarzschild wormhole, which would be present in the Schwarzschild metric describing an eternal black hole, but it was found that this type of wormhole would collapse too quickly for anything to cross from one end to the other. Wormholes which could actually be crossed in both directions, known as traversable wormholes, would only be possible if exotic matter with negative energy density could be used to stabilize them.

22

KTPF Magazine

Issue 7 Dec. – Jan. 15

To delve deeper, The Casimir effect shows that quantum field theory allows the energy density in certain regions of space to be negative relative to the ordinary vacuum energy, and it has been shown theoretically that quantum field theory allows states where the energy can be arbitrarily negative at a given point. Many physicists such as Stephen Hawking, Kip Thorne, and others therefore argue that such effects might make it possible to stabilize a traversable wormhole. Physicists have not found any natural process that would be predicted to form a wormhole naturally in the context of general relativity, although the quantum foam hypothesis is sometimes used to suggest that tiny wormholes might appear and disappear spontaneously at the Planck scale, and stable versions of such wormholes have been suggested as dark matter candidates. It has also been proposed that if a tiny wormhole held open by a negative-mass cosmic string had appeared around the time of the Big Bang, it could have been inflated to macroscopic size by cosmic inflation. The American theoretical physicist John Archibald Wheeler coined the term wormhole in 1957; however, in 1921, the German mathematician Hermann Weyl already had proposed the wormhole theory, in connection with mass analysis of electromagnetic field energy. This analysis forces one to consider situations…where there is a net flux of lines of force, through what topologists would call “a handle” of the multiply-connected space, and what physicists might perhaps be excused for more vividly terming a “wormhole”.

So…taking all this into account, we began a search for evidence demonstrating wormhole formation back in 2010. I designed a device that could detect emerging Electromagnetic Fields, in order to define a source point for further analysis. This device, The EMF Quadrolator, has been dubbed “The Worm Hole Detector” for simplicity. Here is what we have discovered since 2010: A point of information emergence forms in a locale. This information is Electromagnetic field radiation. This includes Electronic Voice Phenomena, which has been proven to be an Electromagnetic Field in the Audio spectrum of frequencies. It is not sound. Sound is mechanical energy, not electromagnetic energy. However, it is also noted that acoustic energy (sound) also emerges. In the local area of emergence, the environment alters. The first alteration is an increase in background gamma radiation. IF exotic matter is present, it will annihilate once it contacts normal matter. It will occur at the Planck level, or particle/sub-atomic level. If it occurred at the atomic level, there would be a large thermonuclear explosion. This is not the case. This gamma radiation ionizes the air molecules adjacent to the emergence point. This causes a dramatic increase in ions, both positive and negative. Static fields increase dramatically, creating hair standing on end, fear responses, and other psychological conditions due to neural stimulation. Barometric pressure drops adjacent to the emergence point. This indicates an atmospheric differential is occurring. Gravity fluctuates along three separate axes. This is indicative of wormhole formation. A wormhole can bend space-time locally. Vortexual movement can be detected. This would be indicative of wormhole spin…or rotation. 23

Information can also emerge in the form of visual stimulation based on low frequency acoustics. Brainwave alteration can occur from low frequency EMF. This can alter mood, stimulate various emotional responses, and trigger medium effects, or the receiving of intelligent information. An “apparition” can appear. This is caused by a holographic projection of energy on to the holographic boundary of the wormhole. This means a visual ghost is a hologram. Evidence suggests that the source is intelligent, and possibly a disembodied consciousness. Predictions of this data occurring can be made. Many tests were conducted in both active and inactive locations. Wormhole activity was detected in both locations. This indicates that wormholes open up all around us all the time. These gates are sometimes active, sometimes not. There tends to be more “active” wormhole activity in locales with a reputation of being “haunted”. Tesla did experiments with his high energy Tesla coil. High energy discharge has demonstrated potential for artificially opening these wormholes. There are time fluctuations occurring at the mouth of the wormhole. Time may speed up or slow down. This can be experienced physically, as well as detected using a torsion field detector. The data demonstrated above is predictable. The predictions are realized associated with activity and information emergence. The theory is legitimate. The proof is building for not only this being the mechanic involved in paranormal activity, but more important, proof that wormholes exist and are not just theoretical constructs. We were joined by KTPF semi regular guest Steve Mera to discuss the book he’d co-authored with Jenny Ashford – The Rochdale Poltergeist A true story of paranormal activity in a Northern English urban home. Bellow is an extract from the book

