April Moralba I grew up in a relatively big family and I was always surrounded by my extended family. All the major holidays were spent in a relative’s house with all my cousins, aunties, uncles, lolas and lolos. Now that most of us have grown up, grown our own families and moved away from Philly, it’s really hard to get everyone together. I like to go back home in the fall in winter where it feels good, easy and comforting.

Mat Dubord From the famous Beatles song. I don’t know much about the meaning of this song (have you read the lyrics?) but I think this phrase appropriately embodies the meaning of “gather”. My favorite part of this piece is the small “over me” at the bottom. L E A R N M O R E A B O U T M A T:

Courtney Macca The Columbia River Gorge is a gorgeous stretch of scenic hikes, waterfalls and vista points between Oregon and Washington. I grew up less than 20 minutes away, and it was often a place to hangout and appreciate nature with friends. Definitely a gathering place for many Oregonians. Seriously, look it up. Unfortunately, wildfires ran wild through it earlier this month due to irresponsible teenagers and an extreme heatwave, which caused a lot of uncertainty among my old neighbors about the fate of many of these beloved hiking trails and views. It has brought a lot of people together--through both former good and these current rough times--and is a large part of our identity. No matter what its state, it’ll continue to be a place I visit again and again with my friends throughout my life! L E A R N M O R E A B O U T C O U R T N E Y:

Marisol Ortega For this month’s theme, “gather”, I wanted to make a nod to nature. I’m also really homesick at the moment and foraging edible mushrooms in the forests of Oregon made me think of childhood friends and misty autumn trips to Silverton Falls. Here’s to forever staying grounded and connected to Mother Earth. LEARN MORE ABOUT MARISOL:

Kate LaLime My husband and I just bought our first house and it was really important to us to have a space that was perfect for hosting friends and family. It may sound sappy and it definitely gives me all the feels when I think about it, but when you create a space for loved ones to gather, creating memories with those people in that space is what really makes a house feel like home. Ayla Mirolo “Autumn.. the year’s last, loveliest smile” - William Cullen Bryant. Gather makes me think of the chill creeping into the weather, scarves and jumpers, apple-anything, how beautiful but sort of sad it is to see the leaves twirling down from the trees on one last extravagant dance before winter throws a white blanket over everything. I felt like lettering on a leaf was a nice embrace of the season before the cold weather really sneaks in (that and it was a good excuse to put down the technology and get outside). Catherine Eager This time of year, when the leaves start to change colors, the sweaters are pulled out of storage, and the the Starbucks line triples in size due to the arrival of PSLs is one of my favorites! It always reminds me of bundling up with friends and family around camp fires and drinking coffee, hot chocolate, and s’mores made over said camp fire. Autumn is for cuddles. Kat Schober For some reason, when I saw the word ‘Gather’, I couldn’t get the song Come Together by The Beatles out of my head. I was specifically seeing the Joe Cocker version from Across the Universe playing over and over. It’s a fun song with a bit of grime to it, but it certainly doesn’t make me want to “come together” with its narrator. I do, however, have so many memories of being with friends in high school and listening to nothing but The Beatles, who had a strange resurgence in popularity in the late 2000’s. We would listen to the White Album and watch Across The Universe and trade Beatles facts we’d learned from our parents (or more likely, the internet). The Beatles brought people together in the 60’s, well into the 70’s, and their songs still bring people together today. Wow, I didn’t mean for this to turn into a report on “Why The Beatles Are Good”. Oh well. L E A R N M O R E A B O U T K A T:
