Stop losing your post and start using it. Facebook is fantastic but you can get lost in the moment as posts move to lower positions. We aim to give you a working tool. Networking is not for the faint-hearted, it’s something regarded as an art form with polished and often rehearsed introductions. One of the problems that I faced with launching a new brand was that online chat boxes moved the position of my post into obscurity. Although organisers have addressed this issue with an option to print, it was at least to me a sea of information that very often didn't do justice to the amount of time invested. That said, there is a definite value to attending these meetings with the end goal to meet other likeminded people who could prove beneficial to your business. I always wanted to infiltrate untouchable groups, female groups come to mind believing that business shouldn't have any boundaries irrespective of race, sex or otherwise. WHEN WORDS FAIL, MUSIC SPEAKS. An interview with Tyrone Hinds, an Artist Manager who has worked with iconic artists. A professional with an unquestionable work ethic and want and need to help people. He talks about his past, present and future in the music business.

By Sanj Saigal Introductions It was an introduction from a friend back in 2001 (Vino Joseph) that kick-started his career with up and coming names; DMX & Mobb Deep who were iconic brands at the then Stratford Rex Club. I was curious about his need to get involved with the promotional side of the business. It soon became apparent that his involvement with Ms. Dynamite was the main catalyst.

Chance Meeting They say that fate plays a part in everyone’s life and a chance meeting at a coffee shop in London was certainly a day that I will never forget. I've known Tyrone for about two years, personally and professionally, you are left feeling that you always need to know more. I managed to catch up with him and got to know a little bit more about how he started in an industry we often take for granted.

Inspiration A mother’s passion for music and house parties was possibly the main reason, I sat back in my chair as his voice tones created authenticity in his words and there was a sense that he genially enjoyed taking a trip down memory lane with me.

He often mentions his desire to be someone who is regarded as a mentor and that is something that resonates with his personality traits. Sympathetic voice tones almost want you to stop talking and just listen. His presence and persona still etched in my mind as I fondly recall the time we spent together at a chance meeting with another of his artists; Chyna Soulstar.

After nine months of touring with her nationally in what could only be described as a true push to establish a brand name, Ms. Dynamite was signed to Polydor/ Universal and management were expected to follow. This was a career-defining event and an opportunity that Tyrone was truly grateful for.

Since the underground scene was being recognised as a formidable force in getting artists known outside the traditional arena, I asked for a definition to define the expression; "White Label" and it's significance to underground music for the audience and he was only too happy to patiently define it for me. “A white label record is not released via a record label” (a reference was made to Vinyl record formats).

Everyone’s a producer/ promoter or at least involved in some way since technology has turned bedrooms into makeshift studios. Making music is in reach for anyone who has a passion to produce.

If you looked at a record and it had a no text display, it was most probably produced mainly for the underground scene but could still hit the sales numbers required to make it a hit. Underground Tyrone never underestimated the power of records produced this way, he developed something of a following from DJ’s and magazines. Bubbling I already had a picture in my mind of the old days since he and I share the same age but how did it measure up? He paused and took a long breath so I knew he had a lot to say and that it was a fond memory and one that he wanted to share. Philip Murphy has been a PGA pro since 1982. Lynne Sweeney qualified in 1996 as the Titleist Trainee of the year for GB and Ireland. The Murphy Sweeney golf school was formed in 1996 when Philip and Lynne teamed up. The Irish Ladies Golf Union employed MSGS as National Junior coaches from 1996 to 1999. Since 2008 MSGS is based in Midlands Ireland teaching at 5 clubs. We teach people of all ages, but Our passion is with Junior Golf and we have had great success with Juniors in all of these clubs. We discovered the Stadium Concept Online. Spotted a few YouTube videos and liked what we saw immediately. The Stadium Concept philosophy is something we have always believed in; Make Golf Fun, make

We have always included games and fun and energy in our classes and camps but The Stadium Concept fuses it together in a package that is complete and professional and based on scientific research. We have been using it for 2 months now at Mount Temple Golf Club in Co. Westmeath. It's been a huge success. We love using it. Kids and parents are loving it too. It has so much potential. Our plan is to get adults using this system for Winter

training. Also, we want to start doing corporate days using; "the Stadium Concept". It takes a little bit of getting used to but we find it fantastic now. We have all our student profiles, levels, testing, training etc at the push of a button. Training sessions are so easy to set up and customise. We have hundreds of exercises to choose from and videos to show pupils. We can time kids on the track and get rankings easily. It's really cool and fun to use. We are excited to be part of the Stadium Family. We can’t wait to see it grow all over the world,

Listening skills Tom started out in his sector just under twenty years ago. He would be the first to admit that back then there were fewer rogue traders who gave rise to the phrase; “you get what you pay for”. Passionate about delivering the right service at the right price and within a defined time, he is something of a rarity these days.

Football Meets Technology The CEO who took Córdoba FC into the Spanish 1st division. Power & Glory Cool, calm and collective is the only way to describe Javier. I do not doubt in my mind that those traits had something to do with his appointment at Cordoba Football Club. Football runs through his veins, that passion for the sport is more than evident if you get to meet him. I was intrigued about his rise to fame in such a competitive industry. Was he expected to be on top of his game without compromise all the time? Back in the day, Javier started in the Spanish military a compulsory one year service at that time, I believe that it provided him with the discipline and attention for detail that his club enjoyed over a six-year reign. As our Skype call began, we exchanged pleasantries, in the knowledge that he had been interviewed a thousand times by international press, it was a high bar to jump. I remained composed. I think that the origin of professional career has a significant bearing on the type of person you are, thinking that would be the best place to start.

One thing led to another, I became the CEO and Vice President. I was always his righthand man. It was far from easy; the first task at hand was to understand how the business worked in terms of media, politics and press.

What was it like to Manage a Football club? It was a very different experience for me, so many things that were out of your control; there was a dependency on the success of others to enjoy success yourself. Cordoba Football club got promoted to the first division after 42 years. I felt amazing when the whistle blew against Las Palmas, standing beside myself in shock and awe. Having dreamt about that moment, I had reached the very pinnacle of my career. I had become emotionally attached to my team's success. "When Spain won the European cup in 2008 in Vienna; I watched the match in Marbella, we won one-nil, it was fantastic".

How did your career in Football begin? My whole family were season ticket holders for Atlético Madrid, as a child, I have treasured memories watching games at the stand. It was something of a family activity with three generations of a family along with extended members being captivated by a sport that formed a bond between us all. In those days matches were every Sunday at 5 pm and in the old Stadium, not the new one. I identified with; Luis Aragonés, he was my favourite player at Atlético Madrid who then

How did you relax in such a stressful job? I felt strange asking someone who had the persona of being so laid back that question. It was a question I wanted to ask since it was a pressurised environment. I went to the gym, lost weight and tried to eat healthier. The main problem was that as one match ended, you thought about the next one within such a short space of time.

In a position where others depended upon my confidence to lead in a very hands-on way, there was no time to be anxious. You needed to front confidence and remain calm.

What advice would you give young talent today? You have to be the best, stay focused on your dream, maintain a high level of fitness and learn new skills too. Learning how to be multi-talented and adaptable to a coaches system should also be a consideration. He reiterated that attitude is a factor that you shouldn't overlook. There is an element of; it's not what you know but who you know, social media can play a part in this. It has always been and will continue to be a well-respected sport, behave well and be considerate to others.

What is life like after Football? I stood corrected as Javier referred to the fact that his bond with the Football industry was far

from detached. On the contrary, there was an invisible link that was still very much connected.

I was curious to know more about his new project in Mexico. A company with Spanish roots.

I returned to the IT company, previously owned by my Boss. I work remotely at present while the situation with COVID is still present, with the intent of flying back and forth to Mexico in the new year.

I now run the commercial wing of Teknei; a company that specialises in Blockchain technology, Artificial Intelligence, Enterprise content management and Cybersecurity.

I could sense an equal level of excitement in his voice as he seemed forthcoming with information. I was curious about how these types of technologies were a common denominator in the Football world.

Javier explained that the season ticketing system and its relationship to QR codes would allow access into Stadiums. Applications like these are currently used in the Aviation sector with boarding passes and admissions into restricted areas such as VIP lounges.