My Biggest Fright! As I sat there in the darkness I could hear it... At first quite faint but growing louder. It was now right behind me... The deep rasping breaths were just over my shoulder. Trying to gather the courage to turn and face this thing... My mouth had ran dry... my palms were sweating... Oh well, hear we go. I slowly turned to look behind me and that was when the unthinkable happened. It was so fast, I couldn't believe it, crouched in pain, I ran, without a care of what people thought. I just had to get out of there. Confused as to what had exactly happened I found myself in the lounge. Something had lashed out in the darkness, it had attacked me, and I had the marks to prove it... During an investigation in 1996 I had experienced something that was to change my view and opinion forever. On most occasions, an investigation of said paranormal disturbances rarely amount to anything substantial. Over the last 20 years I have stayed over in many of the countries most haunted buildings in hope of obtaining the littlest of evidence to support all the hype you read. I wish I had a penny for each time I've been told that there's an apparition of a blue, grey or white lady. Tall tales are easy to come by which are usually supported by photographs of orbs, which often turn out to be nothing, more than illuminated dust particles. Yes! I've heard it all before... ranging from the first stages of a manifestation to a demonic entity Hell-bent on destroying your soul. So you may ask yourself why? Why do I even bother spending my years sitting in cold dark and damp places waiting to witness something truly unusual. Well... It's all because of what I experienced that night back in August of 1996. For me, the incidents of that night hammered home the fact that paranormal phenomena really does exist; and since then dedicated my life in an attempt to find out how and why such phenomena can occur. I cannot speak for everyone; for me it's worthy of as much investigation and research you can give it. I guess you would have to have been there. Sometimes you really do need to see it to believe it. I did, and for the first time in my life I was truly scared...

August 1996 was also memorable due to a five week heat wave the UK was enduring. A hose-pipe ban had been enforced just after two weeks. The last thing I expected to read in a newspaper was a family that were having strange outpourings of water in their prefab bungalow home in Rochdale. The Gardner family were plagued by the sudden appearance of water on their ceilings, doors and worktops. Rochdale council had dispatched investigators to the scene several times in hope of finding the problem, but it seemed they had drawn a blank. I contacted the family and they agreed for me to visit and interview them. When I arrived I was surprised to see how small their bungalow was. Some of their carpets had been rolled up and plastic sheets had been placed around in hope of protecting their belongings from water damage. I sat gripping my mug of coffee as the Gardner’s bombarded me with details of what had gone on. I quickly realised that there was a lot more to it. Pictures had jumped off the wall in view of witnesses, objects were found to have been moved, strange odours of pipe tobacco, appliances working on there own when not plugged in, unusual sounds throughout the night and of course... the water. There was evidence of water damage in almost every room. It was clear that an investigation was warranted. Mrs. Gardner agreed that I could return armed with equipment and investigators. As I sat taking notes Mr. Gardner came in from the kitchen and said 'It's started again'. A bemused look fell over my face, I thought he was joking... He Wasn't! Mrs. Gardner broke down in tears as I followed Mr. Gardner into the kitchen. I stood there in amazement... Mr. Gardner had reached out by the side of the cooker for an umbrella. I couldn't believe my eyes. It was (by all intense and purpose) 'Raining in the Kitchen'. Water was just dropping from the ceiling. The shower lasted a minute or so. I was gobsmacked! I'd never seen anything like it... I had arranged for the Gardner's to stay over at relatives... I arrived with five investigators and an array of equipment. Throughout the night we experienced things I'd only read in books. An apportation of a small statuette, strange odours of tobacco and flowers, and of course further forming’s of water that seemed to intelligently make its way across the hallway ceiling. I was loving it... Excited at the possibility of what next might occur. However, as the night drew in a more sinister atmosphere fell over the home... It was now around 3.00pm, I found myself sat on the end of a bed in the back bedroom. Either side of me were investigators Carole and Val. We sat in silence, listening for any little noise... A few minutes later a strange feeling came over me. An odd tingling sensation and a feeling of anticipation. And then a noise... Quiet at first but getting louder. The sound of deep breathes from directly behind me. A sudden coldness came over me. I was only laughing and joking an hour a go, but hear I was absolutely terrified. I looked over at both Carole and Val. They too were hearing the deep breathes. I knew that being the man, it would have to be me to turn and see what it was; but I couldn't. Fear had gripped me so hard that I couldn't move. The breaths got louder and nearer; and out of shear panic I forced myself to turn and face whatever it was in the darkness... 27

