I love music, and the sheer amount of songs I know and cherish made it hard to choose just one lyric to letter. I went with Frightened Rabbit’s (RIP Scott Hutchinson) “Woke Up Hurting”, which I often quote in real life situations. The verses make it pretty clear that the song is about alcohol abuse, but the refrain — melodic, plaintive, simple in its wording — is a go-to descriptor of a morning that starts badly, especially if it’s an emotional, indescribable sort of bad. (Do mornings like that ever happen to me? Yes.) LEARN MORE ABOUT MARIA:

Ayla Mirolo This was a really hard prompt and I spent most of the time trying to decide on what to pick, but in the end I had to go with this one, because Pup, but also because I’m a living example of Murphy’s Law so this sums it up pretty perfectly. L E A R N M O R E A B O U T AY L A :

Kaitlin Callender I’ve always had a soft spot for 1960s R&B/soul music, so when I saw the color palette for this prompt - I knew I had to do something groovy. This Magic Moment by Ben E. King is a classic and easily one of my favorite songs. LEARN MORE ABOUT KAITLIN:

Kate LaLime This song gave me all the feels when I first heard it. Phoebe Bridgers is just an incredible song writer and I’m sure, like me, many people can related to the concept of emotional motion sickness. L E A R N M O R E A B O U T K AT E :

We all have “those bands”. You know, the ones you just love with all your heart. That you obsess over. Know all the words to every single song. The ones you have to stand right near the front of the stage at the middle-of-the-week-indowntown-Boston-shows. Frightened Rabbit is that band, for me. This song has always meant a lot to me, but since Scott’s passing, it’s kind of become our Frabbit rallying cry. The silver lining in the shitstorm. L E A R N M O R E A B O U T B R I T TA N Y:

Maria Chiara I have to confess that over the past few months I’ve been obsessed with Elvis Presley. Everything started when, watching a video from the famous Wembley concert by Queen ( my favorite rock band!), the group performed a medley with songs originally sung by Elvis Presley, one of Freddy Mercury’s idols. Of course I was familiar with Elvis and knew some of his songs, but when I started researching and listening to more and more of his songs and watching his live performances, I was blown away by the treasure I discovered! I completely fell in love with the way he sung and moved on stage! He had such a charisma and energy and I was amazed by his ability to perform anything, from crazy dynamic rock songs, to gospel, to moving ballads. “Walk a mile in my shoes” is a beautiful song that he often performed live and I love the message behind the lyrics, all about understanding other people and putting ourselves in their shoes in order to avoid any sort of judgment. Moreover I really think this song shows how Elvis was able to inject energy in everything he sung! LEARN MORE ABOUT MARIA:

LAUREN FLORENCE I know I am picking the most stereotypical indie song but these lyrics (and this album) have always had a special place in my heart. Because it is really strange to be anything at all. The world is weird. Humans are weird. And that’s pretty cool. LEARN MORE ABOUT LAUREN:
