The story goes that it’s haunted by the ghost of a local maid named Charlotte, who is often seen in the grounds of the hotel. She was a servant who fell in love with the groundskeeper, who either killed herself after she lost their baby. Charlotte apparently caused such disturbance in the 1980s that the manager called a clairvoyant, who discovered that Charlotte was one of many ghosts resident at the hotel.

One of the many sightings that have occurred here is of a female who is said to wonder freely throughout the hotel. It is believed to be the wife of Mr Brooks, whose daughter (Mary Ann) died of cancer early on in her life. You can expect to see the woman sitting at the foot of your bed or peering out of the windows right the way through the hotel. Her footsteps are also heard walking freely around the rooms and corridors and you may experience some strange happenings with the lights.

At one of these fairs, a 17 year old girl called Elvira, was taken from the Inn and murdered. It is her ghost, and the ghost of her killer (who committed suicide), that haunt the Inn.

The Feathers is probably the oldest inn in Pocklington and dates from at least Elizabethan times. In the early nineteenth century it was extensively rebuild for to attract the coaching Inn trade. What is the most rewarding thing about working in this industry?
Many a happy customer! Whether it be a fantastic holiday, their dream wedding day, or simply the best coffee and free superfast wifi for their business meeting; it’s so lovely to hear guest feedback when we’ve exceeded their expectations. What attracted you to the Leisure industry?
With a background in the design industry, I was attracted to the thriving leisure industry in Cornwall when I first moved here in 2010. It was a stark contrast to where I grew up in the midlands and it looked such an exciting industry to work in with the opportunity to meet so many different people. It has certainly lived up to that expectation so far. Which magazine (if any) do you read?
The Caterer and Hotel Keeper and WED magazine…even though I’m married it is such a beautiful magazine! What did you want to be when you were a child?
A singer or a fashion designer! What are you passionate about?
Beautiful design and making people happy. If you could be any character in a movie, who would you be?
Probably Sandy in Grease, I loved singing along to all the songs when I was younger (maybe I still do!?). What’s your favourite song of all time?