At that very moment I suddenly felt myself trusted off the bed as if something had hit me hard in the back. The only thought on my mind was to run out of there. I felt physically threatened. I rushed past Carole and Val holding my back. I found myself in the lounge tumbling for the light switch. Whatever happened had clearly left me in a state of panic. My heart was racing. A few seconds later I was stood trying to explain to my team what had happened. The sudden feeling of being punched and an electric shock at the same time had left a nasty mark on my back. It was clear that it was starting to bruise... I had to leave the building... I needed some air. As I stood in back garden I contemplated my future within this subject. I thought that I was in acceptance that such phenomena existed... Apparently not. I was fooling myself! This was a bit all too real for me, but what was I to do? OK... so now I know such things are real. Rather than looking foolish I decided to carry on the investigation. But I did seriously doubt whether or not I should be doing this. After all, how can you protect yourself against something you cannot see nor hear? The whole experience had changed me. Over the following weeks I had come to accept what had happened and it gave me a new zest for knowledge and to further investigate the strange and profound... But I don't think I'd ever want to experience that feeling again. A feeling that now, whilst writing this still gives me a chill! The Rochdale Poltergeist - Steve Mera.

UFO’S an article by KTPF’s own Steve Taggart UFO’s - What are they? People see them all the time but the question is, are they just that unidentified flying objects or alien craft come to check us out? But what is it that make them come here? What is about us that makes them Interested? After all, they are technically more advanced than we are. And we know this just by their presence. But what real evidence do we have? Well there has been three areas where we can say there was definitely something to it. Roswell is the big one of coarse and then Rendlesham and Warminster. Even here real evidence is hard to come by due to all the disinformation that has been put out. So just how much of it can we believe? And when we look at everything, we have to be very careful we don’t prejudge and make it fit what we would like it to be. So what if we forget them? What are we left with? To be honest not a lot, fussy pictures, unexplained lights and misidentifying objects in the sky, (mainly because we want it to be a space craft of some sort) and down right fakes. When it comes to the fakes we ask why? Well maybe it is just someone trying to get five minutes of fame or openly trying to fool everyone. Lets say straight away the majority of these pictures are honest people just asking what is it. But most seem to think they have caught a spaceship from another planet. When we ask 'Why are they here'? we have to think about what would attract them to our planet. Well first of all, we are bouncing TV and radio signals out into space for Generations. Telling who ever may be watching and listening that we are better than we are. After all, how many films has there been, where we go into space and travel? I don’t know where this alone could make us look like a threat to who ever gets these signals, hence we have visitation from other civilisations of other planets in other galaxies. This is assuming there is some form of life on other planets with the technology to visit our little world. One reason to think they are checking us out, is to see if we are or could become a threat. As we seem to see a lot of UFO’s around military bases, nuclear plants, silo's and it stands to reason doesn’t it? That they would want to know what we have. But to be honest, they probably see our potential and are laughing to themselves that they thought we could be a threat to anyone outside our atmosphere. 30