Biometrics are fused with this concept to take the theory one stage further. With the way in which COVID has affected so many sectors, especially those

that rely on sheer visitor numbers, tracking and this type of feature is more important than ever.

Who is your target audience? I’m looking for managing directors and CEO’s of football clubs to take note and interest in this type of technology. I’m also working on a platform that works with blockchain technology, its function based on investment generation.

Investment into Football clubs has always been very challenging at all levels. The development of an investment platform will enable everyone to get a slice of the pie.

Banks provide fewer returns so an idea like this may appeal to the mass. It effectively means that we have created a digital asset.

Clients purchase tokens and their investment can grow, everything is protected and regulated by the relevant bodies so it falls in line with legislation and codes of conduct.

The deadline is approaching, which is the 15th of November this year.


How are you still maintaining your connection within the football industry? I still watch games, I’m respected in the industry and my calls remain values, I made a positive footprint in the industry. I make a real effort to maintain lines of communication with my connections.

How do you think football will change in the future? The new now as people are calling it, has impacted the world of football at every level. The foundation of this sport is built on atmosphere, ambience and a feeling of connection. It's not a question of if things will return to normal but more a question of when.

How do you get inspired?

I think you have to be born creative, you just can’t become it. Lisa Webb definitely was, today you will find her in Westminster working with business leaders across diverse industries.

Clients have a story to tell and they live for that story. Telling that story in a certain way makes all the difference to a business model.

Some of the High Street retailers that we use on a daily basis whether online or physical have had some connection to her business. With a mouth-watering portfolio to include law firms, hairdressers, property developers and magicians.

Story Telling That phrase has done its rounds within the Design Sector but it’s so true says Lisa who believes that professional branding has a bearing on business growth. In high demand, most if not all of her work is done remotely which I think has become the new norm with COVID -19 fuelling the need to stay at a safe distance.

A huge smile filled the screen and it was that smile that helped to tell her story. Lisa prides herself on human interaction, she has a true need to listen to a client’s wish list and produce different ways of telling the same message, providing choice. One thing that struck me was her confidence, it gave me the impression that she was so used to doing business on conference call software.

How do you find clients? I have always lived by the code; “ you are only as good as your last design”. I create to give clients a reason to refer me or return. There is a good argument to suggest that this combined with delivering a service that suits different budgets and timescales will always make good business sense.

What’s your core market? Honestly I enjoy working in a diverse market so there is no one size fits all approach, I will work with any sector. Over the last few years I have specialised in women start ups and that’s not to discriminate against men in anyway, it’s just something that happened.

How has your market changed? My market hasn’t changed, jut the way in which business is done. Everyone has made changes and my business model is no exception. I started my business just over twenty years ago and embracing technology has been the most notable change.

Space, the final frontier An interview with Holly Farmer from Huddle, the iconic workspace provider in the heart of London.

Work Ethic A lack of concentration, a need for human interaction and noncreativity are just some of the factors that can influence productivity. Although some have become accustomed to the; work from home ideology, can sleeping, working, socialising and relaxing be encompassed into one environment?

I managed to speak to Holly Farmer, the Community Relationship Manager for; Huddle. A breath of fresh, air is the only way to describe someone who I believe can make a difference to any business model.

Huddle, a brand that offers; private offices, coworking, virtual offices, meeting rooms and custom workspaces. What separates this brand from others in their sector is the want and need to provide a very high level of service. There is a focus on a very human side of a business; something that is lacking with the COVID 19 situation.

Holly explained that her team provide a dose of normality; I was

intrigued to find out more. Facilitating a reason to be productive in a workspace which offers safety and flexibility can impact efficiency. Home distractions impair creativity, conference call technology has taken away that personal interaction that was once important.

Safety Huddle installed handsfree sanitisers, foot openers for doors, sticker placement to indicate which direction to walk once inside the building. All common areas limit the number of people at any one time. All guests must have their temperature taken as a precaution, which I feel is very important to protect any workspace. These are nonnegotiable standards and contribute to the ambience of working away from home.

The trend towards a start-up culture has conflicted with the more traditional model of; long office hours. For many, this is still highly desired, with a growing minority favouring flexibility and adaptability in direct contrast to employment. I think its safe to say that the expansion and contraction of a workspace are more in line with the new now and is the main feature for business in 2020.

