More Than Just a Field Trip them to STARBASE. Mrs. Gonzalez expressed that it was a great field trip. The students were very excited and asked lots of questions about the rockets and what all happens at Starbase here in Brownsville. Afterward, BiG Heroes had a pizza party back at the Brownsville Police Department, and students had a great time. Sauceda says that some of the students asked for his phone number and that they text him and keep in touch. Mrs. Gonzalez highlights on the importance of inclusion saying, “The movement towards inclusion is to build awareness that our students want to learn more about the community alongside their nondisabled peers.” She says, “Our members may require a little more elaboration, but the information helps build up their interests and knowledge base so that they can partake in conversation alongside

Big Heroes Emilio Flores Los Fresnos News Brownsville Tx. — At the start of this month, BiG Heroes had the opportunity to visit the world’s first commercial launch site for orbital missions, SpaceX. But the field trip day was a much bigger challenge than one might think… BiG Heroes for those that don’t know is a non-profit organization that’s sole purpose is to take posthigh school students with disabilities and continue their learning and “provide the necessary tools to help each member reach their maximum potential in life.” Los Fresnos News wrote a story back in February on some of the things these students have
accomplished, and what ways they are impacting the community. One of the things that Martha Gonzalez, Executive Director at BiG Heroes, mentioned back in February was the growth of students. She currently has more than twenty students. Mrs. Gonzalez says she “began by reaching out to the SpaceX Tour Coordinator to confirm on the possibility of touring. Having the opportunity to expose our students to the future of commercial space travel was a great experience,” But this was only the beginning, “Once we had the approval, we needed to brainstorm on how to get there!” Mrs. Gonzalez explains that before, they were able to
use their personal vehicles and caravan, but now with more students, that just wasn’t gonna work. Mrs. Gonzalez says “Brownsville Police Chief, Felix Sauceda heard about our dilemma and stepped in to help coordinate.” The Brownsville PD had a whole escort for BiG Heroes. Brownsville Chief Sauceda had Brownsville city vans escorted by Police motorcycles. Being treated as dignitaries or VIPs. He says that the motorcyclists made a point to wave at the students and personally escort them which even got the attention of SpaceX. Mrs. Gonzalez says that their “BiG Blue team” as they call the Brownsville Police Officers, was an instrumental part in getting

their nondisabled peers and families. Our students are curious to learn about what space travel is and how their community plays a role in it.” That is one of BiG Heroes' goals, to shine the light on the less abled and bring Inclusion; showing that these young adults can learn and experience all the same things and can live a more enriched and fulfilling life. Mrs. Gonzalez says “everyone works differently and should focus on ABILITIES.” She says “We thank Brownsville PD Chief Sauceda for championing inclusion in our community. Challenges always arise when planning a field trip, but we are blessed to have the support of the community and most importantly God’s blessings.” Chief Sauceda mentions that they work with Down by the Border, & Driscoll Children's Specialty Center aswell. heart is what Chief Sauceda says the Department tries to practice on a daily. He says that It’s important to support them and it’s
important to him to have a “strong community outreach”. Gonzalez says “Having the support of Brownsville
Police Department & Chief Sauceda through the years has been a blessing for our nonprofit organization. We are glad that BPD understands the importance of inclusion of our members into the
community. It was truly amazing to have the support of officers in blue by our side through this experience. There is no doubt that if an emergency had occurred they would have stepped up to serve our members and we are blessed to count on their support.” BiG Heroes' mission
is to provide continued post-high school learning experiences to young adults with disabilities. They continue to provide the necessary tools to help each member reach their maximum potential in life and assist those who seek a job opportunity in their community and feel confident to do so. They
have created a GODcentered environment that empowers young adults with special abilities to be recognized for their contributions to an inclusive community. To learn more about our program please visit their website at WWW. BIGHEROTX.ORG

