With Michael Hodgkinson, Director of Key Accounts at Hallmark Hotels
How long have you worked at Hallmark Hotels? “I have worked at Hallmark Hotels for seven years as Director of Key Accounts. Although previously worked as a Regional Sales Manager for four years with the company before moving to another position in the industry for three years.”
What attracted you to the leisure industry? “I actually fell into the industry by chance when I took on the position at Menzies Hotels as the Groups Marketing Manager.”

What are your professional goals and dreams? “I thoroughly enjoy representing Hallmark Hotels and hope one day to take further steps within the company! Also I have had the opportunity to work with several Industry Associations including the HBAA (Hotel Booking Agents Association) and I have aspirations of being more involved with the wider industry.”
What do you love most about your job? “I love having the opportunity to be out with our corporate and agency partners and communicating all the exciting developments taking place across the Group, especially at the moment with the development of the new Hallmark Hotels brand which now incorporates what was Menzies Hotel and will include the Feathers Hotel group in the New Year giving us 28 hotels across the UK.”
View Group What has been the biggest lesson of your career so far? “I feel I’m always learning as this industry is constantly changing and evolving which makes it so interesting to be involved especially with our company at the moment as we have recently rebranded the Menzies Hotels group into Hallmark Hotels which was very exciting!... However one big lesson to me has been the value of strong, long term relationships. Fully understanding your clients objectives and requirements are so important to being able to deliver exceptional events!!”

What has been your most embarrassing moment in your career? “A recent embarrassing moment came at a HBAA Executive Committee Meeting. Having a pre-dinner drink at the lovely Mercure Box Hill Burford Bridge Hotel with number of industry colleagues I was sat on a sofa holding a glass of fizz... What is your favourite holiday having seen one of ladies arrive and destination and why? having nowhere to sit I promptly moved “My favourite holiday destination has up to allow her to sit down on the sofa to be Italy and try to visit annually where myself and several others were particularly Perugia as I frequently go seated...unbeknown to me at the time to the Umbria Jazz festival which takes I was sitting on a chaise lounge and so place twice per year (winter and summer) when I moved up disappeared off the over two weeks in the summer and is end onto the floor...luckily not spilling any an excellent blend of great music, food, of the glass of fizz...very embarrassing wine and culture.” but also quite funny!”
What are your main responsibilities at Hallmark Hotels? “My main responsibility is to support our key partners who have requirements across our 28 hotels, and finding solutions to their accommodation and event requirements.”
What is your favourite meal? “I’m a big fan of Indian food so would have to be a curry!” What was the first CD you bought? “Michael Jackson, ‘Bad’ was the first album I purchased.”
What achievements are you most proud of? “One of my proudest moments was winning industry Account Manager of the year in 2014 as voted for by my clients. I’m passionate about the hotel industry and thoroughly enjoy working with all my clients and so to be recognised in this way was very touching. Also becoming Venue Chair of the HBAA in 2013 which What are you passionate about? I really enjoyed the opportunity.” “I get quite passionate about most things to be honest. I really enjoy competing at sports, travelling and seeing new things, a bit of DIY and supporting all my clients I work with and developing long term relationships.”