Drawn towards their on-demand space offering; for that one crucial meeting complimented by; mail collection, a phone answering service and a mail forwarding service are far from the trappings of working from home.

Bright and colourful decor sits well with playing towards the feel-good factor, very often overlooked but considered essential for productivity and efficiency.

As our conversation drew to a close, I couldn't help but think that business networking groups could only benefit from this type of service provider.

Changing a mindset A conversation with Sidney Simpson the founder of SOS procurement.

The Journey Seldomly do you meet someone so passionate about what they do for a living as Sidney Simpson. I wanted to know more about the man behind the business.

How did you get into this industry? I got into the building sector by default, being in the locks and fittings sector. Softly spoken but very confident, explaining that at that time, the goal was to secure a job with Banham Locks. You almost got the feeling that if time had stood still, he would still be there today. He was a little apprehensive to provide me with the name of his next employer; Knobs and

Knockers. He laughed first, had he not, I think that I would have found myself on YouTube. Based on the ironmongery trade he spent several years, progressing to a managerial position.

The ’90s brought with it a recession which had a devastating effect, a period of reflection and one that would force him to leave the comfort of a set profession and cause him to enter the world of sales.

Having a stammer in those days was considered a disadvantage to most, certainly at that time. A love of music provided an escape route for him as he slowly but surely overcame this and even forged a career as a music talent promoter.

Merchant, he later became part of the frontline sales force. They considered his attitude to be an attribute that would help to achieve targets.

He moved on from Jewson to Buildbase, where he spent several years in a managerial position, whilst there he was headhunted by one of his large account customer's with a turnover of 12 million to form a new construction buying dept. With his merchant experience and knowledge, he was able to implement strategies that would save the company £’s thousands of pounds and in doing so increased their bottom line. It was after this stint that he plucked up the courage to open his own business, realising that he was now equipped with the knowledge to develop a customer base of his own.

Sidney's business model is now four years old, the journey as an underdog needed to be told as it defines a work ethic that continues today. He wasted no time in telling me that he was proud to own his company.


How did you come up with your company name? I wanted a name and logo that facilitated a call to action, the origins of which came from Sailors in SCAN ME distress. I thought about how l could provide buying solutions for contractors/ developers and design & build architects that would allow them to grow without the need to employ additional staffing.

What's Your Claim To Fame? During that period of reflection in the ’90s and before embarking on his merchanting career Sidney was offered an opportunity to set up a wood flooring business, he trained and was guided by an existing business who supported Ikea, he was then able to achieve his own Ikea and John Lewis installation contracts. Whilst building his team he was approached by a producer of Carol Vorderman ‘Better Homes’ programme on ITV having installed a floor at his home and was invited to take part in an episode which was televised.

PICTURED IT DIFFERENTLY: Creativity In The Time Of COVID. By Joey Mills

COVID-19 has impacted us all in different ways, but perhaps the most dramatically affected have been those termed ‘extremely vulnerable’ by the government. In occupational terms, some of the hardest hit have been VIDEO freelance creatives, shorn of the security of concrete employment. I spoke to Alanah Mills, who has faced life in this most turbulent of years as part of both categories. She is a freelance fashion photographer, as well as someone who has had to isolate for months due to underlying health conditions. Alanah opened up about the realities facing freelance creatives during this precarious era, as well as her own struggles in an extended lockdown due to her extremely vulnerable status.

How has the COVID-19 pandemic affected your work?

Due to various health conditions I’m extremely vulnerable so initially wasn’t initially able to leave the house from the end of March. This meant I wasn’t able to do any shoots for a number of months. I had gone freelance only a few months before the pandemic and then had to turn down a lot of bookings and potential new clients. With life slowly returning so a sense of normality, it has felt like starting all over again. I’m lucky as I have my own studio in Manchester City Centre so have been able to return at my own pace, as lockdown has eased.

Do you feel that the events of Covid-19 will leave a lasting effect on the photography industry? Definitely! Some people have been unlucky enough to lose their jobs because of this pandemic and many businesses have closed because of it. In particular it’s such a shame for small independent businesses who haven’t had adequate support.