Ask Our Dentists by DR. ADAM LALONDE
Many patients ask us which is best…a Manual or Electric Toothbrush? A GOOD Electric Brush is ideal for several reasons.
“Your Community Newspaper” 705 W. Highway 100, Suite B-2 Los Fresnos, TX
ANSWERED by DR.ADAM LALONDE: You are probably thinking: Out of all the gadgets that you could buy this year, an electric toothbrush is probably one of the least exciting options. That said, it may also be one of the smartest purchases you make all year. It’s hard to overstate the importance of oral hygiene. Brushing your teeth thoroughly and consistently can help prevent cavities, gingivitis, and gum Dr. Adam Lalonde disease. Having oral health problems, on the other hand, has been linked to gum diabetes, heart disease, cancer and more. That’s where finding the best electric toothbrush comes in handy. To be clear: both manual and electric toothbrushes are good at removing plaque, according to the American Dental Association (ADA). But here’s the catch: If you’re using a manual toothbrush, you’re also responsible for doing all the work. In general, that means holding brush at a 45 degree angle while brushing the gum-line, and brushing the outer, inner, and surfaces of your teeth with gentle pressure for 2 minutes. In short, electric brushes eliminate a lot of mistakes people tend to make when they brush at home and keep people on a routine. Plus, they are also good for people who have dexterity problems, disabilities, or braces. Ready to give one a try? The Oral-B Genius Pro 8000 is highly recommended by the ADA. It even syncs with your smartphone and tracks which areas you’ve brushed and which areas you’ve missed. It also has a built in 2-minute timer and an over-brushing sensor; brushing too aggressively can cause an injury to your teeth or gums. Also, the rounded head is the perfect shape to cover every area of your mouth. If you would like to know more about this, call our office or stop by. We have them available for purchase. Once Again, Basketball Fever has taken over the Valley in the Annual Rio Grande Valley Coaches Association Senior Basketball All Star Game. From 6A all the way down to 1A, Schools from both the East and West RGV were represented with the best senior basketball players, allowing them to suit up one last time. For the Falcon Basketball fans, a special treat to see four Falcon players suit up one final time. For The Lady Falcons, Gaby
Garrido and Sarahi Jones. While Roger Capetillo and Edsson Picazo got to represent Los Fresnos one more time. In the Girls 6A All Star Game, Jones hit a key three to give the East the lead in a close matchup over the West. Jones played standout defense, bringing down multiple rebounds and was lockdown in the Paint. Gaby Garrido hit some big driveins, including going three for four from the free throw line. Jones’ and Garrido’s solid execution led to the East’s 46-30 win over the West. For the Falcons on
the Boys side of things, Edsson Picazo and Roger Capetillo played solid basketball and contributed to the East’s Victory over the West 56-44. Capetillo put eight points and went four for 6 from the free throw line. Edsson Picazo played solid defense while tacking on five points for the East. While Los Fresnos will say goodbye to some of their beloved Falcon Basketball Players, the future looks bright for the Fighting Falcons of the Hardwood.
Although missing the playoffs in that season, Dallas has made it to the postseason the last two seasons, where they were eliminated in the first round by the Los Angeles Clippers in both seasons. This year, The Mavericks have been red hot with a solid offense consisting of Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, Tim Hardaway Jr. On the defensive side of things, Maxi Kleber, Dwight Powell and Boban Marjanovic. Dallas is led by first year Head Coach and former Dallas Maverick Jason Kidd. Kidd, who was a part of the Mavericks 2011 NBA Finals Run, looks to take the Mavericks back to the finals, this time as a coach. Dallas first faced off against the 5th seed Utah Jazz, after a back and forth series, Dallas won in game 6 to win the series 4-2. Dallas was then slated
against the defending Western Conference Champion Phoenix Suns. In a competitive series, Phoenix went ahead 2-0, then Games three and four went back to Dallas where the Mavericks defended the home front. The common trend in the series was that the home team was always victorious. Game Seven saw Doncic and Dinwiddie combine for 65 points as the Mavericks won game seven 123-90. Dallas now has a date with the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Finals. The Warriors have gone to the Finals five times in the last eight years. The Warriors last went to the Western Conference Finals in 2019. Dallas last went to the Western Conference Finals in 2011, the season which saw them capture the NBA Finals over the Miami Heat.
Conference Finals are Set! By Ruben Rodriguez Los Fresnos News
The 2022 NBA playoffs have been full of surprises since the opening play-in tournament. Now after a grueling month of high intensity basketball, only four teams remain alive on their quest to capture the Larry O’ Brien Trophy. For one of those teams, the road has been very rough. That team being the Dallas Mavericks. Entering the NBA Playoffs as the fourth seed in the Western Conference with a record of 52-30. The Dallas Mavericks were automatically placed into a first round bye aftering entering as one of the top four teams in the west alongside Phoenix, Golden State, and Memphis. Dallas has been a prime contender since 2018-2019 with the acquisition of young star Luka Doncic.

Poetry Poetry is not creation but the creator For it breathes life to revive the lifeless. On great Angel wings it lifts the hopeless. It is heard in the joyful laughter of children. Its loving message aids the forgotten and fallen. Poetry is truth without guile, a lover’s smile, Sunshine of the soul to gently guide our way, The most wonderful treasure that blesses our day, And… In poetry is found the purest essence of God.

