ROB CLARK The season is right around the corner and before you know it, we will have green grass and warmer days. We hope you are ready for some golf this season because several activities are on the horizon in the next two months. If you have a child who is interested in our nine-month golf program please reach out to the golf staff. We will get your child in the right group and have them learning this great game. You can learn about each division more in depth in the 2021 golf booklet. We will still have our summer junior camp for those who only have a schedule for the summer months. Our Tournament schedule starts with our Superintendent’s Revenge 4 person Scramble on March 27 with a 9:30 a.m., shotgun start. You can form your own team or sign up individually and we will make a team for you. This is a new twist to this event, and we hope with all our new golfers we will get a great turnout. This will be open to all golfers and will include a grab and go breakfast and a small tee gift with prizes to winning teams. Get ready to see how hard Jim Howell's team can make the course.
In April we will kick off our ladies program with a Ladies Social on April 7 at the Academy and April 21 we will have a fashion show, Trunk show and golf contests. Call the Pro-Shop for more information or to sign up. Hope to see you this year for the ladies program. The Pro-Shop has new arrivals daily of apparel to look your best while you are playing and plenty of apparel that can be worn off the course as well. If you have any needs for your company, we do a wide variety of corporate products and usually save companies significant amounts of money. There are many members who take advantage of this service so if you have a need or have any questions regarding corporate business contact the Pro-Shop and we will be glad to prepare a quote for you and your company. We are excited about 2021 and are here to help you improve your golf game any way we can. Let us know how we can help. You can always reach me at rclark@theledges.com or the shop number at 256.883.4191

JIM HOWELL
The Agronomy staff has been very productive the past several months working on detail projects and improvements for the 2021 season. This winter has been dryer than normal which has allowed us to stay active.
to assist my staff in the preparations for the tournament that week if anyone is interested. If you would like to help, contact me at jhowell@theledges.com. You do not have to commit to the whole week and we will have morning and afternoon shifts available.
We will continue working on bunkers each year improving depths of sand to be consistent. Typically, the bottoms of the bunker should average 4-5” and the faces should maintain a 2-3” depth to eliminate the “fried egg” lye. Over the past two seasons we changed our raking method by compacting the faces and maintaining the bottoms by hand raking which has made a consistent improvement. This year we removed all the sand from # 3, 5, and 9, and then added new sand at the proper depths. Each year we plan to complete this stage in several bunkers which have aged sand from the past seasons.
As the season resumes, remember to get back in the routine of fixing ball marks, raking bunkers and filling divots. With the increased play last year, the greens were under some stress from foot traffic and weather adversities. We sodded some of these traffic areas early this year to get them back in play for the 2021 year.
As you all know the Huntsville Championship is at the end of April. I am in search of some volunteers
Our plan this year is to needle tine all the greens during the summer stress months, like what we did in 2020. This really helps relieve compaction and drought stress and does not affect playability after we roll them. Enjoy the golf season!
