AYLA MIROLO This piece is recycled from an old window that I rescued from the side of the road a while ago. The twine is reused from old gifts, and I scuffed up the windows with an old steel wool scrubby thing from the kitchen, and painted them with chalkboard paint, so it can double as a writing board for the kitchen. I ended up gifting this as a birthday present, and went with the homey quote of “Together is a wonderful place to be. L E A R N M O R E A B O U T AY L A :

WE’RE INTO IT “It’s only one straw”, said 8 billion people. And now an estimated 8.3 billion straws have made their way to our oceans. Reducing waste is more important than recycling, we’re refusing the extra plastic in our lives, are you? L E A R N M O R E A B O U T M O L LY:

BILL CUMMINGS Want not. It had gone soft and brown, but I ate all of this immediately after... on toast with everything-but-the-bagel seasoning. Nothing going to waste here! LEARN MORE ABOUT BILL:

I was stumped for found materials, until I came home after a long day of work and realized I had tons of black stuff lying around. The piece thus features: a barette, 3 chokers, a pair of headphones, a quill. a nail filer, a bunch of markers, a stapler, a flashlight doubling as a powerbank, and an unused gift card for super cheap coffee. The colorful letters are leftovers from previous projects; I have around 50 of those and I make new art by arranging and rearranging them (like a modernized printing press!) Fun fact: the blocky letters were cut from old art painted over with black acrylic paint. LEARN MORE ABOUT MARIA:

A *constant* reminder to myself. Because as far as I think I’ve come, with being more conscioucious about my lifestyle and habits, there is so much more work to be done. In our house, we’ve been making a lot of incremental changes over the past few years, from our diet to the products we buy, and we still have such a long way to go. Kelvin lee Let’s strive to reduce waste by contributing to lighten up the ever growing trash pile that will eventually take over our one and only planet we call home. I’m a big advocate in reusing things and finding value in it when it’s original purpose has been fulfilled. Too many times have we just thrown away boxes or containers that could be used to store personal belongings or it could be repurposed in other ways with a bit of creativity and ingenuity. If all else fails please find a way to recycle it. At the rate we are heading, total elimination of trash is impossible but we can try to reduce it and slow it down until a practical solution has been found. Let’s take care of our home and be responsible for providing a better environment for future generations. L E A R N M O R E A B O U T K E LV I N :

kate lalime I’m very passionate about the environment and while I’m far from perfect, I’ve really been trying to do things like bring my reusable water bottle and mug with me everywhere, use my glass and metal straws, use regular silverware instead of plastic in the cafeteria at work, and bring my own bags when I shop. recycling is great, but refusing and reducing are even better! Kevin Rooi This all started on a regular 3-hour trip train ride from Groningen to Amsterdam, I forgot my sketchbook and need to letter on something while listing to hip hop. I had an empty cup of Starbucks in one hand, a brush pen in the other and good music flowing through my iPod. Started as using my cup as a sketchbook to becoming a challenging project, to lettering on a round object cup on a moving train while listening to my favorite tunes influencing my work. Plus it’s a benifit to the community by making a throwaway product into an art piece which can be used to decorate your home or to use as a penholder. LEARN MORE ABOUT KEVIN:
