Kaitlin Callender This submission came from a recent book that I have been reading as well as a YouTube channel that I’ve been watching called “Ask a Mortician”. I love to throw on my headphones, grab my iPad, and sketch away. I’ve been using it as an opportunity to try and learn the ins and outs of Procreate. LEARN MORE ABOUT KAITLIN:

Ayla mirolo My process when drawing involves a lot of self-doubt and feeling like everything I create is junk. With this piece, I drew it without fixing it - against all of my urges, I didn’t fix the layout, spacing, colour choices.. my first attempt is what stayed. And it’s the worlds biggest struggle to try to accept it. It’s far from perfect, but learning to accept that not everything is initially perfect needs to become part of my process. Janna Barrett No matter what the “process” is, you always learn more from actually being in it rather than skipping over it. That is how you grow, and that is where you discover more about yourself. It’s challenging, and that’s why it’s good. LEARN MORE ABOUT JANNA:

Lauren Florence My creative process has always been rushed. If I could give anyone advice (especially myself) it would be to slow down and take your time to make something amazing. I tend to rush through the concept, sketching and vectorizing process and I think it shows in my work. My goal is to be more mindful and give my art some time to become something I’m proud of. This is the first piece I created on my new tablet and it was nerve-racking and not my best work but you should always be proud of what you make. LEARN MORE ABOUT LAUREN:

I’ve realized over the years how important it is to be playful and experimental when making art. One of the things that helps me inject a sense of looseness into my work is the use of traditional media during early project stages. In the finished piece, the slight clunkiness of the letter shapes is due to their handmade origins — even if nobody else can tell. LEARN MORE ABOUT MARIA:

Pam Galante A big part of my process that tends to cause the most indecisiveness is color. I usually have a few color schemes in my mind, and it is always hard to choose which ones I end up liking the best. Sometimes I find myself getting so caught up in the color that other important areas of the piece start to lose my attention. If you’re like me and find it hard to pick color schemes, hopefully the below tips can be of help! 1. Start with no color: Starting a piece using only shades of gray helps me figure out where I want dark/light values, and later on I can pick the colors. 2. Look at your recent projects: I recently realized that a lot of my work tends towards blues/purples/greens, so I have started to look at color schemes I have recently used, and try to make new pieces that are different from previously used colors to ensure my work has variation. 3. More is better: I have accepted that sometimes you just can’t choose between color schemes, and that it is OK to have multiple versions of the same piece where the only change is the color scheme!
