TEEING OFF WI TH R OB CL AR K In July we turn our heads to the Club Championship. With the growth of the club, it should make for a very interesting tournament. It is important to understand the Club Championship is for all levels of golfers. Of course, we want to find out who our best golfers are at the club, but we also want to know who our best golfers are at each talent level. The Championship is flighted by ability so you will be competing against players of similar handicap. The cost is $25 to enter, and we will have tee times starting at 8:00 a.m., both Saturday and Sunday. For those in the Championship flight, they will play Friday afternoon as well. Tee times for the Championship flight will start at 2:00 p.m., Friday. The divisions will include Mens, Ladies, Senior and Super Seniors. I hope you will sign up to play. It is great to see all the activity around the club and course. With the increase in play comes increase in wear on the golf course. Both our members and employees take great pride in our course. With this pride comes some level of personal responsibility. We all can do a few things to make it a better experience for all of us. Here are just a few: Rake bunkers when you play from the bunker. I am seeing too many areas that remain unraked after players hit shots. If you are playing with juniors, please educate them on the importance of raking after hitting. Repair ball marks on greens. A responsible member looks for ball marks to repair as it is always common courtesy to repair yours and one other ball mark on the green. Fill your divots. All carts are provided with green sand to fill your divots after a shot. Fill yours and any others you see around the area. Doing these three things will make a huge difference in the experience for the golfers behind you. Sometimes that golfer will be you!

The Battle, our last major for the golf season will be held August 14 and 15. Find a member partner and play in what is always a member favorite event. This Member-Member is two days of four formats and a play-off that always brings out the best in the championship. Sign up early as only the first 60 teams get a spot in the event. Nine Wine and Dine continues to grow into a great social golf event. If you have yet to play in one, make sure you mark you calendar. It is a great way to meet new friends. The entry fee is $50 per couple, and it includes golf and dinner. Upcoming dates are July 16 and 30 and August 20. The Ledges Juniors are having a great summer season with lots of playing opportunities. We are seeing some great progress. If you would like to learn more about our junior golf program, please reach out to us in the golf shop. We have a fully stocked Pro-Shop to meet your apparel needs. If you or your company needs a corporate solution to something, please let us save you money. We can source many things for you and in most cases can save you money while providing a better product. If you need gifts for special clients or apparel/ uniforms for employees let us give you a presentation on options for you and your company. We are also becoming the place to be fitted for proper golf equipment in North Alabama. The Ledges Academy is now considered the premier fitting facility in the state of Alabama with a Master Fitter and a top 100 fitter at your service. Contact the Pro-Shop to set up a fitting appointment.

GOLF NEWS

JIM HOWELL'S COURSE UPDATE

The Agronomy staff has been working tirelessly the past several months. The course was perfectly prepared for The Huntsville Championship, showcasing The Ledges with great course conditioning that resulted in rave reviews from the players, caddies, spectators and PGA TOUR officials. The staff learned a lot in preparation for this large-scale event and will be prepared for next year’s championship. Our team is excited to have many members who have recently joined The Ledges. If we have not met, please introduce yourselves whenever it is convenient. The course is getting a lot of play this year and most likely will continue for years to come. With this in mind I am asking every golfer to take time to do the following golf etiquette duties: 1. Repair ball marks on the greens and fix other marks 2. Fill divots on tee, fairway and rough areas. (sand is supplied on each cart) 3. Try to use mulch areas to enter and exit the fairways. The grassed areas on the course are there to protect from erosion during rain 4. Pick up any trash on the course 5. Rake bunkers when exiting areas Thank you for your help in keeping our course beautiful.

MIS SION ACCOMPLISHED Through the support of a dedicated ownership team, engaged members, a hardworking staff, the full-service event team Knight Eady, and hundreds of volunteers, the Huntsville Championship successfully launched after two years of planning.

DEDICATED OWNER S Over twenty years ago, Steve and April Denney alongside Dr. Bill and Jean Salter made a commitment to the city of Huntsville, the game of golf and to The Ledges. This commitment was to help elevate the city, foster the game of golf, and reinvest in the club and course. To be selected by the PGA to host a Korn Ferry event, is a testament to their hard work and sacrifice, holding true to those initial goals, commitments, and dreams.

ENG AGED MEMBER S Losing your course and clubhouse for a week is a sacrifice, however, our members showed up every day not only to support the tournament as a spectator, but a large majority served as volunteers for the tournament.

THE HUNTSVILLE CHAMPIONSHIP

ALL-STAR STAFF All hands were on deck as The Ledges team worked hard not only ensuring the tournament was successful, but true to Ledges culture, the goal was to earn the title of the Premier Stop on the Korn Ferry Tour. Mornings began at 4:00 a.m., for most every department and the nights ended around 10:00 p.m. Also vital to the tournament's success was Knight Eady, a Birmingham-based sports event team, who helped bring the Huntsville Championship to life.

A SUCCE S SF UL L AUNCH Before the tournament, ticket sales were estimated at $5,000, but Huntsville showed up and sales totaled $18,200. In addition, the total attendance for tournament week was over 5,513, a high number for any Korn Ferry event, especially a first-year event.

WELLNE S S

9 0% OF PE OPLE QUI T THE GYM AF TER THR EE MON THS Written by Daniel Ghaleb I believe that the majority of people who quit exercising have all the right intentions when it comes to fitness but get discouraged after the first month or two for several reasons. The following are the most common:

01

LIF E IS HE CTIC

02

NO ACCOUN TABILI T Y

03

UNR E ALISTIC E X PE CTATIONS

04

UNENJOYABLE WOR KOU T S

Using lack of time or a busy schedule as an excuse is just that, an excuse. If your mindset is that there’s no time for exercise, well then there won’t be. A good fitness trainer can show you a variety of options on how you can squeeze in a good workout in a minimal amount of time.

A study done by Stanford University in 2010 found how important social support, even in small doses, was to people trying to create and stick to new fitness goals or habits. When I served in the Navy I made a pact with two other sailors on my ship to workout every day. I can tell you that there were days I or my shipmates didn’t want to workout, either due to fatigue, or a desire to get onshore after a couple of weeks out at sea. At least one of them would drag me over to the gym and by the end of the session I was always grateful that they had. It’s easy to quit when we’ve only made a pact with ourselves. A fitness trainer or friend is a great way to push through those days you want to skip the workout.

If you have decided to make a big fitness pledge to hit the gym 7 days a week, but have had little to no experience working out, history has shown that you are most likely going to quit. Instead, start small and work your way to more intense workouts or more sessions per week. I would even suggest that you leave while you are still craving more. Again, a good fitness trainer can help you create a good starting program.

People quit exercising because they get bored, either because of the equipment they use or the lack of exercise variety. An experienced trainer will have a wide variety of exercises and programs designed to meet your specific goals. They can help you find what you enjoy and help tweak your workouts. There’s no exact way to stay fit, everyone is different with different abilities and goals. It’s all about understanding your excuses and preconceived barriers to fitness, and crushing them in their tracks. Of course, if it were very easy, everyone would be the fittest version of themselves. The key to staying committed is finding your motivation that will allow you to pursue your physical fitness dreams.
