PRODUCTION & QUALITY ASSURANCE For all the energy and passion invested into the development of a product, the same level of care and due diligence must be achieved during the production process. A number of unique, state-of-the-art processes combine to yield the unrivaled quality that only SHOEI helmets are known for, and each helmet must pass several rigorous inspections throughout the production process before being awarded with the famous SHOEI hexagon.

_SHOEI’s SHELL MOLDING technology features AIM (Advanced Integrated Matrix) and AIM+ shell construction—processes that integrate a matrix of hand-laid interwoven layers of fiberglass with organic fibers and resin. Together, these materials combine to maximize strength and elasticity in a strong yet lightweight shell, and each are personally marked by the technician responsible for it, further endorsing the quality of every helmet.

shape. All protrusions created in manufacturing are cut off, and the openings for the shield and ventilation systems are cut into the helmet shell with robotically controlled lasers. Once this process is complete, all helmets are checked to ensure that they have the correct material thickness and weight.

_SHOEI’s PAINTING and graphic application processes are second to none. Though some of our production steps have been automated today, it is absolutely critical that many processes are still completed by hand. Combining meticuous handwork and automation in production ensures optimal quality, and each SHOEI helmet still boasts a hand-painted finish with hand-applied decals before being sealed with additional layers of clearcoat. SHOEI applies up to five layers of paint to each helmet. _FINAL ASSEMBLY of each helmet is done with care and precision, including the installation of ventilation sliders, shield seals, impact absorbing EPS liners, and comfort liners. Each helmet passes a detailed final inspection before being passed on to the consumer. This strict compliance with the production processes and associated quality control standards guarantee the consistently high quality of a SHOEI helmet.

AERODYNAMICS & VENTILATION Motorcyclists live in a stream of moving air, which is precisely why every SHOEI model undergoes extensive aerodynamics testing in our very own wind tunnel. In addition to the shell, the aerodynamic efficiency of spoilers and vents are also analyzed in SHOEI’s wind tunnel for optimal performance. As a result, every SHOEI helmet boasts an aerodynamic design that increases air flow and reduces noise, buffeting, and lift, ultimately increasing performance and overall rider comfort.

FIT & COMFORT One size does not fit all, which is why SHOEI offers an industry-leading number of shell sizes, as well as various liner sizes and cheek pad thicknesses to ensure a customizable fit for each and every rider. Along with extensive research on head shape and sizes, SHOEI incorporates a mix of exclusive comfort and performance features into the construction of every helmet. Groundbreaking components like our 3D Max-Dry Interior System (which utilizes a revolutionary material capable of absorbing and dissipating sweat two-times faster than nylon), 3D-shaped liner components to match the contours of a rider’s head, fully removable, washable and replaceable liner components, eyeglass channels, integrated neck pads, and removable breath guards and chin curtains accentuate the impeccable comfort package exclusive only to SHOEI helmets.

SAFETY, DESIGN & PASSION

An integral part of the development process, SHOEI’s ventilation systems direct cooling, drying air into the helmet, and utilize areas of negative air pressure to the rear of the helmet to draw warm, damp air through the outlets and into the outside environment. Perfect shape and placement of vent inlets and outlets, along with air channels buried within SHOEI’s DualLayer EPS Liners, are the basis for optimum ventilation, and is a significant part of what separates SHOEI from our competition.

(Quick Release Self-Adjusting) Base Plate System

SHOEI’s QRBP (Quick Release Base Plate) system is one of the most advanced shield attachment mechanisms in the world. The simple shield release and attachment procedure makes it easy to change your shield as conditions dictate. Also widely appreciated is the convenience of our shield preset lever, as it allows a rider to lock down his or her shield in racing conditions, or crack the shield open just slightly to allow for additional airflow while on the go. For the new X-Twelve and RF-1100 models, SHOEI engineers were tasked with the tough job of improving this popular system, and they did so with flying colors! The X-Twelve and RF-1100 come equipped with SHOEI’s all-new QRSA (Quick Release Self-Adjusting) base plate system. Building on the successful QRBP, the QRSA maintains its predecessor’s easy-to-use features, but offers a significant advantage. SHOEI’s patented new spring-loaded technology featured in the QRSA eliminates the need to adjust base plates for proper sealing. Every time the shield is lowered, the spring-loaded base plates pull the shield back to contact the window beading evenly, ensuring a wind and waterproof seal.

Brand-new for 2010, SHOEI’s Q.R.S.A. Base Plate System and CW-1 Shield offer SHOEI riders unprecidented vision.

