Going through a very close fight, Unit IV smashes away Unit II in Badminton Championship men’s category with 2-1 win this morning at Cebu City Sports Complex. Both squads, known to be competitive and determined to win the second set, showed their beast mode in the game. The tension was in the air between the two teams. “There’s always a tension especially a battle between Engineering and Technology,” observed Unit IV’s coach, Engr. Rebecca Miraballes. As the game became exciting, an argument aroused when a student interfered saying it was a fault when Kerwin Borja unintentionally hit a player from Unit II when he gave an astounding smash. But the game just continued, dismissing the issue.

Unit IV won the do or die match as the Unit II made a net ball completing the set point of the Hard Hats and hailed as the Champions. Unit II grabbed the second place, while Unit III got the second place. “I felt a little pressured but the game was fun,” said Borja. Even his teammate, Hanny Ayle Nomar Panilag, was feeling pressured, too, even after they were hailed as champions. “It’s not new to us,” Coach Engr. Miraballes joked yet proud. “Bitaw dae, makita man gud nimo nga naningkamot gyud sila. Nagpractice biya gyud sila,” she added.

xquisite ambience and synergy of the students signify that Dance Sports is a presupposed event during Intramural. Adorned with glamour and sophistication, each pair of different units has shifted the CTU dance floor into a battle ground. Twelve pairs have battled for major titles for the two categories: modern standard which composes Waltz, Tango, Quick Step and the Latin category that comprises Cha Cha Cha, Rumba, Jive. All of contestants entrenched a splendid show as they glossed their enthusiastic performances that blown up the crowd. Their showmanship has successfully made the night even more enticing. From the premier categories, there are six pairs that have showcased their skills along the superficial criterion of the judges. They all have conveyed an eloquent body rhythm and smooth style for the waltz that tend the audience hail for avidness. Furthermore, the elegance and poise glide on every step they have scathed on the floor made the show even more incisive. With the coalescence of various beats and heart pounding music, the contestants have contemporized the tango. The sequential running, jumping and

slide stepping portrayed the quick step that concluded the modern standard category. Another faction of pairs for the Latin category has startled the crowd. Weaved with amazing costumes, each contestant radiated firmness over the enthusiastic maneuvers intended for the cha cha cha, rumba and the jive. The intensity reached another level because it created more delight to the audience and even to the judges. This paved way to make the contention more difficult for the judges due to the quality of the performance and enthusiasm of the contestants knowing that all of them deserved recognition. After all, the judges needed to adjudicate the pair who excelled in the set criteria especially on how they let the people empathize their dances. In the modern standard category, number 106 (Unit IV), number 107 (Unit I) and number 109 (Unit IV) were chosen as top 3. Moreover, the top 3 for Latin category were number 201 (Unit V), number 204 (Unit I) and number 205 (Unit II). For the last stretch, the utmost pairs in distinctive categories have clashed and the pair who consistently maintained the enthusiasm

reigned the title. During the Derby, all of them conveyed a perfection of steps from the gliding to tilting as they continued to amuse the CTUnians. Yet, among the remaining pairs, the judges needed to decide the exquisite among the rest. The drum keeps on rolling as the officials promptly announced the winners. Champions were Jhannel Mae Antolijao and Janssen Vic Sampiano from Unit IV, the 1st runner-up was from Unit I Malvin Jamali and Therese Leen Camoy and the 2nd runner-up was still from unit IV Kayla May Barrientos and Ivan Kay Cuyag. For the Latin category, the champion came from Unit V Tesalonika Bactol and Rafael Delada, the 2nd runner-up was awarded to Rizza Joy Malingin and Carl Jayson Baran from Unit I, and Mary Rose Macasero and Nelson Sanchez of Unit II were announced as 3rd runner-up. Under the flashing glow of the light as they glide with the symphony of rhythm, the contestants were like butterflies. They changed one place to another as they portrayed beauty and elegance on their performances. Indeed, the life of a butterfly never ends there for it will keep on moving forward and look for another flower (event) to flourish.
