NEW TO YOU

Love this…

If events on the calendar can be regarded as a barometer as to just how buoyant the rod and custom scene is, we can only say the mercury is rising almost daily. For whatever reason, 2023 is rapidly becoming the year of new events. Here’s a snapshot of a handful of them available with no pitch fee, just the £10 per person admission fee (plus £1 booking fee). www.mphvintagesprint.co.uk

Gone but not forgotten

Free for all

Sunday 30 April is the date for the Wakefield Classic and American Car and Bike Show. It will run from 10:30 am in the city centre (postcode WF1 1HG). All rods, customs, classics and bikes are welcome, in fact the organisers will welcome any vehicle deemed to be of interest. The show is organised by Wakefield BID and it’s totally free for both exhibitors and visitors. www.wakefieldbid.co.uk

Firing up

Seems the guys behind Flat Caps and Ferrets have itchy feet and can’t wait until September, as they’re organising an early season warm up. Details are still sketchy but it will be known as Spring Fire Up. The dates are 5-7 May and it will take place at the same Huddersfield venue as the late season event. Facebook: Flat Caps & Ferrets

Sprint to it

The MPH 1/8th Mile Vintage Sprint is on Sunday 25 June at RAF Deenethorpe, a former WWII American Airfield near Corby, Northants. The event is open to pre-’49 American cars and motorcycles, with admission strictly by pre-paid ticket only. Numbers are restricted and as tickets went on sale 28 February it’s best to get in quick. The aptly named Festival Of The Dead is billed as a celebration of car marques no longer with us. Presented by ClassicLine Insurance and MoreThanPolish.com, the show is primarily aimed at classic car enthusiasts but we’re sure owners of rods and customs will be welcome especially if the base vehicle make is no longer in production. It takes place on Sunday 2 July at Burghley House, Stamford, Lincs, with all proceeds from the day going to the armed forces charity Mission Motorsport. www.festivalofthedead.uk

Krazy days

Krazy Horse launched their new event in style, with a poster designed by Ryan Roadkill. Known simply as The Weekender, it takes place on 7-9 July at Bardwell, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. The event promises a curated motorcycle and car show, music festival, beer festival, specialised vendor village and a local businesses food village. Admission tickets cover single days or the full 3 days and camping is available. Bands and official sponsorship announcements will follow in the near future. www.krazyhorse.co.uk/pages/ krazy-horse-festival

‘I don’t want it to look like a Noddy car.’ We doubt John Williams’ wife was unhappy with the outcome when his Pop came back from paint…