CW-1 SHIELD The X-Twelve and RF-1100’s all-new CW-1 shield is both wider and taller than the CX-IV that it replaces. In addition, the CW-1 shield protects SHOEI riders from 99% of the sun’s damaging UVA and UVB rays, and our three-dimensional injection-molding process ensures distortion free vision. Another advantage of the CW-1 shield is its ability to work in conjunction with SHOEI’s optional Pinlock system to deliver fog-free vision in even the most challenging conditions. The new CW-1 Pinlock lens is larger, and offers fog-free viewing to the very top of the helmet’s larger eye port. CW-1 Shield

NEW FEATURES FOR 2010

CWF-1 Shield

Designed with ease of use in mind, SHOEI’s new CWF-1 “racing” shields provide a flat surface to accommodate racing tearoffs. Previously, the QRBP system required a careful adjustment to accommodate these flat shields while still ensuring a tight seal between the shield and the helmet’s window beading. With our new QRSA base plate system, however, the shield now automatically adjusts itself to make a perfect seal with the beading, making it much easier for riders to change between flat CWF-1 racing shields and the more optically correct, three-dimensionally curved CW-1 shields. Additionally, newly designed tearoff buttons allow for tearoff tension to be adjusted without tools, making it much easier and quicker to install racing tearoffs.

QUICK-RELEASE SELF-ADJUSTING BASE PLATE SYSTEM Need to change shields from clear to tint? SHOEI’s QuickRelease Self-Adjusting (Q.R.S.A.) base plate system features a locking mechanism that allows a rider to swap shields in a snap—no tools, no hassle, no problem. And thanks to the patented new spring-loaded, self-adjusting system, gone are the days of manual shield adjustments!

REAR AIR EXHAUST VENTS Tireless research in the wind tunnel has revealed that the optimal location for exhaust vents is actually higher on the rear portion of the helmet’s shell than originally thought. The end result are exhaust vents that take better advantage of negative pressure suction, dramatically improving exhaust ventilation.

CW-1 SHIELD Offering a taller and wider field of vision than its predecessor, the all-new, three-dimensionally curved CW-1 shield offers distortion free vision, and protects riders from 99% of the sun’s damaging UVA and UVB rays. In addition, the new CW-1 works in conjunction with SHOEI’s optional Pinlock system, delivering fog-free vision in even the most challenging conditions.

NECK OUTLET VENT Located at the bottom rear of the helmet, neck outlet vents work in conjunction with the upper and lower air intakes to exhaust hot air and eliminate humidity.

HELMET FIT/SIZING GUIDELINES ROAD

THE PERFECT FIT No helmet can protect the wearer against all foreseeable high and low-speed impacts. However, for maximum head protection, the helmet must be of proper fit, and the retention system must be securely fastened under the chin. Failure to have a proper fitting helmet and securely fastened chinstrap is dangerous, as the helmet could come off in an accident, resulting in severe head injury or death.

DETERMINE THE PROPER FIT 1. Measure your head size by wrapping a cloth tape measure horizontally around your head at a height of roughly one inch (2.5 cm) above your eyebrows. This will give you a measurement of the largest portion of your head. 2. Select the helmet that is closest to your head size. Oftentimes your head measurement may fall between two helmet sizes. When this occurs, try the smaller of the two sizes first. A

TRY ON THE HELMET Expand the helmet opening with your hands, and then slide your head into it. Pull the chinstraps only (as shown in DIAGRAM A), not the chinstrap covers. Pulling on the covers may rip them. If the helmet is not snug around the dome of your head, it is likely too big for you. If this is your first helmet, the snug feel of proper fitment may be a bit obtrusive initially, but snug is precisely how it should fit.

CHECK FOR PROPER FIT With the helmet on, go through the following checklist: 1. Does the inner lining fit snugly around your entire head? 2. Does the top pad press closely around the dome of your head? 3. Are the cheek pads in contact with your cheeks? 4. Does the brow lining fit snugly against your brow (you should not be able to insert fingers between the lining and your brow)? 5. Take hold of the helmet with a hand on each side. Without moving your head, try to move the helmet up and down and side to side (as shown in DIAGRAM B). You should feel the skin of your head and face being pulled as you try to move the helmet. If you can move the helmet around easily, it is too big and you should try a smaller size.

CHECK THE RETENTION SYSTEM

1. Fasten the chinstrap so that it is tight against your chin (NO slack in the strap should be allowed). 2. With the chinstrap secured, put your hands flat on the back of the helmet and try to push the helmet off by rotating it forward. 3. Next, put your hands on the front of the helmet above your forehead (or on the chin guard) and try to push the helmet off by rotating it rearward (as shown in DIAGRAM C). If the helmet starts to come off in either direction, do not use this helmet, as either the helmet is too big for you, or the chinstrap is not tightened properly. 4. To securely fasten the D-ring retention system, thread the end of the chinstrap through the D-ring (as shown in DIAGRAM D), and pull it tight against your throat. After securely fastened, snap the chinstrap end snap onto the D-ring strap to secure the loose end.

HELMET FIT/SIZING GUIDELINES

Tightening the chinstrap correctly is extremely important. If your chinstrap is loose, the shock of an impact may knock your helmet off, leaving your head completely unprotected. DO NOT use a helmet that can be rolled of your head with the chinstrap fastened. Follow this procedure to check your helmetâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s retention system:
