Town of Indian Lake TDA# 7218229 Early Notice and Public Review of a Proposed Activity in a 100-Year/500-year Floodplain or Wetland To: All interested Agencies include all Federal, State, and Local, Groups and Individuals This is to give notice that HUD under part 50 or Responsible Entity under Part 58 has determined that the following proposed action under Aztec Cove Drive Street and Drainage Improvements and TDA Grant # 7218229 located in the 100-year/500-year floodplain/wetland, and the Town of Indian Lake will be identifying and evaluating practicable alternatives to locating the action in the floodplain/wetland and the potential impacts on the floodplain/wetland from the proposed action, as required by Executive Order 11988 and/or 11990, in accordance with HUD regulations at 24 CFR 55.20 Subpart C Procedures for Making Determinations on Floodplain Management and Protection of Wetlands. The proposed project will reconstruct Aztec Cove Drive from Lakeside Drive intersection to Vista Hermosa Drive East and procure a ROW to provide drainage of the project area improvements. The size of the site is approximately five (5) acres the floodplain is Zone X an areas of minimal flood hazard. The natural and beneficial values will not be affected by the activity. The proposed project(s) is located on Aztec Cove Drive from Lake Side Intersection to Vista Hermosa Drive East and obtain a ROW for drainage improvements on Aztec Cove Drive in the Town of Indian Lake, Cameron County, Texas 78566. The FEMA Floodplain Map Panel 48061C0435F dated 02-16-2018 was used. There are three primary purposes for this notice. First, people who may be affected by activities in floodplains/wetlands and those who have an interest in the protection of the natural environment should be given an opportunity to express their concerns and provide information about these areas. Commenters are encouraged to offer alternative sites outside of the floodplain/wetland, alternative methods to serve the same project purpose, and methods to minimize and mitigate impacts. Second, an adequate public notice program can be an important public educational tool. The dissemination of information and request for public comment about floodplains/wetlands can facilitate and enhance Federal efforts to reduce the risks and impacts associated with the occupancy and modification of these special areas. Third, as a matter of fairness, when the Federal government determines it will participate in actions taking place in floodplains/wetlands, it must inform those who may be put at greater or continued risk. Written comments must be received by Town of Indian Lake at the following address on or before January 30, 2019, 82 South Aztec Cove Drive, Los Fresnos, Texas 78566 or call at 956-233-4021.
