I, too, feel that ultimately it is parents’ responsibility, not only to bring an awareness to their children and teach them to respect others’ possessions, but even more importantly to be a role model. Only if a mother models respect for another’s possessions will her children pick up on it by osmosis.

I live in a neighborhood with many young children and I was informed that anything I leave outside becomes public property. Is this the kind of things we want to teach our children? To feel free to use anyone’s bikes and toys without permission, possibly damage them, and then leave them stranded three houses down? It greatly bothers me that children (in my neighborhood) are encouraged to display disregard to the fact that possessions have owners, and the world is not up for the taking. As it draws ever closer, let us take a moment to reflect upon the true meaning of the upcoming Yom Hadin.

The Monsey View has invited a noted Monsey personality, the Nitra Rebbetzin, Reb. Y. Weissmandel, to compile a list of practical halachos especially geared for women.

May we all merit to be inscribed in the book of life, and may we merit a gut, gebentcht year.

Erev Yom Kippur •

It is a Mitzva to eat on Erev Yom Kippur.

•

One may not fast on Erev Yom Kippur.

•

There is a largely accepted minhag to eat two Yomtov’dige seudos Erev Yom Kippur.

•

Fish should be eaten at the first seudah.

•

At the Hamafsekes,

Seudas thirst-

inducing foods should not be eaten.

•

If one ate the Seuda Hamafsekes and then wishes to eat or drink more after the seuda, one should have that in mind before benching.

•

One should stop eating before shkiah.

•

the Seudos Hamafsekes.

Candles should be lit as on Shabbos and the brocha of “Lehadlik ner shel Yom Hakipurim” is recited. Women who make a Shehechiyanu should not repeat it by Maariv in shul.

If a doctor fears that fasting may be detrimental, chas vesholom, and the doctor gives a reason why it is dangerous for this particular woman to fast, she may eat or drink in small quantities. A doctor and a Rav must be consulted.

A woman whose newborn relies on her sustenance are mechuyav to fast, especially today when baby formula is available to be used as a substitute for a short period. It is advisable to accustom the baby to formula a few days beforehand to avoid complications arising on Yom Kippur.

In extremely unusual circumstances when a sensitive baby cannot tolerate anything else, it

may be possible to allow the mother to drink small quantities. Such serious matters should be determined only after consultation with a competent posek.

•

A person whose life may be endangered by fasting, even when the danger is only in the long term, is absolutely forbidden to fast, and putting one’s life in danger, by refusing to eat is a serious issur.

A competent doctor and Rav must be consulted in order to determine the seriousness of the condition.

•

Such a person may eat any type of food including those that he enjoys. There is also no restriction to the quantity of food that he may eat.

•

There is no requirement to make kiddush, even when Yom Kippur is on Shabbos.

•

Ya’aleh Veyavoh should

be recited and the paragraph Retzei should also be added if Yom Kippur is on Shabbos.

•

A person who is not ill, but by fasting may become dangerously ill, should eat small quantities.

This is common with elderly people or people who have serious health problems. A Rav should be consulted.

•

The maximum quantity of food that may be eaten at one session is 30ml (one fluid ounce).

This measurement is a volume and not a weight, and is the same for all types of food. A person who knows (or suspects) that he will need to eat, is advised to prepare in advance accurately measured quantities of food. It is recommended to eat substantially filling foods such as fish or meat, which are more satisfying than lighter foods of the same volume.

The liquid quantity is a cheek-full. For an average person, this is approximately 35ml (just over one fluid ounce) and for a smaller person this could be 30ml.

The food and drink should be plain, since in this situation, the amount of pleasure must be minimized.

One who must eat should eat only as often as is necessary. Further, he must wait nine minutes between the end of one session and the beginning of the next. If a doctor insists that this interval is too long, it may be reduced accordingly. It is permitted to eat and drink at the same session.

A person may swallow bitter medicines in tablet, or capsule form, but not if they are pleasant tasting or tasteless. If one cannot swallow the capsule or tablet without any liquid, he should use a bitter tasting liquid.

