GOLF NEWS

It has been a long season for the Agronomy team, however all the turf stands on the course held through the summer very well. It was nice to have a reasonably cool summer with adequate rainfall to keep the course in excellent condition.

JIM HOWELL'S COURSE UPDATE

2021 accomplishments for the Agronomy team: • We renovated 22 bunkers with the Better Billy Bunker System and replenished 18 with new sand • We sodded several areas on the greens with A-1 bent grass • The regrassing on approaches was completed by removing existing stands of Bent and Bermuda and then sodding 2 acres with TiffTuff on holes 1, 2, 8, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18 • Both South Range Tees were regrassed by stripping existing stands and regrassing with Tahoma -31 • We replaced 98 sprinkler heads around greens to improve water coverage • The 22-year-old pump station was replaced with a state-of-the-art system which is controlled by GPS • We renovated putting green by reshaping and enlarging and then seeded it with 007XL Bent • The Championship Tee on hole 1 was renovated • We added a new tournament tee on hole 6 with walkway for players • Extended parking along hole 10 was added • A new Championship Tee on hole 8 was added • We controlled army worm infestation The team has done a remarkable job this year by making these improvements happen for the club and its members. We have already started prepping for next season's Championship and golf season. We will keep you posted. Regards, Jim Howell

TEEING OFF WI TH R OB CL AR K This year has been a fantastic year for The Ledges. As we approach another record year for rounds, I look back on what has seemed like a very fast year. We are about to start our planning for 2022 and it feels as if we just kick started our 2021 season. There are a lot of headlines from this golf year. I want to start out by talking about record sign ups for all our golf tournaments. Thank you so much for supporting our events. With this kind of support, we look to build on some new ideas for 2022. The Korn Ferry Tour event was well received by our membership and to this day I still get people coming up to me and telling me how beautiful of a place we have, and they are very thankful we are hosting the event. The growth in our teaching programs have been phenomenal. Both the juniors and the ladies programs are continuing to develop into successful grow the game initiatives. Our couples Nine Wine and Dine had huge support throughout the year which is a catalyst for getting some of our new golfers out on the course. Lastly, I can't say enough about how good the course has held up to all this activity. This is a testament to our Agronomy team and how hard they work to provide an excellent place for all of us to play this great game. BLUE DELTA JEANS FITTING NIGHT: Thursday, November 4, 5-8PM From the Mississippi Delta, comes an exclusive opportunity to be custom-fit for raw denim by the brand Blue Delta. Blue Delta makes one-of-a-kind, hand-made, high-quality, American-made denim. The process is very easy, once they get your 24 measurements, they build your jeans and deliver them in two weeks. There are several different styles of jeans and pants to choose from, and everything is customized, down to the stitch color. If you are like me and have a hard time finding pants that fit you properly, come by and check it out.

CHRISTMAS SALE: Tuesday, November 30, 5-8PM Shop new apparel, equipment and accessories in the Ballroom while enjoying The Ledges Christmas Tree Lighting. We will have apparel for everyone: golfers, non-golfers, women, men, children. All purchases are eligible for the Christmas sale discount that night and as always, we will gift wrap them for free. We will have some great items by Peter Millar, Holderness and Bourne, Johnnie O and many more. This is a great opportunity to get your holiday shopping out of the way for that special person in your life. This is also a great time to use up all your shop credit which must be used by the end of the year. FROST BITE OPEN: December 18, benefiting the Lincoln Village Ministries Last year as a club we raised over $20,000 for Lincoln Village Ministries, granting two full scholarships. Our goal for 2021 is to do the same. Come out and play with your group or sign up individually and we will pair you in a group. The format is Dog Fight points, and the cost is $50 a person. All the proceeds will go to the Lincoln Village Ministries. As always if you can't play and would like to donate, it is tax deductible and will be going to a very good cause. It was my privilege to team up with them this summer, following the first Frost Bite Open, by offering them a summer-long junior golf camp. It was such a great ministry, and I was able to see firsthand what you were able to accomplish through your giving and playing in the Frost Bite Open. We appreciate all your support.

JUNIOR SPOTLIGHT This has been an incredible year for our juniors and our junior program. Several young players were introduced to the game through the LA Juniors program. Part of this program is to develop juniors into great people as well as good golfers. Within that group, some joined the PGA Junior Golf League, and began to play an organized game on a small competitive level. The Ledges PGA Junior Golf League team was young, but held their own. We hope this will be the seed that sets the next several years in motion and will result in a strong team. Many of our older juniors participated in the Alabama NWFL PGA Junior Tour, including Drew Dodgen, Sam Rice, and Wilson Schmitz. Other Juniors who played in larger AJGA, AJGO include Morgan Slaton, Luke Lunsford, Andrew Hinson, Teagan Miller and Trent Trousdale. Trent ended up winning the Club Championship this year at The Ledges. Many of these players have collegiate futures ahead of them and we are so proud of them. I want to highlight a few of them for things they did this year. Wilson Schmitz has had a great year of growth. It is proof that hard work pays off. Wilson had an excellent junior golf season and ended up wining the local PGA Drive Chip and Putt and advanced to the second level in Montgomery where he won the Driver portion of the event. Morgan Slaton qualified for the National Notah Begay Junior Invitational by shooting 62 on the final day to win the qualifier. That win will allow him to play in the national event scheduled for November 13-15 and will be shown on the Golf Channel. Good luck, Morgan! We have several former juniors playing collegiate golf this year. You can follow them on the college golf site golfstat.com. Michaela Morard has started her Sophomore year at Southern California and will be playing for the Trojans. Savannah Johnson is in her senior year at Washington and Lee and has shot two personal best tournament rounds this year. Evan Devine will be playing on the golf team at Rhodes College and Janie Jackson won the Symetra Tour event in September at RTJ Prattville to gain her LPGA Tour Card. In the next couple of years you will see many more juniors move into the college ranks. We are proud and excited to see this happen.
