Chelsea recently won an online competition sponsored by the promotional website TopBlip.com that landed her a gig in Winston-Salem, N.C. opening for national rock and roll act Parachute. Now a sophomore at Pinewood Preparatory School, Chelsea started teaching herself to play guitar via YouTube when she was 13. During the summer of 2011 Chelsea was one of 50 students-of-all ages accepted into the Nashville Songwriter’s Association International Advanced Songwriter’s Camp. Thus far, she has written more than 20 songs. Although she is young, Chelsea stays busy, performing at a number of local venues including the Icehouse Restaurant, Single Smile Café, Firewater Grille and Madra Rua Irish Pub. One of the most interesting and unique performances of the day will undoubtedly come from the Joe Pye Elementary School African Drum and Dance Ensemble. This group,
now in its first year, has already made a splash in the area, turning in exciting performances for such events as the grand opening of the Boeing plant and the dedication of its namesake school. The group will perform from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday. Eddie Bush, a premiere talent long known around Summerville and the Lowcountry, rounds out the weekend with his soaring vocals, fiery guitar work, and deeply introspective songwriting. Bush has enjoyed a busy, successful career as a performer, as a writer, and as a teacher. He has performed in places most people only dream of with artists we usually only see in record stores and on television. He has recorded a large body of work and was signed to a major record label, Decca, in 2006. He has worked hard in a number of charitable efforts, most recently endowing a scholarship at the Charleston School of Law in memory of his brother, Alex Bush, a very popular and wellregarded student at the school who died in a tragic car accident in 2010. Provided Bush takes the stage from 1:30 – Chelsea Summers performs at 11:30 Saturday. 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
