Kinetics Dept. Thrills Intrams ‘16 RHEYGENN MARIE BERDIN
New set of mind-blowing games and fresh batch of titleholders will be expected and most welcomed as the Physical Education Department once again hosts the annual campus event on this year’s Intramural Meet on August 22-26. Intramural meet is an organized interschool sporting event not only for those athletes who belong to varsities but with those who have the “to-be discovered” potential to excel in various sports. Furthermore, intramural meet serves as a stress-relieving event to those students who deprived themselves from sleeping due to midterm week for it is not just composed of sports and games but also with nightly events that will showcase talents. This will be the second time that the P.E. Dept. will host the event as approved by the office of the Campus Director. Moreover, the Kinetics Dept. guaranteed that the organizers and committees involved in the event will execute the necessary organizational procedures for the success of the event. Aiming to scout new athletes to compete for the State College and Universities Athletics Association (SCUAA) and to harness the buried talents waiting to be discovered in the field of arts to compete in the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) Arts Competition are the main goals of the event. SCUAA is a regional sporting competition participated by athletes who excel in their field

of sports from the different varsities of state colleges and universities all over the Region 7. P.E Dept. officially announced to only have five units participate over the conquest as Unit VI, composed of the San Fernando and Naga Extension campuses, decided not to join this year’s sporting affair because they will attend other competition. Most of the sports as witnessed from the last Intramurals were expected to be accommodated only on the grounds of CTU-Main campus. Athletics, Badminton, Football and Swimming are to be conducted at the Cebu City Sports Complex. Basketball, as one of the highlights of the event however, will be started earlier before the actual date due to the conflicts of the gym reservation yet it is guaranteed to provide an amusement to this year’s Intramurals.

INTRAMURALS ISSUE Vol. 12 No. 2
Ready or Not, Here “I” come Lucky are those who have an active part in the event. But how about those who don’t have? How could they kill their time that seems to drag slowly when nothing is done? Intramurals is the time for athletes to rejoice. I mean the first thing you think when you hear the word “Intramurals” would be “Sports”. But let me ask you this, for more than fifteen thousand students enrolled in CTU, do you think all of those are athletes? No, not all are gifted enough to be sporty.
NEEDLE PRICKS SHEENA MARIE CONSUEGRA
The constant fear that it might happen again really fuels a slight apprehension, not only to me, but also to the students out there. FINALLY, THE week of “more” has come! No “more” classes, no “more” stress, and “more” fun and excitement! Wait a minute, “Fun” “Excitement”? I beg to differ.
and
For years, Intramural has been one of the biggest events every school has to organize. It’s a time to foster camaraderie among the students, to practically teach the value of sportsmanship, to discover new talents and to find out the best among the rest. Unfortunately, for most, intrams is the time to stay home and get the much needed sleep that is deprived from us during school days. Why? Let me describe it in the most cliché the world has to offer: “Boring”.
But just because we are bored doesn’t mean that we should better go home. No, I never meant that. We could at least watch various games and help boost the confidence of our fellow unit members by cheering. But what is there to cheer when nothing seems worth cheering in the first place? That’s when the importance of good program flow comes in, the application of appropriate activities that would cater athletes and non-athletes alike and the readiness of the organizers to be resourceful and wise enough to make lemonades when lemons arrive abundantly. Old students still talk about their experiences and it became a common knowledge on how the Intramural 2014 had been quite disappointing when the former Supreme Student Government officers facilitated it. The constant fear that it might happen again really fuels a slight apprehension, not only to me, but also to the students out there. I can’t blame them though. Trust, really, is hard to earn. However, the P.E department had worked its way through earning back some of the lost trust when they took in the reigns in last year’s intramurals. Though there were a few mishaps, like
the seemingly lack of nightly events, the Intramural 2015 had been generally a successful one, with so many good reasons to overcome the bad ones. Now, with the new set of SSG leaders, and the subsequent taste of success the P.E department had offered us last year, I can’t help but wonder for what’s up this time. What should we expect? We do hope we wouldn’t be bored this time. In a recent meeting with Dr. Rosalinda Racaza, the P.E department head, this year’s intramurals would be a deviation from the norm and for once, I am absolutely curious on how they would pull this one out. Since August is also a celebration of our Filipino heritage, a “Culture and Arts Festival” would then transpire side by side with our most awaited sports fest, for the first time in our school history, with the College of Arts and Science as the department head. I don’t doubt the organizers’ expertise in leading the event, but who knows what could happen? I’m not saying that this time, we should criticize every time the organizers got a wrong move. They’re to be respected because they’re our superiors after all. But hey, we do have a say in the matter. Intramurals is for the students, isn’t it? It’s supposed to be a time for “fun” and “excitement”, as well as a time for learning. So I guess opinions raised in a logical manner are to be appreciated. I guess this time; they’re hitting two birds with the same stone. But will they hit it, bull’s eye? That remains to be seen.

CTU Intramurals 2016: What to Check Out MARK JENIELLE BANDAS
We know we have been energydeprived lately because of the hectic schedule brought by burning our midnight candles and squaring off with our midterm examinations. But for now, it is time for us to refuel our energies as we face off another week of thrills, cheers, excitement and fun as we head to this year’s intramurals. Old and new students alike feel excited as they hear the word “intramurals”. As fun as it sounds, it never fails us to enjoy ourselves or with others with the sports and other events. So, what will we look out for this year? Let us begin with the traditions. First, we have to look at the dazzling athletes of different units as they proudly holler in the morning parade. After the parade, this is the
time to let your cheers shout up as they pit off against each other for the much coveted gold place. For the old students, it is a must-watch to see if the Unit V will retain their place as the overall champions or will Team Engineering reclaim its throne. Here is another thing for the supporters. The intramurals will take place at two places, namely the CTU-Main Campus and Cebu City Sports Complex (CCSC). Our school will host the ball games, taekwondo, arnis, dance sports and the Cultural Contest, while badminton, football, athletics and swimming events will be held at CCSC. For those who tend to bore themselves after watching various major sports events, there are much more things to check out. Included
in the list are the booths with various services to offer, the dance sports, which will make you sway with enjoyment as you spectate the dancers in their brilliant performance, the Exhibition Games between the CTU and CNU faculties, and lastly, the nightly events which will be as delightful as the day events. Now that we talked about the night events, then we will spill it out here. First thing to watch is the Cultural Competition. This event will be divided into sub-events such as speech contests, visual arts events, pop solo and vocal duet. The latter will be held alongside with the Mr. and Ms. CTU. So there we have it, we have our checklist of events as we look forward to the intramurals. But
there are some things we should not forget here. First, it would be the school rules. Yes, we may feel a bit loose but we should be aware that the school rules are still applied. Second, we should be respectful to the judges and referee’s decisions. Without them, games would be in great havoc. Though they may commit mistakes, it is part of the game. Lastly, observe sportsmanship. It is one of the core reasons why the intramurals was held in the first place. As we enjoy the upcoming week, never forget that we should still observe the true meaning of this major event in the school year. So, sit back, enjoy and celebrate with the intramural Meet 2016.