Issue 7 Dec. – Jan. 15

There comes a time when we have to look at what evidence there is and ask do we have any serious proof that a nuts and bolts craft has travelled millions of miles just to see us and what we are capable of. Does it seem possible that intelligent civilisation would waste resources to do that, considering how far away we probably are form them. Of course, some would say they are here to help and teach us and aid in our advancement, but once again why? By doing this we could become an allie to them in the future as well as a threat and considering human nature is that a wise move? I think not. I’m sorry, but I don’t have a very good view of human nature, as to me, if there is money to be made and power to be obtained, someone on this planet will want it. Personally I doubt there are any nuts and bolts craft visiting us, they are, if they exist, more likely to be dimensional beings and this would make their visitations more likely, than some craft travelling millions of light years just to see us for any reason what so ever. Some would say, like Erich von Däniken, that we have had visitations in our past and they have been seen as gods, who have helped move us along the evolutionary ladder. As there is some evidence to suggest that this has happened, although maybe we haven't got the whole story and I’m sure von Däniken would be the first to agree. If we go along the dimensional route, then we have to ask the question where is this other dimension? Is it on another planet or this one? Do we share our planet with other beings? And does what we do, affect them? If we destroy this planet in our dimension, do we do the same in theirs? If so, it stands to reason why they would visit us and help us to make things better for us both. Of course, we also have to ask does what they do on their side of the dimension effect us? Also how many dimensions are there? Looking at it this way does kind of make more sense, but also leaves us with a lot more questions unanswered and maybe some of the films from Hollywood are not so far fetched after all. There are some daft but maybe not so daft ideas out there, like this planet as we know it, is an experiment to see how we would get on without the technology and they check on us every so often. Or that this is a prison planet and when we die it is the end of our sentence like they say in the film 'Men in Black' "Elvis didn’t die, he went home". But we keep saying they are visiting us but the big question is...

WHO ARE THEY? 31

The Real Hammer House of Horror Another excellent true ghost story from the records of ghost historian – Brian Langton Who joined us on the show in November To the west of Windsor lies the pretty village of Oakley Green which is dominated by Oakley Court, an extraordinary high-gothic mansion built on the banks of the Thames in 1859 by Sir Richard Hall-Say. Local legend claims that the house was built in the style of a French Chateau to comfort his homesick French wife. In fact his wife was Edith Evans from nearby Boveney and the house, although magnificent, could not be described as French. Nevertheless it does have some French credentials. In 1919 it was bought by Ernest Olivier the Turkish Consul-General in Monte Carlo. During the Second World War, through his influence, the house became the secret headquarters of the French Resistance and Charles De Gaulle stayed in one of the bedrooms. In 1955, Bray Studios opened next door and the impressive tower and foreboding facade of Oakley Court became a splendidly atmospheric setting for many of their films. In 1965 after the death of Olivier, the house was left uninhabited for 14 years during which Hammer and other film-makers seized the opportunity to cast it as a creepy haunted house or Dracula’s castle in over 200 films including the Hammer Classics, The Brides of Dracula (1962), The Reptile (1966) and The Plague of the Zombies (1966). The house also featured in The Old Dark House 1963, And Now the Screaming Starts (1973), The Vampyres (1974), Murder by Death (1976) and the Peter Cook and Dudley Moore film, The Hound of the Baskervilles (1978). It is perhaps best known as Dr. Frank N. Furter's castle (called ‘The Frankenstein Place’) in The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). The sinister pedigree was not however confined to the silver screen. From the late 1960s the house was converted into flats and it is during this period that the paranormal activity in and around the house intensified to the extent that it became described, not only as haunted, but evil. Residents reported hearing strange banging noises coming from parts of the house which were not occupied. Ghostly figures appeared at night driving away several tenants. Bad luck and tragedy befell many who lived there and the atmosphere around the building apparently became so oppressive that it caused a number of people to commit suicide in the Thames. One man drowned in 1971 falling from a pleasure steamer and his body was recovered near to the house. Another tragic case involved Penelope Gallerneault aged 26 who moved into an apartment in the converted servants’ quarters of Oakley Court with her husband and four children. The family had been warned by friends before they moved in that the place was haunted and had a previous history of accidents involving death by drowning. 37