It is forbidden to taste the tiniest amount of food, even if he is certain that he will not swallow anything.

The laws of Yom Kippur are stricter than the laws of other fasts. It is forbidden to rinse the mouth whether with water or with mouthwash, even if one feels very uncomfortable.

•

It is forbidden to wash oneself.

This includes washing any part of one’s body.

•

After using the bathroom, touching a body part that is generally covered, scratching one’s scalp, or touching one’s shoe etc. one should wash only until the knuckles.

Whether these claims are coming from large sugar companies or their competitors is difficult to know. It’s very simple: You can have “diet cheesecake” with “diet ice cream” and “diet soda” easily in one sitting. Then you can eat “diet candies,” “diet cookies” and “diet yogurt” at the next. Diet drinks and ices are a big one too. So if your day today eating and drinking looks something like this, then it’s time to make some changes.

You don’t want your body full of synthetic chemicals.

2. As far as weight is

concerned there have been quite a few studies showing that these sweeteners taken in large quantities can cause you to gain weight in a slow and subtle way, or make it harder for you to drop fat.

I trained at New York University and at Columbia University’s Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv, Israel. I am affiliated with Mt. Sinai Medical Center, and have been a practicing Pediatrician for 18 years. In addition to my daytime office hours, I am seeing patients on Sundays, after school, and in the evenings in order to accommodate your busy schedules!

Sweeteners: How Sweet Are They Really?

your body into thinking that it’s going to receive sugar. Then, when the sugar doesn’t come, your body may continue to signal that it needs more food, which can result in carb cravings.

What about sugar alcohols?

These are generally safe, but there is no health advantage to consuming any type of sugar. Even natural sweeteners can lead to health problems, such as tooth decay, poor nutrition, weight gain, diabetes, and anxiety.

So, what’s the answer?

*Erythritol *Isomalt *Lactitol *Maltitol *Mannitol *Sorbitol *Xylitol These sugar alcohols aren’t completely non-caloric, but they do contain less than in regular sugar. Your body doesn’t completely absorb sugar alcohols, so their effect on blood sugar is less than with other sugars.

Different ones can affect blood sugar differently, therefore you need to be careful when consuming too many products made of these alcohols. Besides, ingesting too much can cause an upset stomach, bloating, and intestinal gas. Xylitol seems to be the easiest on the stomach. Again, moderation is the key.

Since sugar alcohols are a form of carbohydrates. it may be a concern for some diabetics and it can raise their sugars if eaten in excess. No known long-term diseases or health concerns are associated with the use of sugar alcohol .

What about Natural Sweeteners? *Honey *Brown Sugar *Maple Syrup *Agave *Organic Sugar

The Rambam states though, that it’s better to eat a little of a “not so healthy food” than to indulge in a lot of a “healthy food.” So if you like to taste something sweet here and there, and it’s just a very small amount, enjoy and savor the taste.

Pure Stevia or Monk Fruit Sugar appears to be top rated choices in sweeteners. The stevia plant has a long history of use as a sweetener in South America without any harmful side effects. Some new sweeteners under the name of Truvia are a highly purified extract of Stevia. It is 200 times sweeter than sugar and it does not raise blood sugar levels. The downfall is that it’s not so simple to use, especially in baked goods.

But with a little practice you can get to enjoy its use. Just remember that since it’s so sweet, a little goes a long way.

Monk fruit is derived from a fruit and has no effect on blood sugar levels and has no known side effects.

Recap: Chaya tries pleasing customers, forgetting that her daughter, who has been helping out in the store, needs attention and care, as well. While she fights off fatigue and exhaustion, Faiga comes running in. Something has happened to Chuna.

Duvid’s Story: We walked and walked, pebbles crunching beneath our shoes, or we ran, flying, in fright.

A halo of sweat formed a comforting cage around me, and I sank into it - and kept walking. My feet were burning. I turned around, again, to ask, “Where are we going?” But when I opened my mouth and saw his determined face, I thought about the words, and I stopped.

My face was in my hands. I felt held, exhausted, thirsty, spent. “Whatever it is, Hashem, just— spare me. I can’t go face it.”

