More than just a ‘Fringe’ August and Edinburgh, then it must be the Edinburgh Festival. We all know about the Edinburgh Fringe but do you know that this is one of the largest, if not the largest cultural event in the world and it takes place right here on our shores.
With well over 3,000 events taking place at the Fringe you’ll have to plan your own programme carefully, from comedy to circus, from theatre to dance, from musicals to music, from photographic and arts exhibitions; the Fringe is a great opportunity to see the stars of the future alongside more established artists. Think this is for adults only, then think again as there are many adventures for children to engage with too. Edinburgh itself has a plethora of beautiful buildings and places to visit from St Giles Cathedral to the Scottish Parliament building, a walk along the Royal Mile is a trip through history. If you dare, take a tour along Mary King’s Close, the Vaults or visit Greyfriars Kirkyard where you’ll find ‘Greyfriars Bobby’ and perhaps evidence of the exploits of Burke and Hare!
To give you a just a flavour: this year sees the 50th anniversary of the Edinburgh Festival Chorus who will not only provide 50 performances during the festival but open the festival with the ‘Harmonium Project’, a free outdoor event that will combine a series of amazing animations projected onto the Usher Hall, as John Adam’s choral work unfolds, performed by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the Edinburgh Festival Chorus, conducted by Peter Oundijan; audiences will be able to participate in the opening event from Festival Square.
If you need to take some quiet and peaceful time, a visit to Princes Street Gardens or Edinburgh Zoo where you’ll find our Panda’s along with the famous penguins may just do the trick; or a take a walk up to Arthur’s Seat where you can take in the most amazing panoramic view of the city and the Firth of Forth beyond.
With opera, ballet and classical theatre taking place alongside contemporary dance, theatre and music, the Edinburgh Festival brings together a host of renowned

What is the most rewarding thing about working in this industry?
“Witnessing the happiness of brides and grooms when their special day has gone above and beyond their expectations.” What is your favourite colour?
What has been the biggest lesson of your career so far?
“Good Communication is key for the successful operation of any hotel.” What are your professional goals and dreams?
“I always used to dream about owning my own restaurant or a small B&B near a beach. A lot of people think of retiring and running a bed & breakfast, most people though don’t realise how much work is involved.”
“Purple” What is your favourite holiday destination and why?
“Cornwall. I have 2 young children, we have been on a couple of holidays now and found Cornwall to be a beautiful area while having plenty of places to keep the kids amused.” What was the last film you saw at the cinema and who did you go with?
“Mad Max Fury Road. I went with my fiancé as he is a big fan of the original films. We both thought it looked stunning and was action packed right from the start.”
What do you love most about your job?
“Getting to know our regular guests. It is great when you can come to work and have a laugh while still being professional.”
What is your favourite meal?
“Beef in Black Bean Sauce with Mushroom Fried Rice.”
What is the funniest moment you have witnessed?
“My boss being ‘Jedi Mind Tricked’ to sit on a motorbike that had been set up for a wedding in our Ballroom. You would definitely not expect to see him on one.”
