dENiZEN® from the Levi’s® Brand Introduces New Jeans Collection Available Exclusively at Target
Balenciaga confirms Alexander Wang as new designer
Denizen means “inhabitant:” belonging to a community of family and friends. Denim is in the name and at the heart of the brand. The dENiZEN® brand is accessible to all, promising the optimism and confidence that stems from looking and feeling great. dENiZEN® jeans are the perfect fit for today’s active families, offering the perfect balance of style and value.
Balenciaga on Monday announced the appointment of New York star Alexander Wang, pictured here on November 7, as its new top designer, taking over from Nicolas Ghesquiere at the helm of the French fashion house.
Launched in the U.S. in 2011, all dENiZEN® jeans are specifically designed with the Target® consumer in mind. Made with premium fabrics, finishes and fits dENiZEN® jeans are available for men, women, boys and girls at a great value. dENiZEN® jeans come in a wide variety of washes, so there’s a perfect fit and style for every occasion – casual, work, dress, weekend or family fun.
“Balenciaga and PPR are pleased to announce the appointment of Alexander Wang to the post of Creative Director of the Balenciaga fashion house, as of today,” said a joint statement from Balenciaga and its owner, the PPR luxury group. One of the hottest names in US fashion, Wang will be responsible for designing the brand’s women’s and men’s ready-to-wear and accessories collections, as well as for Balenciaga’s image, the text said.
Forget the juice cleanses and exercise videos, looking slim and stylish this holiday season is easier than you think. In stores now, new limited edition colored denim styles of the best-selling Totally Shaping MidRise Skinny jeans by dENiZEN® from the Levi’s® brand are available exclusively at Target® stores and on Target.com.
“I am deeply honoured to embark on this new role for a brand and house that I have such great admiration and respect for,” Wang was quoted as saying in the statement.
Totally Shaping Mid-Rise Skinny jeans are designed to flatter a woman’s figure and help achieve a long and lean silhouette. Available in four fashionable jewel-tone finishes: Red, Royal Purple, Turquoise and Rosebud, Totally Shaping Mid-Rise Skinny jeans retail for $27.99. Balenciaga on Monday announced the appointment of New York star Alexander Wang as its new top designer, taking over from Nicolas Ghesquiere at the helm of the French fashion house.
The 28-year-old, born in California to Taiwanese parents, will continue with his independent New York-based house, turning out relaxed chic with a streetwise edge, alongside his new duties at Balenciaga.
PPR took the fashion world by surprise last month by announcing the departure of Ghesquiere, its designer of 15 years, who put the house founded by Spaniard Cristobal Balenciaga in 1919 back on the fashion map in his time there. The trade magazine Women’s Wear Daily had reported Friday -- the last day of Ghesquiere’s contract -- that Wang had been picked to succeed him. Isabelle Guichot, Balenciaga’s chief executive, paid tribute in the statement to Wang’s “proven talent, modernity and individual and cosmopolitan vision of design.” Turnover had been multiplied by 11 since the house was acquired by PPR, with two-figure growth for the first nine months of this year. Industry experts suggested the choice of Wang, who speaks Mandarin and whose ownname brand has been pushing into Asia, could signal a willingness to focus on the vast Chinese market, building on PPR’s strong presence in the region. In Paris meanwhile, the designer has already received a high-profile endorsement after Karl Lagerfeld let slip at an exhibition launch this month that he was wearing an Alexander Wang overcoat.

Keene Los Angeles Now Open at Santa Monica Place
Keene Los Angeles, a new specialty retail concept founded by native New Yorker and Head Buyer, Stacey Tanenbaum, opened its doors November 17th on the first level, center court, of Santa Monica Place. Keene is designed to appeal to today’s modern woman by providing a fun, sophisticated and unpretentious shopping experience where she can always find on-trend, yet classic style affordably priced at under $100 per item. The location of the newest Keene Los Angeles store at Santa Monica Place follows the opening of its Westwood location and a successful summerpop-up store in Manhattan Beach. The Santa Monica Place store was selected based on the center’s strong co-tenancy and the fashion-savvy clientele it attracts. Tanenbaum believes Keene’s artfully curated “east coast classic meets California casual” aesthetic and attractive price point will quickly make it a favorite destination for center visitors. Tanenbaum curates Keene’s collection with women such as herself in mind, blending her classic east coast aesthetic with her love of the chic, relaxed lifestyle of Southern California, where she now resides. “Having lived in New York, Chicago and LA, this ‘high taste, value-oriented’ woman is not being served with the quality of product and shopping experience she desires”. Adds Tanenbaum, “this is what drove me to find a solution. My goal is to make it easy for women to say ‘yes’ to anything they see at Keene. Honestly, today, we like to brag about how little we spent on something we love!” According to Tanenbaum, she designed Keene to be a place where women can immerse themselves in a warm and sophisticated environment with friendly service and prices that are as appealing as the product. By delivering new and different merchandise several times each week, Keene uniquely offers customers new discoveries upon each visit. With a strong and experienced industry management team to help direct the operations, Tanenbaum believes Keene can become a favorite destination concept for women throughout the US and online. Currently, Keene has plans to open more than a dozen stores by 2014 and will be launching an e-commerce site in 2013. For more information, visit www.KeeneLA.com