“Sometimes, the biggest loss happens,” he said.

Someone was dead.

Who died? My eyes narrowed to slits until all I saw of the road I was walking was one step ahead of me.

My children? Was it the Arabs? You never believe it will happen until it comes to you.

“Who was killed?!” I grabbed him around the arms and forced him toward me.

“How many?”

He turned his eyes to me slowly. His face, so expressionless with fatigue, was alive only on the surface, glistening with exertion. “No one died,” he said.

My heart was released from a terrible pressure. I felt it regaining breath. “What is it then?” I demanded.

His face regained some movement while he contemplated. “No one died yet,” he said, “but…”

“What happened?”

I released his arms; realized how much adrenaline was coursing through me. I felt it

drain away. I couldn’t make the trek to wherever we were going anymore.

I sat down on a low stone.

The sun was so, so hot; the hearth shimmered upward with a terrible radiation of heat. My face was in my hands. I felt held, exhausted, thirsty, spent. “Whatever it is, Hashem, just— spare me. I can’t go face it. You go face it for me. It’s Your world, Your arena. I can’t.”

Aharon Foigel pulled my sleeve. “Please come,” he said.

“Where?” I looked up, into the blinding fire of the midafternoon sun, into his face. “I have to know where.”

“The hospital,” Fogel said.

“Your son, Chuna. He fell.

From the roof. His head. He hit his head.”

“From the roof?” I was standing now. We were headed down a slope.

“Yes, he was running across the railings on top of Stauber’s porch.”

“Stauber? The third floor? Is he alive? What happened?”

“He’s critical. On the threshold of life.”

“Shaarei Zedek,” I guessed, because we were moving in the direction of I got closer, peering at that far-off hospital. Aharon his young, darkening nodded.

There was no breath left in me to say anything more. But I could see his face. Impulsive, rambunctious, teetering on a railing three floors above the stone courtyard.

I saw a white poster with black thick words. The levayah of hayeled, Chuna ben Duvid… I had no eyes for my way in the present, I saw only into the future.

I was blurred by tears. A horn berated me as a car careened behind me down the winding road. I kept running. What would I find?

“Why did You do it?” I asked Hashem.

“Why did you do it?” I wanted to shake Chuna.

How many times did I tell him to play safely?

“Why did you do it?” I had to ask myself, because when was the last time I took his hand in mine, looked into his eyes, patted his cheek, told him how much he means to me?

The tears started streaming and I ran, I ran. And there was the hospital. When I ran into the hospital lobby, I saw familiar faces. On one side, doctors, nurses. In the opposite corner, a knot of flat, dusty hats, the sort of people who made me comfortable. I paid them no heed. I needed to see my son, now.

Velvel Parnes stepped forward. “Your son is in room 364,” he said, blocking my way. “But they want to ask you some questions. They want to take the children away. Tell them you won’t answer until your son is out of danger. Tell them nothing. Tell them they can talk to us if they want.”

The ice water of fear slowed me in my tracks. I took the stairs, thundering on each one at a time. So it wasn’t only about my son.

Fear gripped me and made me weak. I opened the door at the third floor. Found the room. A large bed, a small boy, his face fading into large, white bandages. Everything was white. Except for Chaya.

Chaya was dressed in black, her ticheled head buried within herself.

“Chaya.”

She looked up; she said nothing.

A thousand questions came to mind. I waited. Still, she said nothing. She looked broken, like a fragile thing.

A glimpse of us standing under the chuppah came to my mind. She was young then. We both were. She was fragile then, too. Did we ever think this would happen?

I looked at Chuna. His fingers were okay. Besides some heavy tubes attached to his arm, he looked human.

Is he going to be okay? I needed to know. I wanted to scream, rattle the bed rails.

Instead, I said, “I’m here for you. We’ll get through this together.”

“It’s very bad,” she said.

The fear again, but then I let the cold hand of logic hold me up. “We can handle everything that the Eibishter gives us. We are a family.

We’ll do this together.”

A noise from Chuna’s bed.

