To learn to control the lower aspect of our nature that when left unsubdued becomes the captain of the vices and superfluities ship. his practice separates us from the rest of the animal kingdom.

Our vices and superfluities are the effects of unsubdued passionswhich prevent the proper construction of a fortified temple (character).

Subduing Our Discortant Passions

This prerequisite is required in order to let our inner light shine outward and to foster an environment which allows us to build and strengthen our temples (characters) with the stones of virtue.

I have found that Brothers have misunderstandings or walk away from Freemasonry during an emotional event which they suffer beyond their control. Or they never learn or understand the esotericism of their being because they dont realize that the NAME of God is a verb. Subdue means to work to control emotions not to eliminate them. Master of emotions is the first step to dominon over self and the begining of opening up the universe within Self. It is the gate keeper to the mystic realms (worlds). This is why the JD is in charge of allowing entrance to the lodge. JD represents emotions keeping out all that is inconsistent with the Builder’s Design. You cant manipulate realms if you can’t effectively use your emotional body harmoniously with the rest of SELF.

Les we forget that ALL Passions & Desires, for that matter, are not BAD and should not be subdued:

Examples:

Ex. 1 “I have a passion to learn.” - Ego driven for self. Innate desire to receive. (subdue ego driven passion for SELF)

Ex 2. “I have a passion to learn so that others may benefit.” - Ego’s passion for self is subdued and passion for your willingness to bestow prevails.

All of the people who worship the beast of their passions, and his image (intellectualism without spirituality) will be tormented with fire into the abyss, with the fire and brimstone of their own desires.

The mind is the den of desire. When the mind assaults us with useless representations, when the mind ambushes us with its lowly passions.
