On the road to recovery WOOMERA…A team of Roxby Downs fitness-lovers hit the road to raise money and awareness for victims of the December Asian tsunami disaster today, Thursday, January 20. Headed up by Rev. Tom Beever, the group left Roxby Downs on the stroke of midnight to walk to Woomera. They will stay overnight then return to Roxby Downs tomorrow. “It is going to be a punishing and hard trek, maybe we won’t make the whole walk, but we’ll do what we can and I believe we can make it,” he told The Monitor last week. “We’ll have a police escort most of the way and we invite community members to come out, walk with us for a while, or just show your support.” The walk will be coordinated alongside another local appeal aimed at local business, coordinated by WMC Resources and Olympic Dam Transport. Find out more about both appeals, and how you can be involved, on Page 3.

HITTING THE ROAD...Once again illustrating the generosity of the Roxby Downs and regional community, Val Lamb, Michelle Kittel, Tom Beever and, front, Michelle Duggan left Roxby Downs on the stroke of midnight today, Thursday, January 20, to walk to Woomera and back, raising money and awareness for the Asian Tsunami disaster.

Roxby residents all ready to give! A MOUNTAIN OF SUPPORT…Local West Coast Bushfire Appeal coordinator Denise Trewartha, with daughter Nikita, 9, and community donor Nicole Richter pile up a small selection of the items collected for the appeal in Roxby Downs alone over just two days. Read more about the appeal on Page 2, and the personal experiences of one former Roxby Downs family who survived the tragedy.