A weird breathing. A beep.

Two nurses appeared. Then another three doctors. Then five more. Chaya moved back, standing unobtrusively next to the window, mouthing words of Tehillim. I got closer, peering at his young, darkening face until a young doctor elbowed me out of the way and said, “Don’t you see he’s dying?”

How did such an accident happen?”

Was he going to die? Was he going to live? “Be here. Just be with us.”

The activity was becoming frantic. Two doctors, one with checked pants and pointy shoes peeking out from under his white coat, came in. The others stood back.

Even with a sword resting on your neck, don’t give up hope, I remembered. I spoke, quietly, to myself, unheard amid the hullabaloo.

“Hashem, let him live. Let him heal. Please, please make him live, make him healthy the way he was when You brought him down to this world.” It was true. Now that his neshamah was already with us, we did damage, and it wasn’t like being reborn again. It was harder to undo damage than to create something new. But not for Hashem. For the Ribbono shel Olam, everything is possible.

You may have noticed by now that my recipes tend to lean toward the simpler side. Not too many bowls, not too many flames, not too many dishes to wash… you get the idea. But when it comes to Yom Tov, especially Sukkos, I don’t usually follow those rules.

The three recipes featured this week are beautiful, elegant and delicious.

Even if you’re not usually a fish lover, you will enjoy making and serving (and presenting) these delicacies. They are not your run-of-the mill-typical fish dishes, and they do take a few more steps to prepare, but they really are well worth it.

Ask your fish store to give you the exact type of fish featured. (Some are skinned, some are cubed, etc.)

Otherwise, you can always turn to the handy plastic glove, sharp scissors and scented hand soap - and you’re good to go on your own.

Baked Salmon Skewers

Over Salad

Of all the fish plates I have ever served, this is the one that garners the best reviews!

It’s also extremely versatile for little children; you can just serve them the salad without the fish, or like my children, just serve them a bowl full of mandarin oranges!

Salmon:

4 slices salmon fillet, skinned and cubed Marinade: 1/3 cup maple syrup 2 tablespoons soy sauce 3 tablespoons mustard 3 tablespoons sesame oil 1 teaspoon pepper Salad: 1 bag romaine leaves or spinach leaves 1 red onion, thinly sliced 1 red or yellow pepper, cubed ½ cup craisins, optional 1 cup mandarin segments ¾ cup pine nuts Dressing: ¼ cup oil ¼ cup honey ¼ cup vinegar ¼ cup orange juice

1. Combine the marinade ingredients in a small bowl and marinate the salmon cubes for 3 to 4 hours.

Remove salmon cubes and discard marinade. Place cubes on a lined cookie sheet and bake on 500° for 12 to 14 minutes.

2. Divide the salad ingredients evenly among 4 appetizer plates. Place 4 to 5 cubes of salmon over each salad.

3. Combine dressing ingredients in a small jar and shake well.

Drizzle over each salad or serve in a pretty serving dish on the side.

Thinly Sliced Fish

Over Angel Hair Salad The angel hair salad makes tons more than you would need for the salmon plate. It happens to be a great side dish that you can use next to any chicken or meat dish, as well.

Fish:

4 slices salmon, skinned and each slice cut into 3 thin strips Marinade:

½ cup teriyaki sauce ¼ cup honey 2 cloves frozen crushed garlic Angel Hair Salad:

1 bag angel hair pasta, cooked and drained 1 bag shredded purple cabbage 1 bunch scallions, thinly sliced 2/3 cup oil ½ cup vinegar ½ cup sugar 2 teaspoons salt 1 teaspoon sugar Plate Garnishing:

1 bottle ceaser dressing Fresh parsley Sesame seeds

1. Combine marinade ingredients and salmon slices in a large bowl. Let marinate for 3 to 4 hours. Discard marinade and broil salmon on 2 minutes each side.

2. Combine cooked angel hair with purple cabbage and scallions. In a separate jar, combine oil, vinegar, sugar, salt and pepper. Shake well and pour over pasta.

3. To plate: Pile a mound of angel hair salad on one side of the plate and layer 2 or 3 thin slices of salmon alongside it. Pour a little bit of ceaser salad into a Ziploc bag and poke a hole in the corner. Shpritz the dressing over the fish and sprinkle with parsley and sesame seeds.

Festive Salmon

Over Eggplant

Fish

Breaded Eggplant:

Garnishing:

4 slices salmon fillet, skinned 1/3 cup flour

1 eggplant, peeled and sliced into long thin slices

2 puff pastry squares (the ones that come 10 in a pack)

2 teaspoons garlic powder

½ cup flour

1 egg, beaten

1/8 stick margarine

2 eggs

4 sprigs fresh dill

1 cup flavored bread crumbs

Chrain

1. Preheat the oven to 350°. Dip the eggplant slices

into flour, egg and then breadcrumbs. Lay onto a parchment paper lined cookie sheet that has been sprayed with cooking spray. Spray the eggplant slices liberally with cooking spray and bake for 30 minutes.

2. Meanwhile combine the 1/3 cup flour with the

garlic and salt in a bag. Dip each salmon fillet into the bag and coat in the flour mixture. Remove salmon and shake off excess flour; place on a lined cookie sheet. Cut thin slivers of the margarine and place 2 or 3 slivers over each fillet of fish.

Bake for 10 minutes. (You will bake it a little more later on.)

This fish takes the longest of all three, but it yields astonishingly beautiful results.

3. When the eggplant is done, place one salmon

fillet over each eggplant slice. Cut each pastry square in 2, so you have 4 rectangular pieces of pastry dough.

4. Take one piece of dough at a time and stretch it

over the center of one eggplant and salmon slice.

If you find that the dough is a little bit too short, roll it out with a rolling pin. Overlap the dough a little bit under the eggplant slice, so it won’t open while baking. Press one dill sprig firmly into the center of the pastry dough. Repeat with remaining slices. Brush with egg and place into the oven for an additional 15 to 20 minutes.

5. In a separate bowl combine the chrain and mayonnaise and served alongside the fish.

Maybe you are a young couple living in a temporary apartment with your “real silver� packed away in storage. Perhaps transitions in life have rendered you with a little less for now and you cannot afford a new table ensemble this season.

No matter. This should in no way dampen your enthusiasm for setting an exquisite Yom Tov table. You don’t need the fancy plates or silverware to set a striking table. Style speaks many languages. Let your table be one that speaks of elegance and of grace.

The beauty of setting a non-typical table is that there is no right or wrong way to do it. Here are some basic tips to guide you, and then let your creative mind take over.

Color: All colors agree in the dark…but in real life we need to keep colors working together.

The cue for creativity is color. Find inspiration for your color scheme all around you. The color you choose will set the tone, and will open your eyes to other pieces that are of the same palette, for example: table runners, napkins, and placemats. Once you have the main color, things will flow together rather smoothly from there.

Shortly after accepting the offer to do this writing, I stopped into the X-mas Tree Shop to see if any one item there would catch my eye and jumpstart this project.

Among the many seasonal items on the shelves I spotted paper mâché pears. I knew it when I saw it that this was going to be “the color.” The green was the perfect shade for this time of year. And something about the pear itself was very attractive. A fruit is a nice sukkah decoration, yet it’s also elegant enough to be set on the table. As soon as the pear was in the bag, so to speak, the complementary colors appeared almost magically. Hues of silver and gray beckoned from every aisle. The look came together with great ease.

Tip: To keep things from getting too busy, stick with one bright color and everything near to it should be solid and muted.

Objets: noun. an object of artistic worth or curiosity, especially a small object. Also, an object on display and worthy of display.

A good mix of pieces on the table creates personality.

Combine old with new, traditional and modern, and the results will be unexpected yet absolutely fabulous.

