The one bedroom apartment was on the 6th floor which meant that there was very little traffic noise that could be heard from the room. The room set up itself was great, there was a double bed in the bedroom which also had a inbuilt cupboard for provision for hanging and drawers for clothes.

Rowley Manor Hotel Hull, East Yorkshire

“Perfect for a weekend away from it all

Featured Hotel

Rooms from

This is a true "country house hotel" as the title suggests. The hotel is situated near the tiny village of Little Weighton in East Yorkshire, with nowhere to go to without a car other than walks around the grounds. Escapism is the key it is away from the rest of the world. It is a small hotel, with super friendly staff who treat you like old friends, whilst giving you the space and privacy you appreciate. We went for one night and stayed in the bridal suite which really is a huge room, full of a range of antique furniture including a huge 4 poster bed. The room had a national trust-type country house feel - not modern in any way - from the radiators, to the lamps. Huge en-suite bathroom with big corner bath - lovely! The food in the restaurant - both evening meal and breakfast - was stunning. Very good indeed.

Amazing tales from Infotel Solutions CEO The Retired & Crazy Epic Adventure Overland from London to New York

round the world trip

Ann Cordner Infotel Solutions CEO

On 27th March 2011 Ann Cordner began mounting the steps of a coach which is set to travel through Europe into Moscow. This is only the start of a three month adventure taking her through some of the most remote and beautiful areas of the world. Described as her ‘epic adventure over land from London to New York’, the 87 day trip began on Sunday March 27th at Cleopatras Needle where she took her seat on the Oz Bus, a company dedicated to providing wonderful adventurous travel to destinations such as Australia, Beijing, Bangkok, Africa, South America and in Ann’s case - New York USA. But how and why would someone decide to do such a thing? Ann explains; “The madness started when my friend mentioned that she knew a guy who was on an "Ozbus" trip and writing a blog. I read the blog, thought, ‘I could do that’ and then made the most stupid mistake of my life. I started telling people that I was going. Before I knew what was happening I had paid my deposit, met Nick (the blog writer), ordered a rucksack, arranged my vaccinations and committed myself to three months of craziness”.

Trans Siberian Express This is the morning that we go to the next phase of our journey - day 17 of our 87 day trip. The TransSiberian Express! Dadada!! To recap – we board the train at lunch time and spend the next 4 nights in a four person sleeper compartment. There are no showers and one toilet at either end of the carriage which can't be used when the train is standing in the station or when we are at a border crossing. There will a certain amount of pre-planning involved in getting this right! Each carriage has a babushka in attendance and it is probably sensible to befriend her because I guess that the power sockets to recharge our batteries are within her "gift". Our four bunk cabin on the train is very minute, probably about 6’ across. There is luggage storage in boxes underneath the bottom bunk which lifts up to gain access and there is also a storage cubby hole on the top bunks. It keeps the cabin tidy but it’s a nightmare when you want to get to anything. Whenever you want anything everyone has to stand outside in the corridor. The first reaction on boarding the train was elation. This is the next phase of the journey and very different to the previous leg. No more having to lug our luggage around from place to place. Although, having said that, we were sad to say goodbye to our bus because this had been our own space for several hours between hostels. We now had four days of staying put in one place. Read more

LET THE TRAIN TAKE THE STRAIN We boarded this train last night at 2150. It has Mongolian staff who are much friendlier that the Russian babushkas. Mind you, that wouldn't be difficult. This train has no restaurant or trolley service and there weren’t even any stops where we could get food off of the platform. Luckily most of us had nibbles to get us through. 1330 we arrived at the Russian/Mongolia border. At 1400 there was a distinct panic for the loos which had been locked, as usual, 20 minutes before arriving at the station. We were told that we could leave the train and return at 1600 for a customs check. Read more

Mongolia We were woken up at 0430 after a totally unexpected freezing night on the train. The first train we were on from Moscow to Irkutsk was so hot that everyone slept with just a sheet over them so last night caught us all unawares. To get to my blanket I would have had to wake up Jonny in the top bunk because it was in the top cubby hole and I wasn't about to do that. I did consider getting dressed but it would have meant waking everyone up and that wasn’t on either. So I just lay awake cursing the Russians instead. Luckily enough the night was short because we were knocked up (as it were) at 0430 for our 0610 arrival at Ulan Batar. We were met at the station by the most hospitable folk from the Golden Gobi Hostel. They bussed us there in there modern minibus, introduced us to the family who all work there, cooked us breakfast and then took us on a tour. The first place we visited was the Gandan Monastery. The first Buddhist Monastery in Mongolia. Read more

Trans-Mongolian Express Well, here we are again, literally on a slow train to China. Express is obviously a misnomer because this train ain't going no-where fast! We set off at 7.20 am and 12 hours later arrived at the Mongolian/Chinese border where our wheels were changed! The two customs processes and the complicated procedure to uncouple our carriages, shunt them into a workshop, lift them up on hydraulic lifts, uncouple the wheels and replace took 5 hours. More to the point, 5 hours with no toilet facilities. Apart, that is, on the 15 minute journey in no mans’ land between Mongolia and China when our kindly Chinese attendant opened the loos and allowed us 1 minute each to go about our business. It was hectic but very helpful. He was contravening the regulation which states that the loos should be locked for 20 minutes before until 20 minutes after each station because it flushes straight onto the track. Read more

Beijing, China We were met off of the train in the early afternoon by a very personable guide who will stay with us during our visit to China. He is Chinese and introduced himself as Gary! On the bus to the hotel (which, incidentally, is brand new) he apologised that we would not be staying at best hotel, but that it was in the best location, just off of Tian-animen Square. His opinion was that we weren’t in China to stay in the best hotels, but to see the best things! My heart sank. This sounded like the pre-amble to us staying in another crumbling, sub-standard, dirty hostel! On the way to the hotel we passed Tian-animen Square. Gary asked us what we knew of the “incident” there. He said unfortunately a “few” people had died but the student standing in front of the tank had not been one of them. No-one knew what had happened to him. He assumed that he now lived in another country under another name! Imagine our delight when we pulled into the parking area of a very modern looking hotel. But we have been fooled like this before. The one we stayed in in Novgorod had a beautiful reception area, great location, but was basically a hovel. However, this hotel was great. Good en-suite rooms, wonderful customer service, first class restaurant facilities and, above all, it was clean. Read more

The Great Wall of China Another long day in prospect. After eating a real hotel breakfast instead of the usual gruel and dry bread we set off at 8 am for the Great Wall of China. On the way I was again struck by the countryside. We have now travelled several hundred miles by train and coach through out the length and breadth of NE China and every square meter of ground has been neatly cultivated no matter how remote the region. The Great Wall is what you would expect – great. I walked the Great Wall of China (albeit a small part) – wow, wow, wow. We then went to visit the Ming Tombs – wow, wow, wow. One bucket list sight after another. This part of the trip has been absolutely amazing. Read more

The Diamond Princess We are travelling steerage in inside 4 person cabins on this 5* cruise liner. It is simply a means of transport go get us from Asia to North America, but the luxury is appreciated. I had intended to use this time to upload photographs but the cost of going online is horrendous and the satellite connection is not good. So I will upload photographs when I get more time and a better (free) connection. In the meantime I am emailing text to my good friend Luke back at the office to do the business for me. Thanks Luke. You’re a star. Read more

Friday, May 13, 2011 - Russia

DIAMOND PRINCESS Day 8 Yesterday we pulled into Vladivostok for the day but I decided to stay on board. Nothing appealing about Russia and when everyone came back on board they said much the same. Nothing to buy, nothing to see but at least, unusually for Russia, the people were nice. They don’t often see cruise liners in Vlaivostok and we only stopped off because our two stops in Japan had been cancelled due to the nuclear power plant problems caused by the tsunami. Imagine how bad I felt when Russian singers and dancers came on board to wish us goodbye and people said that as we set sail the dockside was lined with well wishers waving us goodbye. Jo, one of our group said that a Russian man standing next to her said “they have so little and we have so much”. I felt really bad about that. I should have gone ashore and spent some money. DIAMOND PRINCESS DAY - 9 Three days since we were last ashore with six more to go before we reach Seward in Alaska on Friday, 2146 nautical miles away. It makes me wonder why the first explorers to sail these seas ever bothered. What were they thinking of? It's such a vast area, bigger than any other ocean, even bigger than all the land in all the world and we are in a massive ocean going liner with stabilisers and, they were on little ships. navigating by the stars, waiting to fall off the edge of the word which they thought at that time was flat! It must have been very scary. Today we sighted dolphins and whales. Very exciting. We are currently sailing at a speed of 18.4 nautical miles just south of the Bering Sea and the Allusion Islands. The temperature is 40F and the sea is moderate with waves of between 4’ to 7.5’. When we boarded in Beijing the temperature was up in the 70’s! No more "movies under the stars" for me, it’s far too cold, although they are some mad people still torturing themselves with the freezing cold conditions outside. I prefer to view my movies in the theatre, much more comfortable and warm! Today I saw a great film called Fair Game the true story about the lies the American Government told their people about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Read more

Infotel has been a great find for our business. In terms of service, system use and value for money, they are way ahead of the other booking agents we use. Other, larger agents give us good levels of business, but the service is often poor, and the cost is high. The annual fee we paid to Infotel 5 months ago has given us a return of around 4800% so far in terms of business received, which is incredible. We have recently linked their system to our own website too, and as a result we are seeing this increase further. These guys are good and I can't recommend them highly enough!"
