President’s Message

THREE RIVERS REGION PRESIDENT MELISSA SPROUSE BROWNE

Our theme for this issue of The Current, our brand new newsletter, is WE DID IT! The day finally came and our dreams of becoming our own region have been realized. The PCA National Executive Committee granted our charter request and from February 2015 forward, we have been independent of our old affiliation with the Carolinas Region. I personally would like to thank everyone who had a part in our new region formation. There are so many names to mention, but in particular I want to recognize our new Zone Three Representative, Vic Rola. An ardent supporter of our new region, Vic guided us through the process and championed our cause. Without his support at key points, we may not have been given the charter. Since becoming the Three Rivers Region, we’ve been hard at work establishing our leadership and planning for the rest of the year. We’ve held our first Board meeting and have had several meetings for the general membership. One of the decisions made was to have a set meeting every month. Then, if we do something else in any given month, then there would be an event plus a meeting or possibly an event in lieu of a meeting. So, to that end, our regular monthly meetings will be held the third Tuesday of every month at Grecian Gardens in West Columbia at 6:30pm. Anything other than that will be announced as usual. We have a full schedule of other events planned as well, so look for the calendar in this issue for details. You can also access the calendar anytime at our new website, www.threeriversregionpca.org. Even though we have chosen to be our own region, as members of PCA we may attend club events held by other regions. If you want to attend a Carolinas Region event, we encourage you to do so. And speaking of the Carolinas Region, if you are still a member of that group and wish to change your membership, just let National PCA know and they’ll move you over to us. If you speak to anyone that doesn’t know about the new region, please fill them in on the details. The next event coming up is the Potluck Dinner at Dick and Helen Lane’s home on Lake Murray in Chapin. It’s Tuesday, May 19th and they’re providing the meat, we just need to bring the sides. Send a quick email to Helen at hellane@bellsouth.net so she’ll know what you’re bringing. I’m bringing potato salad, made the way my mother used to make it, traditional Southern with eggs and onions. While we were a little slow getting out the first newsletter, we will be on schedule for the future! If you’d like to contribute, please send us your ideas and pictures. melissasprouse@aol.com. Thanks and see you soon!