What advice would you give to creatives who have been affected by the pandemic? Keep creating, I’ve been doing a lot of test shoots alongside my paid work. It’s a great outlet for my creativity as I feel I can plan these more and tailor them more to my own tastes. It’s important to do work which makes you feel proud, and even if your freelance commissions have slowed down due to the pandemic, it’s important to get out there and create. You need to keep creating because if you leave that, your mental health will struggle because that’s who you are.

Did you take on any creative endeavours while you were isolating?

Would you say that the fashion world has been influenced by global events such as the Black Lives Matter movement? I feel that in some ways yes it is but I still feel more needs to be done. I have absolutely loved the efforts from businesses such as Pretty Little Thing, who did a great Pride campaign. It’s been great to see ASOS and H&M get involved in the Black Lives Matter movement. Things have changed for the better within fashion in recent years, there is a larger range of models of different ethnicities, shapes and sizes. However I still feel more must be done, and there is a large amount of room for improvement.

I focused on showing how the pandemic was affecting me through my images. I got back into doing self-portraits, something I haven’t done since I first started as a photographer. I feel I’ve grown a lot since then, and now my images have more meaning than they did then.

Where do you find your inspiration for photoshoots? I am an extremely creative person who has crazy ideas usually in the middle of the night. I absolutely love Pinterest for help with ideas, but I still think magazines do fashion best- I love Vogue and Dazed. It’s important to have a vision in your head on what it is you’re looking to achieve from a shoot, such as colour schemes and outfits you would like to use.

What are your hopes for the next 12 months of your career? I just hope that things get back to normal. I hope to be shooting regularly, and that the world isn’t as scary a place as it has been in 2020.

Award-winning contribution music and a passion for nurturing talent, I was fortunate to catch up with Robert Emery. I was intrigued by the impact he has on the classical music industry and his story.

Credentials aside, I wanted to find out more about the man behind the music, his interpretation of how his industry had changed and how he has focused his attention on helping others.

As an orchestrator or conductor, Robert has worked heavily in Europe, including the world premiers of Der Besuch Der Alten Dame, Dallebach Kari & Gotthelf. He is also a specialist in fusing rock bands with orchestras, & was the creative force behind The Lovebugs/Basel Symphony Orchestra & Seven/21st Century Orchestra; all in Switzerland. He is the conductor of the worldwide production of 'Ben Hur', composed & performed by the Police drummer, Stewart Copeland. Do you think that you are born talented, or it’s something that you nurture with time?

I think there is an element of both; he paused to consider his response and proceeded to reinforce his message by repeating his answer. I believe that in my case, there was an element of something natural with a piano; it was a perfect fit.

I could personally relate to this as his response has been similar to other talented people whom I have met along my journey. They have often referred to something that finds the person rather than the person trying to find it. Primary school inspired him; personally, a magical era where music teachers were an inspirational source; evident that Robert was reminiscing when he told me that


he was encouraged to play at the school assembly and when pushed, excelled quickly. He talks about the duvet of music, a quirky self-invented expression that he referenced to when talking about finding inspiration as the years progressed.

If I could get a snapshot of your industry today, how does it compare to last year?

If you could turn back time, what would you have done if you were choosing an alternative career? I would have been an actor, up to the age of fourteen I was, but my parents explained to me that I needed to focus on either acting or music, so I had to choose between the two.

How have you personally adapted to change?

He told me that he had bookings until the end of 2021, with hundreds of concerts cancelled. I refused to sit back, so in March, I created a blog realising that musicians couldn't earn money the same way. My calling is to support musicians, 33% of musicians have given up, and 30% are thinking of giving up. Asking what the difference was between instruments, Robert's 4-year-old son was the driving force behind his inspiration. Creating a platform (the most significant resource for musicians, with content from experts) I wanted to provide access to industry experts providing inspiration and helping young musicians, they can generate an income stream from them. I felt people who place others before themselves in terms of wants and needs are inspiring, but there is a difference to those who take action. Robert's were honourable, given the current situation. I sensed a genuine calling to help and a concept sold to me as producing a credible alternative for musicians who are seeking solace in mentors.