A good place to start looking is in your very own trove. A quick survey will yield many perfect pieces. The gift you got a long time ago that never made it out of the box may be the perfect bowl for the salad you’re serving this Yom Tov. Thrift stores are like real life treasure hunts. Useful items found in these stores include small dishes for dessert and interesting shaped boxes for paper napkins and extra cutlery on the set table. Wall mirrors make the prettiest serving trays. Amazing Savings has the largest selection of such mirrors. Both Amazing Savings and the X-mas Tree Shop have wall art that is beautiful and adds much color to tie the whole look together. Hang the art on the wall for Yom Tov and you might be tempted to leave it hanging all year.

Tablecloth and Napkins: A well-folded napkin says a lot about your style.

Especially this time of year, a velvet tablecloth adds a luxurious feel. This need not be an expensive purchase.

If you are handy with the needle, buying a few yards of inexpensive velvet will provide you with plenty of linen for a table of any size. For extra pizzazz, layer the velvet tablecloth over a silk, in a contrasting color. Another idea is to rent a few table coverings for Yom Tov. Simcha Depot has an amazing array of textured and plain tablecloths, and their service is impeccable.

You need a beautiful napkin. If you fold the napkin beautifully, it comes across as if you really know what you’re doing. That gives you more leeway in using less elegant dinnerware, as the napkin will be doing the talking. Napkins can be bought for less than a dollar a piece, but it’s important that the napkins get ironed and starched; it’s unattractive to see fold lines on table linen.

Centerpieces: When it is not enough to have only plates, glasses, and food…

The prettiest centerpieces can be had for absolutely nothing. Gather a few branches outdoors, some with leaves still attached. For a natural look, place the branches in a tall vase, as is, and fill with water. If you desire a more stylish decor, a few strokes of gold-leaf paint will add a rich sheen to rival those found on centerpieces sold for a bundle.

An aluminum bowl piled high with whole fruit, all in one color, is another interesting focal point for a well set table.

An alternative look is filling a glass vase with cold water and adding the fruit, piling one on top of the other. Citrus fruits such as oranges, lime, and lemon add lots of color, and look perfect with most color schemes. Try using vases of different heights, and adding one contrasting fruit to each vase. Into the floating tangerines, drop a green apple.

It’s not an original or new look, but it’s classy in its own way and perfect for the Sukkah.

Have a local lumber shop cut a piece of plywood to fit your need, i.e.: 4’ wide x 8’ long. Wrap the wood with a felt material. Place the wrapped plywood over your ex-

Now you have an expansive table, ready to set with your own personal touch.

Hillcrest Fabric is an inexpensive source of fabric for every such need.

Chair Covers: Take a seat Any dining chair can get a quick makeover. Collect cushions and small pillows that fit the seat of your chair. Purchase a few yards of fabric to coordinate with the cloths on the table. Tightly wrap

the cushions and use a staple gun to secure the fabric in the back. A poly-cotton blend fabric will appear silken, at a fraction of the cost of real silk chair cushions.

A more dramatic look is full chair coverings. Chair covers are available in many variations, and can be rented for $1-$2 a chair. The benefit of this more extravagant look is the way it transforms folding chairs into formal seating, and equalizes the appearance of various heights and shades when mixing and matching chairs at the Yom Tov table.

Seating Cards: A touch of glass Clear drinking glasses and goblets are sold in many dollar stores for next to nothing.

Buy them on the cheap, and have them etched with the guest’s name. Personalizing glass is an inexpensive and elegant way to add sparkle to any meal. These goblets can be stored and reused year after year… or sent home with your guest as a memento of your beautiful time together.

nonetheless: before Pesach last year a woman came by the photo store and ordered mugs for the Seder night, one for each grandchild. Each mug had a photo of a different child, which, she explained, would serve as a seating card for the night. How creative!

Children’s Table: Mini chic Use a small picnic table and drape it in burlap or other heavy cloth. Add playful extras to the table to keep children entertained and occupied, even if only for five minutes longer. Here is one unusual idea. Place small bowls near each child’s plate, and layer it with grapes, baby carrots, and apple slices. Very seasonal, with the apples and carrots – and it will be much appreciated by the children and their parents alike.

And the best portrayal of Apple’s personality is Steve Jobs, its brainchild, always dressed in very casual attire. IBM’s personality can be described as older, experienced, trustworthy, and consistent.

