T
he Roxby Districts Sporting Club are angered they do not have a clubroom to host after game presentations.
Last fortnight, Roxby Districts were forced to host their presentations on the football oval during the cold of night as their usual venue, The Golf Club, was pre-booked. Steve Ryan, President of the Roxby Districts Football Club, told The Monitor he was disappointed the club does
not have a permanent facility to host functions, presentations and club memorabilia. “Roxby Districts Sporting Club has teams that compete year round in most sports and community events but we feel we are not progressing in our bid to establish our own club facilities,” he said. “The Golf Club lets us hold presentations at their clubroom whenever possible, which is greatly appreciated but unfortunately this year we find ourselves without a place to hold our football, netball and softball teams’
presentations on many occasions. “We try to organise alternate venues but existing clubrooms are mostly unavailable, and we prefer family friendly venues meaning Taverns and Public Clubs are not ideal for the kids of our club on Saturday night.” Committee meetings and team selection meeting are normally held at members’ houses, which often intrudes on personal space and can cause distress in the household. There is also the issue of storage for club memorabilia, dating back to 1986, which means the club is un-
able to display its achievements and memories. Vice President Deb Steinhauser concurred with Steve’s comments, adding there is a need to deliver the club’s presentations to the entire sporting body to inform the entire club of its goings on. “We need to do our presentations in front of all our members to let them know what is going on,” she said. “We have a hardworking and dedicated committee and want to be able to provide suitable function rooms for our members.”

Roxby Districts Football Coach Mark Dalgleish was also of the strong opinion the club should receive their own rooms, putting the lack of facilities down to “bureaucratic nonsense”. “The club is an ‘institution’ in this town and it’s about time it received a piece of land to build a place where all the players and supporters can meet,” he said. “This brings with it a sense of community and simply puts the club on the map…it’s a no brainer.”
