UNIT I’s Villadolid II Jumps Victory RHEYGENN MARIE BERDIN

Another set of remarkable athletes whom they call themselves as Unit I once again proudly raises their flag as Daniel Villadolid II leaps high to achieve the first place in the Long Jump Men’s category at Cebu City Sports Center, Abellana. Daniel Villadolid II topped the highest jumpers, reaching the distance of 5.70 meters at the last round of the competition, followed

by a two-point close difference by Adrian Nellas of Unit IV with a distance of 5.64 meters and John Mark Dupal-ag of Unit III obtaining 5.5 meters as the third place. Villadolid made an epic record as he was also declared as the champion in the Visual Arts competition last August 22 and brought gold for the Unit I which proved his flexibility in arts and sports. Unlike the other players, being competitive was not one of Villadolid’s principles. “There’s nothing much, I just try to enjoy the game,” he said.

Every player in the game gave their best and showed utmost fearlessness as the field was not only exclusive for men, but also for women. Meanwhile, Maricar Rabago of Unit V won the first spot with the longest distance leaped in women’s division reaching 3.72 meters and also followed by Marilyn Marizon of Unit III in second place and Cara Pongasi of Unit IV in third place. Being mentally and physically brave are factors to become an effective athlete, but it would also be a real catch to have witnessed the enjoyment printed on every player’s determined faces.

Hard Hats Ball-out Through Semi-finals SHEENA MARIE CONSUEGRA

The icy game field of Kasadya Gym was thawed by the heated onslaught of the male players of Hard Hats to the Future Educators, as they repeatedly fed the basketball ring with their smoothly calculated shots through their cunning stunts last August 23. Scoring first, Unit IV already showed-off their dominance in the first half of the match, but, Unit 1 was fast to counterstrike with their definite three-pointers. However, the effort was in vain as Unit IV, with their rapid reflexes in claiming the ball, ended the half with 24-12, Team Engineering taking the lead. Team Educators counter-attacked in the 3rd quarter of the match, trying hard to win

back their lost in the previous half. But Team Engineering, with their determined streak to be the victor, was fast to dribble out the ball from the clutches of their opponent. Future Engineers earned their first foul in the 4th quarter, yet this did not stop them to throw Team Educators off-guard with their unstoppable steals and sure ball shots. After a series of back-to-back throws, steals, dribbles, and shots, Unit IV proved to be the inevitable victor as they ended the 4th quarter with the score of 53-33 taking the lead, thereby granting them passage to compete for the semi-finals on August 24.

INTRAMURALS ISSUE Vol. 12 No. 4

Falling in Love with Intrams GONE ARE those days of past years Intramural celebration. I can say that there are variations on how this annual festive was handled by the organizers from the nightly activities up to the booths. Likewise with my freshmen year and even today, I have always anticipated Intramural as a great event to commence. Especially it is the time to foster camaraderie among other students from various units and to somehow hone individual potentials towards sports.

CONVICTION ROBINSON IGOT JR.

Why should we compare the past with the present and expect more for this year’s celebration though we knew that this renowned activity of CTU is a dynamic one?

Change is the only constant thing in the world. We need to audaciously deal with reality that there are things that will not fall to the place as we wanted to let them to be. Why should we compare the past with the present and expect more for this year’s celebration though we knew that this renowned activity of CTU is a dynamic one? This best implies to the shift of Intramurals organizers. However, many of us lavishly flagellate their thoughts of complaints on why this event went unobtrusive and plain. I have heard students that they don’t want to attend Intramural because of the various factors: less booth, unorganized inconsistent programs, and eventually the comparison of the present and previous Intramural meets.

Which is which? Should we always look for the mistakes of the past and appreciate the present? This influences other students not to attend/participate for some segments within the celebration, and I don’t like it. It is like a bandwagon effect, where the decision of majority affects the decision of minority. We should be considerate and enjoy the moment of this stale festivity remembering that it is not just the event that will achieve our intramural goals but on how we indulge ourselves to the event itself. It can be achieved through oneself or achieved with much contentment with friends. The preeminent factor that we need to edict is to accept the flaws and imperfections we’ve contrived in the Intramural and fall in love with the happiness that this event will bring the medals garnered by respective units, the benevolence from the booths, and new-found memories from the various activities itself. In the end of this week long activity, rumors and influence from your classmates or friends will affect you the most. It will let you miss either the fun, memories or learning. As a student, this event .plays a significant role in your tertiary life for somehow completing the experience you gained for education.

Notwithstanding the fast alteration of weather, the Unit 1 (College of Education & Nursing) never losses their fervor to fight and raises their flag of triumph over Unit 4 (College of Engineering) in the Men’s Volleyball first elimination game. Captain Ball Khen Alfaro and the team’s setter Mel Vincent Salera of Unit 1 led the team in the first set as they gave their best spikes and service aces with their tough hands over Unit IV’s defense leading the scoreboard with two points, 29-27. But the fight did not end there, with all the teamwork and astonishing sets, the Future

Educators did not let their guard down as they unleashed astounding dives and powerul digs as to keep their team on top. With slight glimpse of victory, the leading team dominated the second set with prevailing spikes pushing the ball unto their opponents’ ground which finished the set with a score of 2512 leaving the Hard Hats in their defeat. Unit I’s coach, Prof. Floro D. Marturillas was beyond cheerful as his team won against Hard Hats. “I told them to cheer-up and not be discouraged. They were at first but their selfesteem boosted up and determined to win as they

Capt. Alforo said that the players did not expect to win because they were not that ready to play but with all their efforts and hard work, tiresome practices and hardships were paid off. Through teamwork and sacrifices, Future Educators proved that they can outwit any opponent they face. They will have their second match against the Hard Hats on August 24 in the elimination round of Men’s Volleyball match.