KTPF Magazine

Issue 7 Dec.15-Jan.16

Penelope and her husband dismissed the stories as fanciful and revelled in their beautiful new riverside home. Little did they know that this was to be the worst decision they ever made and within three years two of their children would be dead and their lives would be in turmoil. The horror began in the summer of 1972 when Mrs. Gallerneault first sensed that something was very wrong at Oakley Court. “‘I started to see people walking in the grounds wearing hoods. This was accompanied by an overwhelming feeling of dread” she said. “Then one morning I found a box on the doorstep. When I opened it I was horrified to see the body of one of my cats with its neck broken”. Although this was reported to the police, it was never discovered who was responsible but added to the rumours that evil forces were at work at Oakley Court. Catastrophe struck shortly afterwards when in December her two-year-old son, William, drowned. Mrs Gallerneault was running him a bath when the phone rang. When she returned a few minutes later he was floating dead in the water. “I realise that many people might try to blame me for being careless, but that is just not the case. In a rambling old house like that, there are so many precautions you have to take.” She told a newspaper in 1973. Her grief was compounded when within months another almost identical tragedy struck the family. Her second son Edward, who was just two, was left in his playpen in the grounds of the house. Inexplicably he managed to climb out, toddled down to the river, fell in and was drowned. The family were devastated and left the house shortly afterwards although their marriage did not survive the trauma Mrs Gallerneault told reporters, ‘The house has an aura of evil and I could never go back there. Horror films being made there might seem like a joke. I'm sure evil has rubbed off on the place or something awful has been invoked.”. The Rev. Sebastian Jones, curate of St Michael’s Church, Bray, added; “Oakley Court is definitely “spooky” and I would not want to stay there myself. Evil can generate evil, and the grounds would be an ideal place to practise black magic”

A senior policeman said at the time: “There have been some strange happenings at the house, which have never been fully explained. We made regular patrols after complaints about witchcraft being practiced and things seem to have quietened down now” 38

KTPF Magazine

Issue 7 Dec. – Jan. 15

However things did not remain quiet for very long. During its conversion to a hotel in the late1970s there were a number of strange incidents which further cemented its reputation of being one of the country’s most haunted houses. On one occasion workmen fled the site when a pair of internal double doors burst open in front of them and glasses were smashed around them as if thrown by an unseen assailant. The development was dogged with continuous electrical faults, tools went missing and strange noises were heard coming from parts of the building they knew were unoccupied. One contractor remarked; “From the day we started on the site we were plagued by inexplicable events. It was though we were not welcome in the house and everything happened to delay the work or drive us away” Workers refused to stay at the house after dark and ghost-like figures were seen on several occasions in the grounds. In response to damage being committed in the house overnight, the developers installed resident security guards but a succession of night watchman came and went after reporting hearing mournful moaning noises coming from the upper floors and the sound of people “marching on the roof”. One of them narrowly escaped death after falling through the roof whilst In 1981 finally noises. opened its doors as a hotel but the refurbishment failed to dislodge the investigating theitstrange ghostly entities. It became a regular tea-spot for the Windsor police night shift and before long, stories eerie new phenomena began to emerge from the night porters, who welcomed the nocturnal visits by the local police. Phantom hooded figures were still observed stalking the grounds. The sound of a ‘break shot’ was heard coming from the billiard room in the middle of the night but when reception staff investigated they found the balls still in position and nothing had been touched. In recent years room 117 has acquired the reputation of being the most haunted after guests have reported seeing ghostly apparitions and even a possible time slip during their stay there. One guest awoke in the middle of the night after sensing someone was standing next to his bed. He could make out a shadowy figure in the gloom and switched on the bedside light. He then saw standing beside the bed what he described as a 19th Century gentleman in evening dress. He noticed that the room had also changed shape. The ghost stood motionless until the guest leapt out of bed in fright and the ghost just melted away into the ether and the room reconfigured back to its correct shape. Enquiries later revealed that the configuration seen by the guest was in fact the original layout of the room before the refurbishment of the house although the identity of the ghost remains unknown

The Manager of Oakley Court reports that to this day some staff will not go into one of the upstairs rooms due to an oppressive atmosphere and a feeling of being continually watched. Guests have complained about knocks on their bedroom doors in the middle of the night and when checking have found no-one there. Visitors have also reported phantom images appearing on their camera shots. One such photograph is displayed in the hotel and shows a ghostly figure sitting at a dining table which the photographer and his companion insist, was empty when the photograph was taken. Psychics investigators claim that a pervading sense of menace still shrouds Oakley Court and it is this, rather than simply the imposing architecture and gruesome gargoyles, that accounts for the shiver down the spine which many visitors experience, when crossing the threshold for the first time.