Even though they’re both leading tech companies, we can understand how they are very different. Their personalities aren’t merely outer impressions, but rather traits that are reflected in every aspect of the business; from the actual design of their product, down to their phone recordings.

Brand personalities are very complex and sometimes it takes time to actually develop them, but here is our list of 10 questions and reminders to help you create your unique set of brand traits.

Answer these 10 questions carefully. It would be wise to ask around and do some research, instead of relying on your assumptions.

Once you’ve answered these 10 questions. Choose which one of these five core personalities your brand falls under. After selecting one of the core five, think of six more traits that will best describe your personality and analyze whether it would it be a key to your brand. Once you have that, we can continue and explore the tools to best convey the personality of your brand.

Last week, we discussed home buyers. How much time it takes and just a “dusting” of the process of buying a home.

But, what about the sellers?

What should sellers do?

They are in the throes of making Yom Tov, their children are all home from school and Yeshiva and possibly the marrieds have moved in; how should they handle showing their home amidst the chaos of an active family life?

years ago when I sold my home and bought the home that I live in now. It was a very anxious and trying time.

So readers, if you are thinking about selling, waiting until after Yom Tov is probably a good idea. You should probably be speaking and choosing your realtor now. You should let them give you advice and guide you as to what you should

‫אתרוגי מאראקא‪:‬‬ ‫מאראקא איז א לאנד וואו‬ ‫עס וואקסן פיל אתרוגים‪,‬‬ ‫אויף די בערג‪ ,‬אין די‬ ‫וועלדער און איבעראל‪.‬‬ ‫אמאל האט מען געוויסט אז‬ ‫די דאזיגע אתרוגים זענען‬ ‫בחזקת כשרות און מען קען‬ ‫זיך דערויף פארלאזן אז עס‬ ‫איז כשר‪ .‬עס איז באקאנט‬ ‫אז דער בריסקער רב זצ"ל‬ ‫האט שטארק מחבב געווען‬ ‫די דאזיגע אתרוגים‪.‬‬ ‫אין די לעצטע צוואנציג יאר‪,‬‬ ‫האבן די גוים אנגעהויבן‬ ‫איינצוזען אז מען קען מאכן‬ ‫פיל ביזנעס דערפון‪ ,‬האבן זיי‬ ‫אנגעהויבן מרכיב צו זיין די‬ ‫אתרוגיא ם‪ ,‬כדאי עס זאל אויסקוקן שענער און בעסער‪ .‬פארשטייט זיך‬ ‫אז עס זענען נולד געווארן פיל שאלות אויף די אתרוגים און מענטשן‬ ‫האבן זיך אנגעהויבן אפצוהאלטן פון די דאזיגע אתרוגים‪ .‬עס איז באקאנט‬ ‫וואס הגה"ק מקלויזנבורג זצוק"ל האט געזאגט אויף די מאראקאנער‬ ‫אתרוגים‪ ,‬אז זיי זענען באנאנעס או נישט קיין אתרוגים‪.‬‬ ‫היינט צו טאגס זענען פאראן‬ ‫פרדסים אין מאראקא‪ ,‬מיט‬ ‫די הכשר פון התאחדות‬ ‫הרבנים‪ ,‬וועלכע זענען מעיד‬ ‫אויף די כשרות פון די‬ ‫דאזיגע פרדסים‪.‬‬

On each weekday, there’s a minimum learning requirement of 2 hours.

On Erev Shabbos, Erev Yom Tov, and also on Shabbos and Yom Tov, there’s a learning requirement of at least 1 hour.

‫ ערב יו"ט און אויך שבת און‬,‫ערב שבת‬ ‫ דארף מען לערנען לכה"פ איין‬,‫יו"ט‬ .‫שעה‬

On a day that one has not reached the learning goal, he has the opportunity to make it up on the following day; however, an additional 15 minutes of learning should be done. I.e. if on a regular weekday one has learned only 1.5 hours, on the next day he should learn that day’s requirement, plus 45 minutes, to make up the missing half hour, plus the extra 15 minutes.
