HINTS FOR TODAY’S BRIDES

Hair hints for today’s brides

IDOASKED OUR FASHION SHOOT HAIRSTYLIST, CHRIS MIFSUD, OF MAF HAIRDRESSERS, WHAT ADVICE HE HAS FOR THE BRIDES OF 2021

Firstly, what conditions and requirements are there for brides who are going ahead with their weddings this year concerning things like appointments, whether a hairdresser can be at the wedding venue?

Conditions and requirements are as the same as when one would attend a normal hair appointment. Masks should be worn at all times etc etc.

We advise you to pre book your hair appointments, as you mostly do. Hair salons are bound by strict measures and protocols, issued by the health authorities.A hair trial, always by appointment, should be done a couple of weeks before the actual wedding day, and the last colour/ trim service to the bride,an/or team, should be done three days prior to the wedding day.

As for the wedding day,in a midst of a pandemic most brides are asking us to do home visits in order to be in a ‘safer environment‘.

What styling arrangements do you advise bridesmaids and other members of the wedding party to make before or on the wedding day?

As mentioned before colours and trims should be done three days before the wedding. Having said this, if one of the team, or the bride wanted a complete change like a colour change or using hair extensions, this has to be done slowly and peak closer to the wedding day.

Many brides might want to pay even more attention to their hair and headpieces to distract from their mask. What does a bride need to consider when choosing a flattering style to wear with a mask?

Well, actually masks are a new thing for 2020 / 2021 and most brides are still keeping their desired looks using a variety of hair ornaments, ranging from fresh flowers to tiaras and combs. What we’re seeing is that brides are complimenting their dresses with a mask made from the same material,or highlighting a detail of the bride’s dress. As for the bridesmaids, most of theirchosen dresses are satin so opting for a satin mask would also be a nice idea.

For foreigners and Maltese alike,if the bride is a bit outrageous,we are seeing also blue masks as this also counts for ‘something old, something new, something borrowed something blue’.

What are the biggest hair trends for 2021 that you can see catching on in Malta throughout the year? 2020, was a roller-coaster so it should come as no surprise that 2021’s biggest hair and makeup trends tend toward the extraordinary. We’ve noticed that because of Covid, when it comes to wedding hair people are ready to glam it up. Everyone is so over not being social and staying inside that they want to have the biggest celebration while feeling the most glamorous on their special day.

On the otherhand some soon-to-be-wed women are more accustomed to the au natural effect that lockdown has spurred. Brides are leaning towards more natural, lived-in looks.

Spending the better part of 2020 /2021 embracing your natural hair texture we recommend opting for an updo or down and tousled, lived-in, textured styles. It can feel a bit over the top right now to have every hair in place.

Go for a more lived-in style which mimics the freedom we’ve been giving our locks and might make you,the bride, feel more like yourself.