The Summer-Spring 13’ collection utilizes the signature, textured leather bag, “Epi” as inspiration for much of the line. Leather is a main theme running throughout the collection from the clothing to the shoes. The “Epi” deck shoes are showcased as the predominant footwear throughout the entire collection. The Damier has also appeared this season, however it’s been reinvented in waterproof nylon. It appears in the messenger bags as well as in the contrasting trim and main color– navy blue–for the collection. It has also made headlines appearing in the mini-trunk bags. Slight variations and role reversals of certain fabrics were made to give the collection a fresh new look, while still maintaining its traditional appeal and tone. The main thought behind the collection was to update the bags this season by taking the inner workings of the trunk and switching it around. Certain elements have been changed, and trims and finishes were added to deliver a collection The wristwatches are both bold and technically that is both luxurious and modern. pleasing, from the bright orange hues to the cold navy that marries the two colors together. Olive green and florescent yellow combine in perfect harmony. The watches straddle the line between luxury and play, and provide a sense of time lost to adventure. They’re meant to be worn day or night, and play upon the main theme of the collection - travel.
Everything right down to the rope sandals that make use of luxurious crocodile to accent the sandals themselves are done beautifully. Desert boots appear in suede and add a touch of fluorescent fabric inside. The mix-and-match of technical and traditional components were targeted this season to reflect the modern tastes of consumers throughout the world. The collection was made with the world traveler in mind; meant to appeal to the scuba diver by day and the jet setter by night.
The neckerchiefs and ties in the collection add a touch of elegance, with flags of different countries printed throughout the fabric. For the man who isn’t afraid to say, “I’m not from one country, but I am a man of the world.” The well-worn traveler gets a new look thanks to Louis Vuitton: it’s chic and ever classic.

Pamella Roland Creates a Masterpiece Collection for New York Fashion Week As I made my way up the escalator at the Avery Fisher Hall in the Lincoln Center to Pamella Roland’s Spring 2013 presentation I did not know what to expect. I had heard of this designer and the fact that she has dressed A-List celebrities (Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry and Eva Longoria to name a few…) She is also a well known member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America and an art collector. But never could I have dreamed that I would fall so deeply in love with her work within minutes of arriving. Each item was the epitome of beauty and exquisite craftsmanship. Pamella’s passion for art was immediately apparent in the geometric patterns and sleek lines of her line. She did not miss a beat with including modern accents such as exposed zippers and sheer cut-outs. As the presentation rolled into the second run, I found myself glued to the spot not wanting to look away for fear of missing any unseen detail. I felt exceptionally fortune not only to be able to see the line for more than the twelve seconds that I would have on the runway, but to see it three times as the presentation repeated for a new set of onlookers. The black and white angular set design, created by renowned architect Kulapat Yantrasast, allowed for the perfect background to capture the elements of the pieces. The models walked by in hand-painted silk dresses and ivory metallic tweed coats. The variation in Pamella’s design’s sets her apart from other designers. Each look had its own uniqueness to whether it was intricate macro beading or a keyhole chiffon dress. The presentation included all types of pieces from wideleg pants to sequin shorts, trumpet
skirts, and evening gowns. Chopard jewels perfectly complimented the collection. The classical element of her designs makes many of them timeless. I can picture Jackie Kennedy Onassis wearing these designs fifty years ago or and the Duchess of Cambridge wearing them today. After the presentation I was able to meet the designer in person ,to ask her a few questions: Laura: How did you get your start in the fashion world? Pamella: At a very young age, maybe 14 or 15, I started as a stock girl at a clothing store in Michigan. And how do you get into fashion from there? I have an art background, I worked in clothing all my life. I went to Michigan State University, studied art history and business, then got married and had three children. Later, as the kids got older, I really wanted to start my dream. And it was not easy with little kids, but I started designing. Laura: What do you have in store for your Fall/Winter 2013 Collection? Pamella: It is so crazy because on Monday this collection goes to bed and then we start work again on the new one. We have an inspiration chosen, but I will keep it quiet for now. Laura: Fair enough. Who are some designers that you look up to? Pamella: I love Yves Saint Laurent. We do a tuxedo almost every season and I think he started that whole thing with women in tuxedos and I love that streamline in his collections
by Laura Yazdi
Laura: What are some of your worlds of advice for up-and-coming designers? Pamella: It is hard work and I think so often fashion design now has become so glamorized but really it is hard work and so few make it. You work around the clock and it is just the way it is. I am so tired this fashion week, but I know that every fashion week this is the way it is. I do not think the young designers realize how much work it is. You better love it. Laura: You mentioned you started working in the fashion industry at a very young age, and your first line came out in 2002, but when did you actually begin to create a line? Pamella: In 2002. I can design, but I cannot sew. In my opinion, Pamella had one of the most elegant collections of this season’s New York Fashion Week. With a classic approach to modernism, her pieces will definitely make a statement at any event. If I only had one word to describe this presentation I would not hesitate- it was simply stunning. If a women tells you she is wearing Pamella Roland, one thing is for certain, that woman has exquisite taste. I know that if I am ever going to walk the red carpet, she is the first designer I am calling for a fitting.