LFHS Students Engage In Career Expo
Donald Henderson, a Financial Advisor Emilio Flores Los Fresnos News Los Fresnos Highschool students had the opportunity to hear about people from all different career types share what they do, and why. The event was Monday through Friday, excluding Wednesday, and had three speakers each day. Each lecture lasted about an hour and fifteen minutes, allowing questions on how much each of them makes if there are any degrees required, and how they personally found themselves in that specific occupation. Talking with Brian Martinez, Mathematics Department Chairman at the Los Fresnos Highschool, he explains “Our district added the Financial Mathematics course a couple of years ago in order to better serve our Senior students.” He says, “Quite often when I describe the course to people they say that they wish they had gotten the opportunity to take it.” From calculating your paycheck to making a decision on loans. “The expo itself was part of a 3 piece final designed to have the students walk away with a real and useful product. The students started by crafting a resume, we followed that up with the expo, and
finally, the students are making a budget based on their immediate earning potential.” The lectures themselves ranged from all different speakers, Martin Magallan, manager at Zarsky Lumber, Pete Maldonado, General Manager at Walmart, Chad Bresson pastor of The Table of Los Fresnos, Mark Milum, City Manager, Donald Henderson, Dr. Gonzalo Salazar, LFCISD Superintendent, Belia Gomez Cisneros, CPA out of Brownsville and David Armendariz, State Farm for Los Fresnos. They all had different points to share and didn’t shy away from sharing how their personal career started. Where they started and how they made it to where they are now. Each Presentor gave their own bits of truth and experience. Here are some of the things the speakers shared. Val Champion, Executive Director for the Los Fresnos Chamber of Commerce shared, that when he was offered Executive Director Position he accepted saying because “I thought I could in some way enhance our Los Fresnos Community.” Champion says, “I have been fortunate to have lived, worked, and broke bread with diverse cultures.” He shares that both him and his family
have been blessed through his career. but he says “the most important is that we are all people and that this is a people world!” “I was fiercely loyal to my employers, and I always performed to the very best of my God-given abilities.” Champion says, “This way of life opened many opportunities to find out ‘what is on the other side of the mountain.” David Armendariz, the current President at Los Fresnos Rotary club and State Farm agent of Los Fresnos said concerning the career expo that it was a “Great event. We had 12 Rotarian volunteers. Kayla, Luis, and I wanted to make this Career Expo A little different. A big thanks to Kayla for taking the reins, and pulling this off in such a short period of time. We met at the Rancho driving range to discuss a strategy. We wanted to make this expo a little more interesting by getting the kids engaged.” Armendariz says, “We discussed The journey we took to arrive where we are now in our occupation.” He highlights the expo saying “I believe in the end it was a very successful expo. Looking forward to doing it again next year and making it bigger and better.” Donald Henderson is a financial advisor and highlights the main parts of his job being Manage
David Armendariz, State Farm agent and current president of the Los Fresnos Rotary Club
accounts, and investing other people's money to get them a return. Henderson speaks on what you need to have his job: Need to have a degree, then you have to build relationships with people. He mentions working for a company versus working for yourself and says there’s a lot more responsibility working for yourself, but when done right can be very rewarding. He also stresses Communication skills and getting involved in the community. Mark Milum, Los Fresnos City manager shares insight on the four different personality types. Milum says you have the Driver type, Expressive type, Amiable type, and Analytical type. None are a bad type, but as he explains finding a strong working team, you often find a balance of these four types… The driver is someone that wants to get things done, the analytical type tends to not like changes and enjoys details written down, the amiable is warm and friendly and needs personal affirmation, and the expressive tends to be more creative, casual about details, moves from one task to another. Brian Martinez shares "To summarize the week, the common thread was drive and determination. No matter the field, every speaker shared how they persevered through setbacks, personal difficulties, or significant career changes. We hope to continue to grow this event with more speakers, more industries, and more students." Martinez says that between the Rotary and teachers Jon Bush, and Fausto Atkinson, they have worked really hard the last couple of years to tweak and improve the course,” he says “And we have more plans to come. Next year, we hope to expand the expo with
more presenters from more industries and maybe even get our students walking out the door with real job opportunities.” It really has been an effort of the whole community. From the
teachers from Los Fresnos Highschool to the Rotary club, and all the individuals that spoke from different occupations. Every single one had a part in it and had the students engaged.

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter the words, but to live by them." - John F Kennedy
“LET HER FLY” Let her colors grace the sky, Let the people see her fly. Praise the colors of the red, the white, and blue, Our soldiers died for her, for me, and you. The flag that’s called by all, ‘Old Glory’ is now an institution, so unique with its’ own story. For her, a lot of good men gave their lives; for freedom and for peace, that was the price. She represents America, she represents the dream. What our forefathers once envisioned, we have slowly seen. She represents the freedom and respect she earned, In wars so costly, now the lessons learned. She flew in many wars, so brilliantly, so proud, Her presence there was well felt, no doubt. She flew in war, abroad as well as here at home, now her honor and her pride is wide world known. She is the symbol of a freedom world, still as beautiful, as when she first unfurled; displayed in every town and city in the U.S.A. magnificently waving...any given day No other flag has ever been more recognized, nor more respected or even idolized, as that of our united fifty states... They say she even flies at Heaven’s gates. DUKE MARTELL
