PROJEKT COUNTRY HIGHPOINTS
‘My dream to have once stood on every highest point of every country on earth.’
‘My dream to have once stood on every highest point of every country on earth.’
... and 197 highest points to climb. Among them are technically challenging mountains, national high points whose exact location is uncertain, peaks in politically unstable countries, or mountains in military-restricted areas. A challenge that no one has ever completed. With 128 national high points reached, I am in the pole position to become the first person to summit the highest point of all 197 countries. My journey takes me through rugged high mountains, steep rock faces, dense jungle regions, vast deserts, endless steppes, and icy heights—all with one goal: to stand at the highest point of every country in the world. I have been pursuing this project for around 20 years. I started it even though I knew at the time that I would not even be allowed to enter some countries, that some regions were completely inaccessible, that certain high points were mined, or that the exact location of the highest mountain in some countries was unknown. Despite these extreme challenges, I hold onto my dream and move forward, country by country, mountain by mountain—because dreams come true when you start living them, and paths are made by walking them.
Where I‘ve been (128/197)
From an early age, I was fascinated by mountains, and head out for several mountain adventures. With iron determination, I acquired the necessary mountaineering skills, strategic planning abilities, and the required courage to get closer to my goal, step by step. I trained in ski mountaineering, alpine climbing, ice climbing, and dry tooling to be prepared for the challenges of these ascents.
At the same time, my professional career gradually aligned with my passion for mountaineering. My studies in International Economics, as well as Environmental Engineering and Environmental Management, provided me with the necessary tools. During my doctorate, I was able to integrate this knowledge and completed my PhD on sustainable energy technology under socio-ecological aspects in Africa.
In addition, my work as a mountain hiking guide, nature guide, environmental educator, mountain accident statistician, and my voluntary commitment as a mountain rescuer and tour leader for the Austrian Alpine Club have provided me with the essential skills to tackle this project.
