OPPORTUNITY noun

an amount of time or a situation in which something can be done

opportunity ISSUE Opportunity is all around us. In the new school year it is a great idea to take into consideration all of the opportunities offered to students at SHS. The opportunities at SHS have never been greater than they are this year and so many of them are new. There is a kind of opportunity for every student. Taking advantage of opportunities could look different for every student, however the important part is that each student can shape their year to

their individual needs. Whether that is by getting involved in a club or just finding a new book to read through a teacher or the hub, people can find a way to get involved at SHS. For this reason our first issue in the new school year is focused on the opportunities at SHS. We figured that there would be no better way to welcome everyone back to the school than to show them how to make their experience great.

The Leaflet, the official web newsmagazine of Sycamore High School, serves as an educational tool in the training of student journalists. We provide information and editorial leadership concerning school, national and world issues. We also provide a public forum for the exchange of ideas and viewpoints and give coverage to newsworthy events directly related to our diverse school population. These viewpoints are purely from the staff of The Leaflet, and not the administration.

OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE A LAPTOP

Computer science teacher Mr. Marvin Hoffert said, “I think it could be a good or bad thing. If used appropriately, safely, productively, and targeted towards class, it’s a good thing. However, they could be a distraction and take students off task. It might also become a management issue for teachers. It could give students a false notion that just because they have a device they are a productive and safe user. My fear is that there are some students who have a device but aren’t getting the proper instruction on how to safely utilize their device.”

Not many schools have any 3D printers and it’s crazy to think about how many sycamore has. I love the fact that any student that takes engineering class and learns about the 3D printers can print. AP EURO TRIP

Junior Anita Pan said, “I loved getting to experience the places and countries we read and discussed about in class because it felt like I was reliving history. My favorite place was Rome, Italy, especially the Colosseum and the Roman Forum.
